Madden NFL 13 News Post

Madden NFL 13 Title Update #2 is available now for 360 users. We'll update this post when PS3 users can see it.

This update includes a new instant start option when creating a player in CCM. The team has also fixed numerous stability issues and GameFace improvements.

While the team hasn't added the ability to edit players in CCM, they still haven't shot down the idea completely, in hopes to have it available in a future patch.

The week 1 Madden NFL 13 updated rosters for CCM are not included in this title update, but are supposed to be out sometime this week.

UPDATE: Here are the details on the title update.
  • Added an Instant Start option to Connected Careers as a player
  • Numerous commentary improvements to address when lines trigger and what they say.
  • Added a trade notification in CCM for the NFL Draft
  • Fixed social media sharing post-game to address spacing issues
  • Improved the GameFace feature
  • Fixed Challenge Audio to make the appropriate call
  • Improved Physics Get-up post play
  • Adjusted created players in Connected Careers so that they always have high progression grades despite their backstory choices
  • Fixed defensive assignment issues against the CPU AI when users were in Man Coverage
  • Increased the chances to trade for a CPU team’s starter
  • Adjusted the scouting development trait in CCM to display as (Slow, Medium, Fast, or Superstar) instead of 0-3.
  • Added the ability to post results from H2H MUT games on Facebook/Twitter.
  • Numerous stability issues around the game in general were also included in the update to improve the overall experience and Connected Careers specifically.

So far, that's all I noticed that has been cleaned up.

... but does this also mean the CPU running backs don't fall over as soon as he runs into the back of his Oline?

Still 3 more hours at work and then home and do some testing!

What I don't get is why patches need to be certified by MS or Sony. My certification from them would be either test the game better before you release it or fix the bugs people want fixed NOW. Why should we have to wait 2 months or more for a patch to fix near game breaking bugs and/or game play?

It's a football game and the core of what football is has been lost through the years by EA and the Madden franchise. Make a football game first then build around it.

lol @ spin the bottle. Its funny but when my daughter sees me playing Madden she laughs so hard after every play because of how the players are falling all over the place.

She just want to see the end of every play and cares less about the action during the game.

I will be very honest with you. I dont like RTP in a football game. I can see where in some areas it may make things look better, but overall I think it hurts the game, and it is just way to complicated to implement correctly.

To me NCAA feels more like a grounded football game. The players control much better and are in much more control of themselves. I like scripted animations I just would like for them to keep adding much more animations that reflect momentum and weight. This way we can get much more vary animations when impact happens of any sort.

I was talking to Phobia about this , and I truly hope NCAA does not go with the IE.

RTP is very delicate and I can imagine very tough to do with a Football game.

Leaving this pile of garbage alone untill patch 3...only if patch 3 actually fix the major problems.

Here is an entertaining story for everyone:

Resumed my offline player CCM with a created player as a balanced HB. Finished preseason and then played my first game with the Ravens against the Bengals. Final score 56 - 44 to the Ravens in 11 minute quarters with 23 second accelerated clock.

The sim engine is screwed as the time that goes off for each play is not right. Andy Dalton had 76 passing attempts in the game. Ray Rice had 45 rushing attempts. 3 players had more than 200 yards receiving...unfortunately I didn't check the total amount of plays. But still, after seeing that, Madden came out of my ps3 and into my cupboard. Won't touch it before these issues are fixed.

Also, whenever I'm called into the game, we only call plays out of the shotgun formation...not a single one out of it. Happened in preseason as well.
You want to fix the sim engine? Play 7 minute quarters with no acc. clock. The super sim engine is messed because it does not take into account the acc. clock. Those 7 minute quarters (no acc. clock) give each team around 100-120 plays a game which is an average NFL football game.

What other problem do you have?

Dunno but, just saw my first pass interference call......ever! (online ccm)

Try moving acc clock to 15 seconds. That is pretty much the amount of time a team brakes their huddle.

This may help.

But the lynch mob mentality persists.

We are all frustrated we have a game that is incomplete. But what else can you do?

I am playing other games. No reason to get worked up over a video game.

I understand your thoughts and agree some. I complained too and I can see how yeah it's a waste of time since what can you do right? However if a patch to fix things true long time Madden fans expect to see takes several months by then the love of football starts to lessen as basketball starts and seasons change. I myself don't care much for editing and fantasy draft rosters but when the computer AI is just plain stupid and makes for a very unrealistic play experience then that is where I draw the line. Not everyone plays online or wants to. I could play and have fun against the CPU playing madden way back on the PS2 days so why can't I/we now?

# 69 Marvc @ 09/11/12 11:08 AM
What if they made you pay 40 bucks for the game than another 20 bucks for all the updates and fixes since they are obviously selling us an incomplete game of a mess alluding to bugs and glitches!

Here is a big one. Will the patch effect current CCM offline? Online? Or do I have to start all over?

# 71 Tyrant8RDFL @ 09/11/12 11:13 AM

Yes The Sliders Now Work for Online CC Woooooo Hooooo!

Just practicing what im going to type when a real patch comes out

# 72 Double-J @ 09/11/12 11:16 AM
Any word on whether or not they fixed the fair catch bug in the patch?

# 73 Boltman @ 09/11/12 11:16 AM
Gonna fire it up and see if there are any noticeable changes to my already started offline CCM.

I'm a software developer for a living (albeit in server-side business middleware, which I'd argue is way simpler than platform game development).

This game has only been released to the public for two weeks. Depending on the bug sometimes it takes that long just to reproducible bug, triage it, and get a patch for it and get it committed to the main code line. This isn't even counting manual QA and several other things that go into the release process. This stuff isn't easy.

Chances are the stability fixes being mentioned are things that were causing actual loss of gameplay, crashing, major loss of functionality, but were only rarely occurring such that the risk of releasing the game with those bugs in there was small and they've probably been able to successfully reproduce and patch those critical issues.

Developers aren't gods and can't just simply "write more code" to fix something. Give them a break in expecting something so soon.

Of course, with this said, there are lots of warts (and CCM gameplay!) that really should be able to get patched in time for that bigger patch that people keep alluding to in 1-2 months. Realistically hold off on being disappointing until then. The fact there actually seems to be a somewhat predictable patch cycle shows that EA Sports actually does care here - I've worked in software shops that didn't care before and never bumped priority on things that caused loss of functionality for a minority of users and didn't plan a patch cycle accordingly.

I get what you ppl are saying BUT ...

There have been a lot of problems the developers were aware off. Like the zone problem which is the exact same one as NCAA (they patched it) so I'm sure they could have worked on a decent patch pre release already.

Also Accel clock online CCM or injuries online CCM. Cmon someone had to have noticed that before they released it.

Complaint I am seeing a lot on these forums:

Why is it such a big deal that it needs to be looked into to simply add editing players into this game?

If you have been following Josh Looman as I have he has answered this question. Editing players can more or less make Connected Careers mode crash or not function correctly with the storylines etc. So it is likely that they have to re-do some of the coding with the storylines and the entire CCM mode to accomodate for editing of players. Last thing I want is for them to rush out editing players and then CCM crashes/freezes every time I play it because of it.

Why is it so hard to implement a fantasy draft into Connected Careers?

They would, in fact, have to rewrite the code for multiple screens of the game and fabricate a whole new screen and process. A new toggle-able option on the CCM startup screen. It alters the flow of the pre-career setup significantly. More signifantly then an edit player option even. It also could potentially lead to a destabilization of the mode if not done correctly.

Then why did they take these things out?

They did not take these things out. This is not the Madden that has existed on this console since day one. The entire code was scrapped, and they used very little of the old code in this new game. Therefore, they did not take it out. They were not able to put it back in under the new format in time.

Its a different game. Its likely they did not know that the same issue is in it, and if they did, its not like the two games run on the same coding therefore the patch would be necessarily different.

It has to be cerified for security reasons because its going on their servers, they could give a flip about the game, it isnt theirs.

This isn't solely a Madden thing, though.

The same thing happens with the baseball games, FIFA, NHL and NBA 2k. Except for MLB 2k, the difference is those games are better out of the box than Madden and people are more willing to wait.

When should we expect the PS3 update to be available?
