NBA 2K13 News Post

The '92 Dream Team & 2012 Olympic team will be featured in NBA 2K13. Charles Barkley is in, but Scottie Pippen couldn't get a deal worked out.

It's cool we get to battle it out between these 2 teams, but with Pippen off the roster, it puts a definite blemish on the announcement.

NBA 2K13 to Feature 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and Legendary 1992 "Dream Team"

2K Sports proudly announces partnership with USA Basketball for NBA 2K13

2K Sports today announced a partnership with USA Basketball to feature both the star-studded 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and the 1992 “Dream Team” in NBA 2K13, the next installment of the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*.

“As executive producer, letting fans go head to head with these legendary USA teams was extremely important to JAY Z,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We are excited to partner with USA Basketball, and share in JAY Z’s enthusiasm in making this a reality in NBA 2K13.”

The 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team has earned recognition as one of USA Basketball’s all-time greatest teams. NBA 2K13 cover athlete Kevin Durant helped lead the USA to its successful showing and joins the elite list of accomplished basketball players who have represented USA Basketball.

“It was an incredible blessing to have been part of the 2012 USA Basketball National Team,” said Durant. “USA Basketball's National Team legacy is incredible and so many of basketball’s all-time greats have been part of it, I’m just honored to be in that group. Like everybody, I can’t wait to see how our squad stacks up against the 1992 team in NBA 2K13.”

The original “Dream Team” is widely considered the most dominant sports team ever assembled, and featured 11 Hall of Fame players including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, David Robinson and Charles Barkley.

“The experience we shared in Barcelona is truly one of the highlights of my career,” said five-time NBA MVP and former NBA 2K cover athlete Michael Jordan. “Being able to represent not only my country but basketball as a whole is an honor that I will never forget.”

“The fantasy matchup between the legendary 1992 ‘Dream Team’ and the 2012 USA Men’s national team has become one of the greatest sports debates of our time,” stated JAY Z, the Executive Producer of NBA 2K13. “In NBA 2K13, we’re giving fans the opportunity to play as two of the best teams ever assembled in sporting history, literally putting the debate right into their hands.”

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, NBA 2K13 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available on October 2, 2012 in North America and October 5, 2012 internationally for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Wii™ system and Windows PC. It looks like 2K put minimal effort into this "huge announcement". They just used old player faces from 2K11 and 12, same shoes from 12, only added Barkley (who looks way too muscular btw) while subtracting Pippen, and made some new jerseys. Whooptie-freaking-doo!

I am a harsh critic of NBA 2K because I love NBA 2K, kinda like a son. And so far, 2K, you have brought shame upon this family.
I agree with this. 2K did a great job last year with making the Legends feel right for the era they were in. Now they just threw all the faces and models from last year and gave them a new uniform. Why should we have to be 1998 Malone in 1992 or 1986 Bird and not 1992 Bird. I'm not talking about skills and attributes but their looks. Bird needs the short hair and his clean cut look. Malone needs his hair back and not his receding hair line. Robinson and Ewing need the flat top as you said. Its like they focused all their effort int this mode making the Barkley model. Lucky for them they had 1991 or 1992 models for most of the team for 2K11 or 2K12 its just those few guys who they didnt work on that bring it down. Now im not down on the Dream Team mode hell im pumped for it but the models for those few players are the one thing that has annoyed me about this thing already.

I don't get why everyone's assuming Pippen won't be in the game at all. They only said he wouldn't be on the dream team. They didn't say that he wouldn't be on the classic bulls teams. I'm sure Pippen wanted more money to be on the dream team than the classic bulls teams because it was the greatest basketball olympic team in nba history. Maybe he thinks that being on the greatest basketball Olympic team in nba history is more significant than being on the classic bulls team. I just assuming that. But I really don't get why he wouldn't accept the amount of money 2k offered him. He filed for bankruptcy. But it also could be 2k didn't even try to negotiate with him to be on the dream team because they knew they couldn't afford to put him on the team because of all the money spent on Barkley and they already have him on the classic bulls teams. So maybe 2k thinks that people will just put Pippen on the dream team because they will allow us to do full customization for the dream team . But then again, i am just assuming this. Maybe Pippen would be mad if they put him on the dream team without giving him any money since they gave every other player money.

Maybe everyone should tweet @ScottiePippen telling him how you would like to see him in the game. Twitter is a powerful tool, maybe he gets the point and gets a deal done!
Scottie basically told Phil to go eff himself when Phil drew the last shot for Kukoc in the '94 playoffs against the Knicks. I'm sure he'd tell any Twitter peeps the same thing if they tried to pressue him with this.

Again....amazing announcement !
Kinda sad if you need the best team ever just to beat the Miami Heat...

And don't be surprised if they don't even ALLOW us to use them online in the first place

Gameplay improvements that traverse every mode in the game are more substantial than the inclusion of another classic team to play as. This is how some of us feel and why we were disappointed that the news was "simpler" than what we hoped for.

lol your sentence just translated to me as

"I won't do what you said. Instead I'll do you what you said."

You are going to learn the dribble stick by playing games or in practice it doesn't matter. It affects you. It affects how you play the game. It's going to impact your 2k13 experience no matter what.

2 olympic teams are not.

and I do know if enough about marketing to know if enough people are complaining about it, then it's not working. And the # of complaints seem to be growing...

Thank you Jay-Z for finally bringing Sir Charles to the 2k Franchise, now we need you to bring Barkley's legendary teams to the 2k Franchise! Just playing with Dream Team Barkley is going to get old quick. We need you HOV!

Meanwhile, I actually do think Karl Malone's pretty diesel. He was trimmer back then, but still a brick.

Lastly, I'm kind of curious how they'll handle the shoes. I imagine it'll be tough to outfit any of those guys unless 2K included each of their era-specific models. Even in retirement, I don't think it's free reign for 2K to place whatever sort of shoes they wish onto the feet of these players.
You might be right about the shoes, but that doesn't excuse 2K for using the same exact generic shoes from 2K12. They are ugly and distracting, and I really don't understand why 2K can't make a better looking generic shoe.

Man, why are folks bitching about generic shoes? 2K has had generic shoes forever. We've always had to put players in other shoes. Hell, as soon as I get my copy of 2K, the first thing I do is give players the proper shoes and accessories.

Yet the Dream Team still will not have all 12 players in NBA 2K13. 2K Sports and Scottie Pippen, who appeared on several classic Chicago Bulls teams the past two years, could not come to an agreement on the use of his likeness in NBA 2K13.

Again, Argent refused to say what kept the two sides apart but pointedly said "Scottie is a good friend of the brand; our relationship is on very solid terms with Scottie Pippen."

But I don't get it at all. would'nt Pippen accept the money they gave him since he filed for bankruptcy. He appeared in every 2k game I know of since at least 12 years ago. This doesn't make any sense at all.
