NBA 2K13 News Post

The '92 Dream Team & 2012 Olympic team will be featured in NBA 2K13. Charles Barkley is in, but Scottie Pippen couldn't get a deal worked out.

It's cool we get to battle it out between these 2 teams, but with Pippen off the roster, it puts a definite blemish on the announcement.

NBA 2K13 to Feature 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and Legendary 1992 "Dream Team"

2K Sports proudly announces partnership with USA Basketball for NBA 2K13

2K Sports today announced a partnership with USA Basketball to feature both the star-studded 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and the 1992 “Dream Team” in NBA 2K13, the next installment of the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*.

“As executive producer, letting fans go head to head with these legendary USA teams was extremely important to JAY Z,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We are excited to partner with USA Basketball, and share in JAY Z’s enthusiasm in making this a reality in NBA 2K13.”

The 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team has earned recognition as one of USA Basketball’s all-time greatest teams. NBA 2K13 cover athlete Kevin Durant helped lead the USA to its successful showing and joins the elite list of accomplished basketball players who have represented USA Basketball.

“It was an incredible blessing to have been part of the 2012 USA Basketball National Team,” said Durant. “USA Basketball's National Team legacy is incredible and so many of basketball’s all-time greats have been part of it, I’m just honored to be in that group. Like everybody, I can’t wait to see how our squad stacks up against the 1992 team in NBA 2K13.”

The original “Dream Team” is widely considered the most dominant sports team ever assembled, and featured 11 Hall of Fame players including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, David Robinson and Charles Barkley.

“The experience we shared in Barcelona is truly one of the highlights of my career,” said five-time NBA MVP and former NBA 2K cover athlete Michael Jordan. “Being able to represent not only my country but basketball as a whole is an honor that I will never forget.”

“The fantasy matchup between the legendary 1992 ‘Dream Team’ and the 2012 USA Men’s national team has become one of the greatest sports debates of our time,” stated JAY Z, the Executive Producer of NBA 2K13. “In NBA 2K13, we’re giving fans the opportunity to play as two of the best teams ever assembled in sporting history, literally putting the debate right into their hands.”

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, NBA 2K13 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available on October 2, 2012 in North America and October 5, 2012 internationally for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Wii™ system and Windows PC. You are going to learn the dribble stick by playing games or in practice it doesn't matter. It affects you. It affects how you play the game. It's going to impact your 2k13 experience no matter what.

2 olympic teams are not.

and I do know if enough about marketing to know if enough people are complaining about it, then it's not working. And the # of complaints seem to be growing...
Let me make it clearer: I will spend more time playing with the Dream Team than I will learning the new controls.

If you knew more about marketing, you would know that complaints on OS typically dont affect sales in any way. This forum is a place filled with fanatics who bitch about every small thing and are rarely satisfied. This is not the place you go to get the pulse of how successful a game will be.

Sigh... smh....

You jumped in on a conversation/response I had to aholbert32's post and now you're trying to tell me I'm not making any sense when I try to defend my point? My conversation with you is over.

To everyone else: We can only hope that 2K plans on offering a substantial game mode involving the Dream Team because the mere inclusion of the two teams seems a bit thin.

Gameplay info is comming too anyway. Just no hurry.

It's not as if this was put in the game instead of gameplay improvements. I don't really care about that team, but I still think it's kinda cool.

This announcement might not please us all, but there are many more to come.

It's bad news. Hopefully, 2k can keep negotiating with Pippen until the game comes out and hopefully add him late just like they did with Laphonso Ellis.

Don't take things so seriously....LOL

I actually battled the Heat with the Raptors on a nightly basis during this past season...LOL.

I'm just glad this team finally got it's due in videogame form. It really was the greatest team every assembled.

Most of my friends are casual 2k gamers.

I say: hey 2k has new controls and physics! they dont care lol.

I say: Hey 2k has the dream team, 2012 olympic usa team, charles Barkley and being produced by Jay-Z! they wanna pre-order it lol.

Casual fans outnumber us hardcore fans big time. This is a huge annoucement marketing wise.

I highly doubt that the team will be playable online anyway. And the Heat users you're talking about would probably play with the Dream team too lol.

Here's why:

Scenario #1
Scottie: Sup, 2K. I'd like you to pay me $2M instead of $1M this year.
2K: We're kind of short on funds after acquiring Charles Barkley. That's a bit too much.
Scottie: Goodbye

Scenario #2
2K: Hi, Scottie. How are you doing today? We're offering to pay you $1M this year.
Scottie: That's not enough. I'd like more.
2K: We can't afford more at this time. We're sorry.
Scottie: Goodbye

Whichever side negotiated first, it still led to the same result.

If they offered less it was because of Barkley. Who everyone bitched about not being in last year's game.

I agree this is big. For those of us who remember late 80s/90s basketball when the sport was at its very peak, the 92 Olympic team is a dream (pun) come true. I could care less about current top teams like the lakers or the heat but love the classic teams a lot.

And considering the media started a small controversy between Kobe and MJ over the better Olympic team I like the whole What-If? showdown scenario 2K is using to market this.

Some of you guys get way too worked up over these 'huge' announcements. the best announcement so far came last week when they talked about the control stick and gameplay, and maybe Im wrong but I do not think there was any kind of hint about that news. All this 'big' announcement crap is for the average fans who aren't worried about gameplay or crews. This news is for the people who are going to go onto twitter and see that the dream team is in the game and think "OMG I can play dream team vs 2012 team and see who is best!". The same people who probably got excited about the game just hearing about jay-z.

Besides the gameplay news (which was pretty big news) everything else has just been cool additions, but nothing that will make or break the game. 2k still has another month in a half to talk about online, my player, association, legend teams (?), presentation, etc. I understand that some people were expecting or hoping this news to be something else but why get upset about it? 2k isn't going to reveal everything about the game right now and no matter when they release info we still have to wait until oct 2 so just chill and enjoy the news as it comes. I would rather 2k save some of the bigger news and info for later just so I'm not itching for the game over a month before release.

Guys, maybe Scottie really needed more money... some money is better than nothing but I guess he really wanted to pull extra. Sucks... I hope he's doing well...

# 254 Unit303 @ 08/15/12 02:32 PM
Pippen was used quite often on the Dream Team. Whatever you think of the guy his stats speak for themselves:

Still, Pippen finished the 1994–95 season leading the Bulls in every major statistical category—points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks—becoming only the second player in NBA history to accomplish this.

Oh right just a second banana. They were one touch foul away from going to the championships vs Knicks. With the Blazers they battled the refs like no other as every team does when it's LA and lost. Not really Pippen's fault.

Seriously, if you think Pippen is some kind of hang on yer just plain being dumb about it.

# 255 BezO @ 08/15/12 02:34 PM
Damn Scottie! Way to eff up a cool addition.

I'm not mad at the announcement. I played a lot with the old school teams. Having the dream team & unis is definitely a plus. 2012 Olympic team is cool too.

# 256 Nathan_OS @ 08/15/12 02:34 PM
What would be kinda cool was if we got these teams in the Demo

Most likely cause of Sir Charles.

I'm certain most of us in here would accept less to be part of a bigger picture. But to guys like Pippen, whom are revered as sidekicks, taking less is like a slap in the face to them.

But I guess you have to be a certain type of person to take less to be part of something historical.
Spoiler

# 258 Unit303 @ 08/15/12 02:35 PM
Anyway you have it these players DESERVE the money because they are making bank off people like me with nostalgia. You pay the man simple as that. You keep working on it. This game makes plenty of money.

# 259 xMoJox @ 08/15/12 02:36 PM
This is great news and all but can we use these teams online or just in some boring offline mode??

Well, you could blame Charles Barkley for being greedy and wanting so much money just to appear on the dream team. You could blame Pippen for wanting more money to appear in the game. You could blame 2k for offering him enough money. But if you think about it, it is hard to get the whole dream team into a video game. It is true that the dream team isn't the same without Pippen, but there a solutions to this. a. 2k could continue negotiating with him until the game comes out b. People could hex edit him into the game or c. 2k could include something like ea's gameface or improve the CAP system.
