I think this may be one of my big problems with not scoring. I still haven't got use to the idea of getting my player under control while taking a shot. Causing my shots to be less accurate.

Pros:

New Skating Engine
More Strategies
Improved AI
NHL Moments Live

Cons:

Physics still feel off
Goalies move unrealistically fast
Presentation improvements underwhelming
Cpu Offense is awful
Defensemen still not active enough

Overall, I'm very optimistic about NHL 13, but it seems like it will probably be NHL 14 or 15 before the game reaches close to its full potential. I'm still buying though

Does anyone know if there is a specific way to make the goalie sprawl out and use the individual limb movement to make a save? I got heavily manhandled cross-crease a few times and i need to know how to make a ridiculously impossible save like i see the CPU doing all the time. Thanks

I didn't think I'd need to make a statement, but apparently I do. There should be no discussion of disciplinary action in the forums. If it concerns you, please address it with a moderator or site admin. If it doesn't concern you, then there's really nothing to talk about, is there?

QB, how did you miss the opportunity to reference your avatar by posting a vid of Sam L. saying "I don't remember asking you a GD thing!", hahaha!

Played a couple more games last night and I'm very torn.
There are so many improvements to the game, but I think I'll wait a good week or two after release to get an idea of how the AI plays offline; specifically how different some teams are to play against.
If you can really tell a difference between the Leafs and Rangers, then I think I'll be buying it as the Dynasty mode shouldn't get stale after 2 weeks.

Agreed. I'm finally having success in shootouts, and the main difference is I start gliding at the hashmarks before I make my move.

After taking the time to dick around in Free Skate with the "always up" control scheme, I have to say that the new broadcast camera is a game changer for me. I'm really enjoying the new skating engine and graphical upgrades (and yes, I'm on PS3, no clue what the fuzzy visuals people are seeing are), but to me the new camera is going just as far to make this feel like a totally new game.

I've grown incredibly bored of this series over the past couple years, to the point where I played until about the all star break in year 1 of my BaGM last year (typically I'll get through anywhere from 1.5-3 seasons depending on my schedule). It wasn't even due to any specific issue, it was just that "been there, done that" feeling. For me personally at least, it really seems like this camera + new skating should make me a happy camper this year.

I'm with you on that. But I love it. Go into free skate and make sure you're gliding when you take a shot. You won't believe how much more accurate you are.

I still can't get enough of this demo. I can't even count how many times of played all of the different modes. 2 more weeks and I'll be in hockey heaven for the next year.

What's everyone's feelings so far on the overall speed of the game? I'm thinking that although I like the game the way it plays at default I might turn the game speed down a notch or two. Its a little too up-and-down for me.

# 332 gopher_guy @ 08/28/12 09:29 PM
I will turn the game speed down initially when I get the full game, just to see how it plays. I like the speed the demo is at, because you can really tell who the elite skaters are.

I know that that speed separation will still be there if you turn the game speed down, but I want to have that feeling of "Whoa, he's really fast" instead of "Everyone else is slower than him". If that makes any sense

I'm with you on that. I can't wait to play with Patty Kane.

If anything I think acceleration might need to be turned down. To me it just seems like there's too many players flying around too fast.

I just watched a CPU vs. CPU game from the TBC, and I must say, it is very much like watching a game on TV. Game looks awesome.

That being said, there are some AI flaws that really rear their ugly heads when you watch a CPU vs. CPU game. The CPU AI seems reluctant to try and shoot from the slot, which is a pretty big problem. They are either taking shots way too early from bad angles, or when they do get in the slot they skate out of it and shoot. Not all the time, but enough for me to identify it as a problem.

Another "bug" in the AI is when the CPU retreats back into his own zone, behind his net with the puck when an opposing player puts pressure on him. I've seen it where they are about to skate into the zone, but all of the sudden an opposing player steps up to challenge them, and instead of dumping the puck or passing to a teammate, they literally skate all the way back behind their net to set up another breakout. Looks/is very unrealistic.

To clarify - I have NO idea why Realm got banned. I also want to state that I sent him a personal note of apology last week, well before he was banned, so this has nothing to do with me. But to say I "taunted" him simply is not true. I had a "disagreement" with him regarding what I was seeing in this demo. I was objective, and though he felt some things weren't to his liking, he seemed to take objection to ANYONE who found fault with this demo. OS is a better place, I believe, because of people like me who have given back a lot to this community with rosters and sliders. But you're entitled to your opinion of me, and that's fine.

Yeah I've been thinking I'll most likely turn the game speed down one notch.

Imo...it certainly isn't bad where it's at now. But I prefer the game to play maybe a bit slower. I mean...I'm getting beat to the puck all over the place. Partly because of poor positioning on my part, but also I think because my reaction time is just plain slow. I think I need a little more time for the thought in my head...to get to my hands.

Yeah Gagnon, this is very good advice for me. I'm sure getting the idea I need the practice. Because thankfully, the game is quite a bit different now. And imo...the game needed to be different at this point. And they sure succeed, nicely.

I did spend some time in the Free skate. But more than anything...I was just getting such a kick outta just skating around in freaking circles! It just looked/felt so neat to see the player leaning into the hard turns. And I'd nearly swear I saw at least once, a player kinda putting his hand down near ice level for balance. Unless I was seeing things. But yep...shooting practice is next.

I like the speed of the game, always have. I just need a full game on 10 min periods to see what kinds of shot totals/passing % there is compared to last year's game.

I wonder why he was banned, looking over his last 5 or so posts, I see nothing wrong with them.

He's a great contributor to these NHL forums and I'm tired of the 2k folks coming in here and always bashing EA's NHL game.

Good grief....

The same can be said of some who still feel the need to bash EA's NHL game and most of it is really nit picky stuff.

The lack of a game ruined the forums. It's unfortunate 2k isn't making hockey games anymore, I still own NHL 2k10 and play it from time to time.

We all know Realm isn't into 2k hockey and we all know you're not into EA hockey, no need to get upset about it.
