Well since my initial impressions on the 14th I've played several more games. I like what I'm seeing from the demo. I've adjusted the sliders, game speed, and I've got the game playing fairly good. I passed on NCAA 13 but I'll be picking Madden 13 up. The changes are positive enough to keep me happy for a year.

One thing I really love is if I make a bad call on defense I can get burned by the deep ball.

Played the demo for about an hour last night. Not sure what to say. But I like NCAA 13's feel, player weightiness, animations - practically everything better than this Madden demo. Disappointed - it seems like steps are being taken backwards. Just doesn't even LOOK LIKE NFL football being played. If you MUST get this game, then more power to you. But for guys like me who LOVE football, I'm having a hard time telling myself it will be worth it. I had higher expectations, but those were clearly dashed.

Yeah, I read it. I agree, it seems like madden has some 2k12 stuff in it. Psychic defense may not be gone after all, by the way the defense goes form blitz to zone when you audible.

Also Alex smith breaks a suspicious amount of tackles.

I agree. There's some nice things about the game (the Infinity Engine is raw but shows potential, passing is much better), but NBA 2K, FIFA and MLB The Show have just raised the bar and the EA football games just don't even come close.

The other games just ooze authenticity. I get lost in my own world playing The Show and NBA 2K. Madden, it always feels like I'm playing a video game. Connected Careers and our OS Vets online league will make the game for me, but the actual gameplay, atmosphere and presentation is just mediocre.

This game IMO must be played on Very Slow to get a truly better feel and experience for the RTP.

I played a game today and twaked the sliders on All-Pro, Very Slow and had an enjoyable game.

Again...it is a clumsy, sloppy demo but after reading here it is a old build I have lot's of hope EA is tuning this thing up to be much tighter for retail.

The game is fun. No doubt.

As far as sim.....no it's not there yet. However the new play by play is night and day and the best I have ever heard on a Madden game. I loved playing with RGIII....he is ridiculous on this game. I saw some insane tackles finally. I actually finally got nice wrap up tackles, some trip up tackles....a tackle where I held up Marshawn Lynch with a DE and my LB came in and cleaned up. There are definite moments when the IE shines and really feels great.

Felt good. I like the direction of the RTP.

Please EA.......execute on the retail. I know it's a new direction....but the engine has to be a lot tighter for retail release or there will be lynch mobs on these boards 8/28.

Meantime I am extremely stoked for CCM. I read the Manuel front to back....this looks like it is going to be a super deep franchise mode.

I just saw a super LB intercept a pass in the demo. That was a HUGE problem last year but its just the first time I've seen it. Still annoying though.

Had a bizarre and funny moment just a few minutes ago. In the Seahawks/Redskins game, I threw an corner pass to Santana Moss and caught it over the shoulder while being shaded by the CB. Both Moss' and the CB's arm got caught together and amazingly Moss tried to break free (previous madden wouldn't allow that to happen) and both Seahawk players collided and fell to the ground. That made me burst out laughing as I broke free for the endzone and somehow during my laughter I failed to see Fred Davis coming from my left and crashed into me. Moss fell to the ground and the play was called dead as no Seahawk player touched me.

That gotta be fixed if the play is going to be called dead on something like that.

All in all, I'm loving the physics engine as it really makes the game feel a whole lot more enjoyable and fresh. As for the psychic D, it's noticeable but not as bad as NCAA's is :/

I just played my first game (kept all the settings default)

I won 38-0 with Washington. I really like the presentation this year, leaps and bounds better than it was in 12.

As for the gameplay, it's definitely better. You can tell it's still Madden (twitchy kinda feel) but it's also easy to see that things are different. The infinity engine is really great, but it also makes things look kind of goofy and out of place sometimes.

All in all it's really fun and I'm definitely going to enjoy the game this year with some eventual difficulty and slider tweaks.

Also: I didn't see any issues with the lighting at Fed Ex like some of you had. I was able to easily distinguish both teams at all times.

As much as I love the NFL and want to play with my Eagles, I think my $60 will go to FIFA 13 this year. I think I've just had enough of Madden's legacy issues.

What are you talking about? Not many people are going to play with the niners as long as they have have Alex Smith. I only play with the 49ers (49er Faithful) and they have incredibly improved since madden 11 so I can't complain. But at the same time I rarely risk the deep ball using Alex Smith with only 87 throwing power and 74 deep accuracy. As for Moss, I don't know if you play on Pro settings but on All-Madden he drops everything and is very stoppable.

I've been playing on all pro with the user pass rush slider at 55 and the CPU pass block slider at 45. I'm getting realistic pressure and sacks. Results may vary based on user skill level.

Also the post to your FB page thing is nice.

Madden NFL 13
Playing with the 49ers, JMD defeated the Giants 24-10 on All Pro
The leading passer was Alex Smith with 138 yards, and the leading rusher was Frank Gore with 122 yards.

I just finished a game with the 49ers and Giants with some sliders i just made up and whooped the Giants 35-7. I'll give my sliders another go maybe about 3 or 4 games and make changes as needed. I just wish the difficulty would not change because it DOES seem easier. Before i messed with the sliders besides game speed and threshold my games were good battles but we shall see.

i have had every edition of madden since day 1 and i played the demo and liked it/ my biggest complaint has been online play and speed. The demo graphics and gameplay are very good can't wait to play with the cowbosys.

Without going through 171 pages, does anyone else have the issue where when you base align, the WRs end up WIDE open deep?

Every single time I base align, the corner runs in soon as ball is hiked even on clear passing play.

Happens when I do that and press coverage as well.

Madden 13 has officially got my attention. First crack at the physics engine and I thank you for putting it in this build. Gives me hope for the future... without getting into the techincal aspects of the game that has already been covered in this blog, Madden why can't the replay engine match that of NCAA? Much better replays is needed. I hate the same cut scenes over and over again. Capture the story behind the drive in the replays...

Please...

So I've played the demo more than a few times now and while there are quite a few small things I could touch on that add up to a huge difference (in my mind) I'd like to take the time to just give just one piece that sticks out to me the most.

Jim Nantz and Phil Simms.

Every madden game I've ever played I've always instantly turned off the commentary. More so over the last two years with the insufferable Chris Collinsworth giving his mentally handicapped drone another breath.

So this year I was taken aback by how it actually worked and didn't just sound like total nonsense and garbage.

Jim Nantz and Phil Simms aren't my choice for the commentators personally, I'd prefer to hear Kevin Harlan and John Lynch, but even then it's leaps and bounds better than any previous year.

This was my surprise with an overall good impression.

Actually I was worried there wasn't enough. I keep bumping INT slider up. So I don't believe there are too many at all.

I'm pretty sure it is.

-Hand fighting has anyone seem these new feature? Honestly

I've seen "some" but nothing major yet. Hope retail is more. however I have mainly been looking at other areas.

-Tebowing is included
Weee lol

-Play action avoid tigger or option when does this tigger. I have not had it happen with the Play action (All-Pro) default. Xbox or Ps3

RT when you want to abort. Works. Idf that's what you're asking...

-On every single play whom ever is running the ball is getting stripped, all the time really no one has paid attention to this?

Haven't seen that at all. I did change (raise) the fumble slider.

-Players falling on flat in there face after the pile up or even standing near it.Except for the Qb which i notice this when Eli got near a pile up and he just walked right by.

yeah some tweaks need to happen. But those with retail say it's not as bad.. We'll see.

-IE >Players Knee Anatomy and Physiology was not used properly, A humans knees cant bend all the way back in a violent way as i observed while playing MD13 Demo both systems.
The knee is the largerst joint in the body and is often the site of pain and injury. The joints is often made up of lower end of femur (thigh bone) and the upper end of the tibia (Shin bone). Now i will try to record a video using my ipad and post it, But Helu falls with his knees bend at 90 degrees already full force bounces on the ground and then guys fall on him. Lol i mean this is krazy a new engine with real physics...

Again first year but does need some tweaking. Love it more than what we had.

-Is the football spining correctly if your a righthanded QB? i saw some weird spin on a replay that looked reversed.

Never paid attention to this and probably never will.

-T.O. not in the Demo.... Lol
Demo was way done before the TO deal...
