I absolutely LOVED ASB2005. Before the Show('08 ...maybe even '09) it was my favorite baseball game.
Adding in Steve Lyons is tremendous.
I know guys are hating on the commentary and I can see it to some point. But hearing Lyons is not only giving me some flashbacks...but it's refreshing.
Really nice job by Lyons.
Like others have stated....hit variety. Noticeable right off the bat(pun!).
We saw it at CD.....and it's one of the reasons I tried to tell guys to play the game(rather than watching the videos) to come to a conclusion about how much was done.
So far...smooth as butter for me. But I know guys have reported otherwise and I hope that is rectified.
Has anyone other Manage only Mode guys tried it out in game yet?
What's your thoughts on it.
I love the new pace(by changing the countdown)...and the new dugout cam is fantastic.
I am bummed about one thing....that I didn't notice at CD and am praying can be worked in somehow....postseason mode DOES NOT have the ability to manage the game. It's either PLAY or SIM.
That's a heartbreaker for me right now. Damn...how did I miss that?
I haven't dug into the franchise yet....but that's next after some heavy duty roster editing!

I've played around with MoM. It's great fun with the new overlays and new view. One big graphical mistake is that on the main right corner display before the countdown ALL upcoming batters are listed as left handed hitters. It could be Matt Kemp or Andrew McCutchen due up and the display will tell you they are left handed. Oops.
One other thing that's probably not specific to MoM is the cpu manager still leaving in starters way too long. I managed the 2nd game of the season for the Rays and the Orioles were killing me. They left Chen in for 8 innings and 154 pitches. Ugh. I was hoping that was fixed this year.
- Sliders are definitely needed, it seems as if pitching is a bit easier on AS (Pure Analog), and that the CPU pitchers are throwing too many strikes. Also, arm strength needs to be decreased a bit.
- Fun to play so far, I'm one of those that had to slow the pitch speed all the way down in past years, this year it's pretty solid at the default setting. I can actually pull balls now.
- Franchise changes look really solid so far, I've done a couple of sims through and most of the trade logic seemed good. I'm also doing single team franchise since I'm doing quick sims, and most of the lineup logic looks good too.
- Really happy about the budget situation, I've complained about this for quite awhile that basically all of the teams have too much money. I've simmed through the first offseason a couple of times just to see any variances, and as the Braves, the financial decisions seem to be right in line with real life. I have to actually think about who to offer arbitration, who to sign long term, etc. Nice job SCEA!
I gotta either move myself up a level, or completely change batting sliders. Pitching and stuff is fine in terms of amount of runs/hits I've been allowing in past couple of games.
Cubs: 11 runs,19 hits
Pirates: 2 runs,9 hits
Cubs struck out 3 times
Pirates struck out 8 times
Cubs with 1HR
Pirates with 1HR
Soriano: 3-5,4RBI,HR
81% of my pitches were strikes
77% of CPU pitches were strikes(to be fair,I chased about 2 dozen low ball pitches,so that number should probably be like 60% if I had right camera angle)
I moved my pitcher consistency slider down 1 and CPU strike frequency down 2, so seems like amount of balls CPU throws is good if you move it 2 left from default settings.
I haven't touched any other slider and the game has been great so far. Like I said, my hitting is abit too good lol(ironic since I got rid of guess pitch, which means I was expecting to be worse), so might have to adjust that slider or increase hitting difficulty.
I've been a fan of the series for a long time now (I bought my PS3 when The Show moved to it), but I have to say, this year's game is one of my favorite releases. I've had a ton of fun over the past four hours. It's killing me that I have to stop so that I can get some sleep for work tomorrow.
I see they fixed the extra base bug on the errant pickoff at first base. No longer does the runner get third.
Not necessarily, If the pitcher does a jump move and throws to first its one base, if he steps behind the mound and then throws to first it is supposed to be 2 bases. I haven't had a chance to see the results of errant throws on each move but just wanted to clarify
The game is fun. A lot of minor additions really take it along, it's not that much different from last year, but that's because it's consistently a great franchise. But I have a couple complaints about online/Diamond Dynasty, they were clearly not ready with their online servers at all, even though they said they were waiting til the last minute to fix everything.
Honestly, I think this is a game you should wait til the OSFM rosters are out and then buy. Currently, I don't really want to start a franchise or RTTS without the rosters, and the only other mode I'd put a lot of time into, DD, is still really weird with the servers being all wonky. My team sucks, as I'd expect it would after one game, but I can't improve them at all because every time I try and sell one of the cards I started off with, it gives me an error. I activated a pretty solid card I got from the beginning and created the whole character, but I got an error after making him.
A minor gripe here... they need to let unlock height and handedness for the custom guys. I understand they don't want everyone to have a staff full of 6'8 lefties, but they've got to let you customize it a bit. There's a certain height/handedness I like to use for every position, but it's impossible to do in this mode. (Ex. I like to have a big, RH batting SS. There's no indication of how tall the player is on their card, and the option to choose their handedness is locked)
Also, they didn't fix another one of the big problems with DD from last year, either. I always got bored of picking a team to play against and then wondering if the game would be too difficult or easy, and wanted some kind of scheduling system so I just felt like I was playing along a season. You still either choose to play the CPU or someone online. I think instead of choosing 5 different (or the same, I guess) teams to play against, the seasons should be divided into three 3-game series', or two 4-game series'. Would just feel a lot more like baseball rather than creating a team to play random MLB teams. Or, they need to borrow from EA's HUT (DD is essentially the same thing, just also with the ability to have Dynasty cards) and have some CPU and human tournaments (Play four games, win $15m budget. Something like that). It would go a long way.
Keep in mind I've played one play now game and one DD game. I still think it's a very good game, but with all the little things they fixed you'd think their online servers would at least work day 1, and that DD had been addressed a little bit more.
Must say in limited playing time thus far there's really not much to complain about. Graphics stellar and hitting coming easy. The fielding meter is somethin to get used to. Haven't had any in game stutter problems. But I do notice at the menue the music stutters but I don't care about that. Anothet great game gonna do a fantasy draft tonight until knights rosters are released then use the Cubs.
I was complaining earlier about hard-hit balls and being able to advance runners realistically. I bumped up the difficulty to HOF (was playing All Star), and this seems to have cut down on the number of balls that are squared up on. It seems the CPU leaves a lot of pitches out over the plate on All Star hitting, making it easy to hit balls well.
Still need to keep playing to confirm this. I've also decreased the fielder reaction speed and throw speed sliders a few clicks.
One other tip: I set hitting to beginner mode just to see what it was like. Since you can rake very easily on this level, I started seeing a wide variety of hit types. Good way to get a first-hand look at the ball physics, worth messing around with it for a bit in my opinion.
I have the disc version of the game and did the 10gb install and havent seen any stuttering of any kind. I have my TV on game mode and the PS3 output on 720 and the game is as smooth as can be. Played two games and love it. The added hitting cameras helped also. Have always struggled with finding a camera i liked.

I agree, I have yet to see it during the game. Only stuttering I saw was done during the introduction.
I have to say so far, in a relatively short sample size, I have mixed reviews. Well that isn't exactly right. I absolutely love every aspect of the game except for hitting.
Graphically the game is beautiful. I love the new cyberfaces for players that aren't on their default team. Even if you send a player to AAA or AA for your team their portrait changes to a cyberface with that teams appropriate minor league hat. Love the new ball physics. I gave up on Button Accuracy early on. I just kept throwing to the wrong base, no idea why but I kept rushing and throwing to second base no matter the situation. Plus I felt the meter took away from the beauty of the game.
Pitching for me seems about the same as last year. All my games so far have been right in line with 12 except for 1 spring training game where I gave up 9 runs in 1 inning. While I was not happy about it it was quite refreshing to see as this does happen in real life.
Fielding seems to be much smoother. I've had one instance where a grounder was fielded by my 3rd baseman and was beaten out but I hadn't preloaded the throw so I'm thinking that was the issue. I've seen different errors this year already. I had a pop up to Castro that he just flat out missed. Was pretty neat to see.
Hitting I have to say I am awful at. I admit I was a guess pitch user in the past only because I can't layoff the low pitches. I've tried the new guess pitch feature and I find it quite distracting. Only because as soon as the indicator pops up I swing, LOL! I've been playing around with sliders and that has made things worse. Basically I've been trying to see more balls and draw walks. It seems on veteran out of the box most pitches are either strikes or balls that just miss. The new slower pitch speed is really throwing me off. I am early on everything. But hopefully with more playing time and practice things will work themselves out.
Overall I really like the game. As soon as I get my hitting done I will absolutely love the game!
Oh btw, I have only had a couple of stuttering issues. Not anymore than I've seen in years past.
Playing online, they removed the messaging application and force you to use the PSN message, when doing so, my screen locks up for a few seconds while sending the message. Not sure why this has changed. I like the old style messaging.
I've moved all 3 sliders relating to cpu pitcher 3 clicks left.
I'm seeing more balls now early in the count. Dominant pitchers and control pitchers are unaffected but guys who should be less precise are now less precise.
Yes, I was able to draw walks before but I was getting really irritated with the inevitable first pitch strike.
