NBA 2K14 News Post

2K Sports released their Next-Gen NBA 2K14 trailer during the Sony E3 2013 Press Conference this evening.

The 'NBA 2K14 – Next Gen Reveal' segment featured NBA 2K14 cover athlete LeBron James discussing life as "Video Game James" with a digital version of himself, while showing off some of his on the court moves in NBA 2K14. All of the footage was NOT pre-rendered and shown from a pre-alpha PS4 build.

I'm more impressed with Kobe's face. Looks pretty spot on. The skin texture looks real too. Lebron's model looks really sleepy though. I think they need to open his eyes up a little more.

... thus, in his defense, not when compared to these two ...

Really hope that 2K14 can have mouth guards for players like LeBron especially for next-gen.

Anxious to see improvements to The A.I

I think some people don't seem to understand that the footage that was shown was pre-alpha, it isn't the final product. For a pre-alpha the graphics are amazing for a pre-alpha, I personally thought the facial expression were really good. I mean the only game this gen I can think of that had spot on facial expressions is LA noire, and the fact that 2k got really close to that imo is crazy.

And, a variation for Haslem and Jameer Nelson who constantly chew and grind on them all game! Joking aside, mouth guards would be a cool addition. As long as they don't gave the 2k logo all over them. Plain colors would suffice.

Oops, didn't see your post. Just a bit Photoshop.

By the way, 2K really over-did his beard (when he's talking to the camera). Looks like a werewolf.

Spoiler

More so something that can be toned for basketball and not a full contact sport like football. NaturalMotion would probably be the most well known 3rd party engine they could likely license. A physics engine that can aid with foot planting, animation blending, contact in the interior, clipping and mid-air "collisions." Finally ridding the game of all warping (ball and player) would also be huge, IMO.

Agree that Lebron's expressions were overdone and look a little creepy as a result.

Also that bad rotation by the guy shooting in the back looks bad and makes me think we don't have real foot planting yet (if ever).

Looks pretty spot on if you ask me, not sure I get where everyone has the problem with it. I do hope they can integrate mouthpieces this year. Remember that was just pre-alpha, still 4 months until release. It looks fantastic for this time of year!

Actually talking more about his lip sync part. His mouth is also a tad too big in that expression and it's not helped that you can't see his gums or tongue. It can be improved a little.

but is it enough? not for me anymore i dont wanna watch a video game i wanna play, and to be honest i haven't played an nba 2k basketball game for a while now,it feels scripted and the control is disastrous to the point i dont feel like am in control

the response time between controller input and reaction on screens is frustrating most of the times as in many situations where the passer and the receiver is very close but to get both animations to line up the passer hesitates or a longer drawn out animation plays out to compensate for time needed for animations to line up.

defense in the paint is non existent and ice sliding around is rampant and unrealistic.online has never been a reliable feature and is feasted with players willing enough to take advantage of broken game play mechanics

i don't play association or my player but this game is more tailored for u guys who plays alone against the CPU..but for a guy like me that plays human opponents this game doesn't work as good on that front...too many AI assistance and it feels like constant intervention by the AI as if it is trying to regulate games to seem competitive even when both players aren't even close in skills and 2k know how

now don't get me wrong am just being critical about this cause i love 2k for all the hard work VC it puts in year after year and this video gets me hyped up as any one of u guys around here, but am just worried that with all that visual improvements and obvious smoother animations that we will end up with a game that is plagued by hiccups and frustrations as it has for me based in history for the last few IP
2k is tailored for Association?? They have barely touched association in the last 5 years. I would say its been one of the most neglected aspects of the game. Btw it shouldn't be, because many of it's issues are relatively easy to fix.

noticed I said more tailored ....what I mean by that was the game is better off in player vs CPU mode....so guys that plays those modes won't be bombarded with all the hiccups a guy like me would have playing against human opponents.

when am playing against my come over friends the weakest player can compete against my all out effort by just using the heats with his beginner skills....not only am I playing against him but am also playing against the AI,that is compensating for his lack of skills and be getting 80% of his defensive work done for him.....it's not a true reflection of player vs player outcome...

IMHO to me the more I try to play passing lanes and get my hands on the ball the easier it is for my opponent to score....the tip balls and so called loose balls are not really loose at all. they just end up rolling in the direction of another one of his teammates that causes me to end up in bad defensive position and most of the times i get scored on

like I said before I don't want to watch a basketball video game, I want to play it....it feels scripted to me and I prefer the program team over art team right now more than any ....we all know most games in dev spends more budget on art.....again am hyped about what the art team is doing...but I prefer to see what the programming team has brought to next gen when that time comes

Oh i see what your saying, yeah i agree their are some definite human vs human flaws that need to be fixed.

Graphics look outstanding. Ray Allen and Kobe looked almost photo realistic at first. With that being said however, they need to fix those small gameplay issues that you pointed out, and finally pay some attention to association. They do all of this, and 2k14 will be great.
