NBA 2K13 News Post

The '92 Dream Team & 2012 Olympic team will be featured in NBA 2K13. Charles Barkley is in, but Scottie Pippen couldn't get a deal worked out.

It's cool we get to battle it out between these 2 teams, but with Pippen off the roster, it puts a definite blemish on the announcement.

NBA 2K13 to Feature 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and Legendary 1992 "Dream Team"

2K Sports proudly announces partnership with USA Basketball for NBA 2K13

2K Sports today announced a partnership with USA Basketball to feature both the star-studded 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and the 1992 “Dream Team” in NBA 2K13, the next installment of the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*.

“As executive producer, letting fans go head to head with these legendary USA teams was extremely important to JAY Z,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We are excited to partner with USA Basketball, and share in JAY Z’s enthusiasm in making this a reality in NBA 2K13.”

The 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team has earned recognition as one of USA Basketball’s all-time greatest teams. NBA 2K13 cover athlete Kevin Durant helped lead the USA to its successful showing and joins the elite list of accomplished basketball players who have represented USA Basketball.

“It was an incredible blessing to have been part of the 2012 USA Basketball National Team,” said Durant. “USA Basketball's National Team legacy is incredible and so many of basketball’s all-time greats have been part of it, I’m just honored to be in that group. Like everybody, I can’t wait to see how our squad stacks up against the 1992 team in NBA 2K13.”

The original “Dream Team” is widely considered the most dominant sports team ever assembled, and featured 11 Hall of Fame players including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, David Robinson and Charles Barkley.

“The experience we shared in Barcelona is truly one of the highlights of my career,” said five-time NBA MVP and former NBA 2K cover athlete Michael Jordan. “Being able to represent not only my country but basketball as a whole is an honor that I will never forget.”

“The fantasy matchup between the legendary 1992 ‘Dream Team’ and the 2012 USA Men’s national team has become one of the greatest sports debates of our time,” stated JAY Z, the Executive Producer of NBA 2K13. “In NBA 2K13, we’re giving fans the opportunity to play as two of the best teams ever assembled in sporting history, literally putting the debate right into their hands.”

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, NBA 2K13 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available on October 2, 2012 in North America and October 5, 2012 internationally for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Wii™ system and Windows PC. Is it unrealistic to think that a "huge announcement" could be regarding a gameplay improvement? Some people on this forums are disappointed that the announcement doesn't have the substance they were hoping for. I think most people who think about it realize that the Dream Teams are just a gimmick to sell more games to casual fans.
To the 5-15% of hardcare fans thats exciting, but what about the other 85%? They could care less really, but all these "gimmicks" is what really gets their attention. Like it or not, we arent the majority so they wont and shouldnt make everything about us.

Im tall but Im not complaining about lower countertop heights, low ceiling heights, clothes that dont fit me right because Im only in the 5% of all the body types out there. Sure they make stuff for me, but its not a easily seen or marketed as everything intended for the masses.

Same goes for this game, they have stuff that gets us hyped, but all the big announcements wont be for us per say. Marketing 101, got to cater to the largest market

That is what the Dream Team is supposed to look like. No generic shoes. Malone isn't ****-diesel. Ewing and Robinson have high-top fades. Larry is clean cut.

It looks like 2K put minimal effort into this "huge announcement". They just used old player faces from 2K11 and 12, same shoes from 12, only added Barkley (who looks way too muscular btw) while subtracting Pippen, and made some new jerseys. Whooptie-freaking-doo!

I am a harsh critic of NBA 2K because I love NBA 2K, kinda like a son. And so far, 2K, you have brought shame upon this family.

People have wanted these NBA PLAYERS in an NBA GAMES for years and now we get it and you can't get past the fact that a social media guy called it huge so now your boo boo hurts?

Man yall are some straight up comedians
Again I'll go back to what I posted earlier saying that when an announcement is "huge," people hope for something substantial.

And of course the Dream Team is the greatest team in the history of basketball, I'm not saying they aren't. BUT, 2K is USING THEM AS A GIMMICK to sell more copies to casual gamers.

God, I swear for as many of you that complain about 2k's marketing...you guys have NO marketing or PR skills. "NBA 2K13 : NOW WITH NEW CONTROLS!!!"
NBA 2K13

Feature List

-Less Defensive Sliding! Defenders no longer slide back into place when you hit them with the ill crossover!
-Working Double Teams! Gone are the days where you can iso the CPU with stars and the stand helpless!
-More Working Features! MyPlayer mode no longer has alphabetic drafts; Player Updates work right this year; NBA Today updates won't corrupt anything!
-Online Modes Work Out of the Box! No longer will you need to wait 6-8 months for a website to show all your friends the many angles of that time you yammed on 'em!

Yeah.... this is why they don't market this stuff.

I'm very satisfied with this announcement.

I'm actually okay with not hearing that much about the heavier modes and gameplay that much till Sept and I don't care about crew.

I get that July to August is made up with "buzz announcements" for 2k and I liked the Jay Z announcement and see his value going forward even though 2K isn't saying to much about him.

I'm mostly just trying to comprehend what effect or value the dream team has in the game besides the one play lure of 2012 vs Dream Team. A mode where we could take on various past USA Olympic teams using the Dream team would be nice.

Well, the hex editors can just get his cyberface id and upload him on 2k share. Then, the roster makers could add him to the 92-93 Suns. But I hope people could still hex edit in 2k13.

Ahhh I wanted to use Scottie to guard LBJ. What do I do now?

Doesnt that effectively lead to the same point? He wanted more money, either it was from an ego thing or he thought he was low balled, it still comes down to more money.

Im not exactly sure how its not huge then

I'm happy to see the Dream Team in the game. They better put the Legends and Olympic teams in Teamup though!

Maybe everyone should tweet @ScottiePippen telling him how you would like to see him in the game. Twitter is a powerful tool, maybe he gets the point and gets a deal done!

# 215 stlpimpmonsta @ 08/15/12 02:03 PM
Maybe he was low balled. My point was that dont drag his name in the dirty if you dont know what was offered

# 216 Altimus @ 08/15/12 02:03 PM
Who knows what Pippen wanted, I've met him before and he isn't the most likable and easy going guy.

Either way, here's to hoping he can be edited in.

Yeah, I mentioned this a few pages back but to repeat, I thought 2K did a pretty solid job of taking classic players who initially looked inaccurate in early footage of 2K12 and shaping them up by release. This obviously doesn't mean it's a certainty they'll do the same this year, but I'm hopeful.

Meanwhile, I actually do think Karl Malone's pretty diesel. He was trimmer back then, but still a brick.

Lastly, I'm kind of curious how they'll handle the shoes. I imagine it'll be tough to outfit any of those guys unless 2K included each of their era-specific models. Even in retirement, I don't think it's free reign for 2K to place whatever sort of shoes they wish onto the feet of these players.

I'm sure they will be able to, but teams on 2K Share and teams included in the original game are quite different. Unless guys have figured out a way to add new courts as well as jerseys.

The PC version will be epic as it was this year but it usually takes half a season to pass before any big updates are released.

Really hope Pippen is on the classic bulls at least

Will be fun to try the dream team but I really liked playing as the real classic teams

Amazing....just amazing !

Finally 2K has given me a team to face all of the Heat users.....LOL....

The dream team is MY team. I was in Junior High when this team played. I remember watching/following them along with all the hype that came with it.

Again....amazing announcement !
