I just played Milan (me) vs Juve. Pirlo played a handful of balls not on the ground. I'm ok with it on long passes but his short pass is a 95. They should be crisp and on the ground.

I did see 2 great foul calls and a very cool quick restart where my guy got fouled, the ball rolled on to another defender, there was no advantage and my other defender passed it to the guy who got fouled who re-started play. It was very natural.
I've seen that a lot. I like that and I finally got to see the sub board up close as the player subbed in. I'm loving the little touches....

Here are the sliders I'm using and I'm getting some decent, realistic, believable results.

World Class or Legendary
All MANUAL...except shooting at SEMI
Analog Sprint ON
Game Speed: SLOW...it seems a little faster this year.

Changes U/CPU

Pass Accuracy 50/95
Marking 100/100
Line Height 35/35
Line Width 30/30
Line Length 30/30

I think the key to getting a more "sloppy" game is shrinking the amount of space. At the default line and marking settings there is unrealistic amount of space.

Shrinking the space allows you to better defend off the ball, your CPU teammates, because they are closer to their mark or more likely to make a play on the ball and show better reactions. Closer marking and reduced space should eventually lead to more fouls being called.

I'm not really sure I can give any type of impressions at this point other than I love the ball physics and the random first touches. 3 minute halves are just too quick and with the tighter settings you are really forced to think about tactics and building an attack. I've played several games where neither team was able to get a shot off.

A couple of other likes:

The arrows with a numerical value showing form
The formations are now labeled and don't just show the numbers
Random comments about players not starting
Skill Games: ADDICTIVE
Contact system is so much better

Also, when I fired up the demo about 20 minutes ago, I noticed that Arsenal had Van Persie and Song in the lineup????? Up until tonight they weren't even on the squad. Anyone else notice this???

I LOVED FIFA 12 with similar slider settings. I'll probably be tinkering around with F13 for a while before finding out what works best, but I think it will be a huge improvement over FIFA 12. Career mode sounds like it will be the best yet.

My only concern with these slider tweaks is whether or not each team will play the same or differently. Have you noticed any teams playing differently or true to their real-life counterparts?

I believe RVP and Song appear on arsenal if you don't connect to the EA servers.

ok, I think I'm gonna be in the lower the marking slider to get better defense camp. I set it to 0 for both teams and I ended up winning 1-0 with a goal in the 89th minute. I was man city vs Milan. Played on legendary, PC version, using the time expander playing 6 minute halves. I only got off 8 total shots. The CPU got off 4 shots.

I saw a lot more activity in the box by the cpu defenders. A lot of attempted kick saves on any shot I tried to get off, whereas usually I notice them just look at the shot go by. Pretty encouraging but gotta play some more games.

***played another game, me using Juve vs Borussia. Game ended 1-1. Both of us got off 5 shots. I saw the same extra activity in the box and they actually were pressuring me more in general. On my goal, it was a shot I took from the top of the box and while it was in mid flight one of the defenders came jumping in out of nowhere and threw a header to try to defend it but to no avail. Thought that was pretty cool. Don't recall seeing that.

Placebo effect? Who knows, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so I'll stick with it.

Problem in Legendary passing still exists. I would like to have a lower % in CPU acuracy but with high passing error slider the bouncing is just too ugly, and this is with top teams, I wonder how it looks in the final release with lower league teams.
I´ve even consider playing in world class, and then use sliders to turn game more dificult. In world class, passing error slider at 60 makes the CPU miss here and there, without too much boucing effect. Problem is, the defending is weaker. I guess one has too loose something, we just have too choose what we like the most: gameplay or statistics.

Do your teammates defend better? Also, do the teams play differently?

I got a response from the FIFA dev... he said he prefers slow speed (I said default was too fast) and the pass power feels better in the full game (I mentioned manual passes specifically). Closed by saying they did some tuning since the demo. Did not mention defense at all in his quick reply, but I'll try to continue the conversation...

I'm intrigued by the lower marking is better discussion... I mentioned before how I had wild high-scoring games when I went above 70-75 marking in FIFA12. I chalked it up to defenders focusing too much on marking individuals and getting pulled out of position. I never even thought to try it with lower settings, but if it works, that would make me feel a lot better about getting a few years out of career mode.

I'll have to explore this tonight in the demo and on Friday once the game comes out on Season Ticket. What you guys are saying might be true that by putting the marking slider at 100 makes the AI overplay... still odd and still is an area that deserves a lot of attention.

There's definitely ways to tighten up the defense, using a combination of the speed(spring and acc), marking and line setting sliders. I do think when you jack the marking slider up too high players tend to over commit, allowing for huge gaps but I at least didn't see lower marking numbers equal tighter marking. I got the best results by upping the marking slider slightly(less than 10-12 clicks), lowering speed(42/45 for spr and acc) and shrinking the lines(40-45-49 for H-L-W). Although these settings are by no means perfect, they show what's possible with more slider tuning.

The offline / AI experience is going to be really imperfect, we all know it. One thing we can certainly expect is for all the teams to play (almost) the exact same. Krebstar did his best last year to provide us with sliders that would create a varied experience, but nothing will change the core mechanics of the AI.

I think we can also safely say that differences between 90 rated players and 70 rated players will often be indistinguishable.

With all of that said, you know what? I don't care. As long as the Career Mode is deep enough and the player growth / development actually works, I'll play FIFA. I've probably said this too many times already, but with warts and all in FIFA 12's gameplay, it was good enough for me to enjoy thoroughly within the context of a Career Mode. Unfortunately, the academy and development were 100% broken. My biggest concern with FIFA 13 right now is that EA have made no official announcement about changes to either. Color me pessimistic, but I think that's probably a bad sign.

It will be interesting to see people weigh in on the season ticket. I am curious to hear what has been tweaked post demo.

I still do not see myself purchasing FIFA this year just because I see so many logic mistakes and lapses in judgement from the AI. This is the same stuff that drove me absolutely nuts in 12, and while 13 has improved, many of the same AI issues persist to a lesser degree. I also need to see more than 1 foul called every 5 matches. I know some are seeing all kinds of fouls but I am getting mugged game after game against CPU and rarely see a call. Another carry over issue from 12 that was close to a game breaker.

How much is season pass? If you buy it now would it be good up through Madden and NCAA of next year or would it expire at the end of this year? Kind of pointless to buy season pass this late if such is the case. It would be good for a weekend rental of FIFA and nothing more? Does it cover NFS?

I see fouls called correctly the majority of the time, it's just hard on the higher levels to get the ball off the CPU when they start spinning around.

I love manual controls, Manager Mode, and the licenses. I can live with a lot of the faults except the poor markin in/or around the box. We shouldn't need a slder to tell our defenders to not give attackers space in the box. I've tried both marking settings (75 & 5) to no avail.

That's what I thought when I had crazy scores with high marking in '12, but someone above suggested that lower marking values equals tighter marking.

I have ST, so I'll try to post some impressions. Although I didn't play the demo too much due to the short halves. To answer your questions, ST is $25 and it lasts for one year from subscription date. You'd get the early release for FIFA13, Tiger Woods, NCAA, Madden, NHL, and possibly part of FIFA 14 (depending on release date). I'm almost certain Need For Speed is not part of the deal, only EA Sports titles. There are some additional incentives for each game, often related to UT card packs, and 20% in-game DLC purchases like UT packs.

Also, free creation center DLC which was about $10 last year I believe.

I may not fully understand Ultimate Team (it doesn't appeal to me whatsoever - Pokemon anyone?), but as it is undoubtedly a cash cow, I wonder how much its development influences the overall FIFA engine and mechanics. It reminds me, to some extent, of the relationship between PVP and PVE in MMO games, most notably of course World of Warcraft.

Don't want to say the lower setting is a placebo effect but the defending is broken/or near broken in FIFA. The game is built for offense and the defense isn't coded to counter what you can do on offense.

I fear it could be the same for the final version as well, but I guess I will see this Friday. I look forward of getting a weekend of FIFA's career mode in, that is what I did last year, but pass that I don't know if it will have that lasting effect.

I think the earlier poster is definitely onto something. I adjusted the marking slider downward and there was a marked difference (pun only slightly intended).
