I say it every year: "there's no way they can possibly top this."
I really and truly thought about skipping this year's game, that's how much I loved MLB 12. But with the Astros moving and the wildcard game being added, yeah, I had to buy this year's game.
I've only played a little bit so far, but I'll go ahead and say it again: There's no way they can possibly top this (and yet, somehow, they will).
I don't know if it's the new overlays (which I love) or what, but the game feels fresh to me. I'm playing with pitch speed at default, and while pitches are coming in fast (I usually play on 0), I'm able to read them and able to pull the ball. Feels really really good so far. Very very happy so far.
After playing some more I'm starting to get really frustrated with how just about every ball put in play is hit really hard. Double plays are turned so fast that my runner is out at first by 4 steps routinely, mainly because the ball rockets off the bat.
Still having issues scoring from second on singles, I had Hardy on second after a double and then Markakis lines a hard single to right. I sent hardy just to see how close the play would be at the plate. He was thrown out by 20 feet at least.
What sliders can be adjusted to fix this? Maybe it's still a small sample size but since I have noticed it, I am really noticing that the majority of balls put on play are hit really hard.
Strange. I had a bunch of really crappy contact balls put into play in my game. Like dribblers. Just terrible hits lol
I was in the same circumstance and I believe the same thing. He has the perfect baseball video game voice. It's just so smooth. Although I like Matt, Steve is making me think of wanting Thom Brennaman instead.
Put me in this camp as well (another huge ASB fan). While the underlying problem with the commentary is still the same, I think Lyons adds a lot despite that. Of course, I also am one of the few who doesn't think the commentary is horrible (it's just not at the same level as the competition is all). And while I'm a fan of Matt V, it would be refreshing to hear a new voice call the game. Thom Brennaman would be a perfect fit!
Some other general impressions:
-I've also gotten stuttering on 2 different PS3s (an 80gb fatty and a 320gb slim). The pitch stutter is worse on the older system (which is likely a just product of years of heavy use), but I've gotten it on both. Not as bad as some though, thankfully (and it's really inconsistent, so it might be tough to pinpoint, I fear). I do see a fair amount of stutter in-between replays, overlays, etc and also have the menu music skip as well. I felt 12 was much smoother in that regard. Haven't tried without connecting yet though (which might help with the transition and menu stutter some).
-I agree with many who say graphics seem sharper. It also seems something is more accurate proportion-wise on certain players (smaller, leaner guys seem, well, smaller and leaner. It's like height in general is better proportioned). I might just be seeing things (could be better lighting or something instead, I dunno).
- Digging the new overlays and scorebug
-As someone who has terrible vision/reaction, I appreciate the pitch speed reduction. I was able to get around on plenty of pitches using Zone-something I couldn't do so well the last couple of years.
-Fielding animations seem silky-smooth so far and I've already noticed some improvement in hit variety and. It's also less awkward trying to manually field a ball directly of the wall this year IMO.
-A minor thing, but I dig seeing the full roster breakdown in the edit screen.
So I'm also disappointed about the guess pitcher indicator now. Last year I was able to walk 85 times with my RTTS and was working on more. I don't need to hit as I find this years version on all star default waaaay to easy. My RTTS guy has 7 HR In 7 games. 2 in one game. No walks 385 BA and 4 doubles and 16 RBI
My first game was exhibition as the jays against the Red Sox 7-6 game late for the jays. Red Sox come back to tie. Extra innings, get to the 13th 2 outs for the jays and they allow a walk, a hit and something else to load the bases for Jose Reyes. 3-2 2 outs he hits a grand slam 11-7. Red Sox get a small rally to make it 11-8 in a loss. 16 and 15 hits for each team. 3 hrs for jays. 2 for sox. Lots of strike outs Johnson had 7 or 8 in 7th. Some guys like JPA struck out 4 times. I did walk twice or so.
Have to find a good slider set
Agree game is polished. Some I like some is great some I don't care for. Still should be fun. Batting "feels" better though
We might be able to do something about the SOTS volume no promises though.
I know you ma not be the right person to ask but is there anyway you can push sony to increase the capacity of the cartridges
I really want diamond dynasty on the vita
OMG! Miguel Cabrera just tried the hidden ball trick! Jed Lowrie had just hit a triple and then they showed Miggy trying to catch Lowrie off the base! It was a cutscene of course but I've never seen that before. New?

What would be really nice is a volume controller in the song editor next year or in the future. It would save so much time.
Instead of putting a song on a flashdrive, copying it to the PS3, loading it into the Show, realizing the volume is too low, then needing to delete it and take the song into audacity to raise the volume and repeat the process; I could just raise the volume of the track right there in the game. That would be awesome if it was possible.

No. It's been in there for years. One of the oldest tricks in the (video) game.
OMG! Just saw something that answers a question I've had: "do cpu defenders make human.like mental mistakes"? Well, u tell me.
I had a runner on 2nd against Norris (of course I'd be picking on the stros) and I hit a weak come backer. Bud fielded it cleanly and started to throw to first, but then he pulled it back, wheeled and threw to 3rd instead. He did not get the runner. It was great.
Here's the weird part. It didn't look canned or planned, like his intention was to fake to 1st from the get go. It really looked like he simply changed his mind and made a mental error.
Ok guys, I've only played RTTS so far but hopefully someone can answer this for me?! SORRY if it's already been addressed in the past 7 pages, but when I guess pitches (set on Default and I've tried it on PCI (???) ) even if I get the pitch type right, it no longer tells me! It's only told me location. Glitch?
