I think the biggest shock to everyone here should be the fact that Viva La Vida and Amazing are in the soundtrack. Especially Amazing since it was already in 2K10. I thought video game companies didn't bring back old songs for new games in their series?

Oh and they announced 19 or 24 songs. So I guess we get 5 exclusive Jay-Z songs, which would only mean something in the Blueprint era. I don't think fans of 2k are really excited about hearing some new Jay-Z records these days. Now if Jay-Z managed to get Andre 3000 to record 5 exclusive songs, then I take back everything I said about Jay-Z's inclusion. I've heard BP3 and Watch the Throne (his most recent music) and NOTHING but maybe 3 to 5 songs were even decent. So if that's a future announcement, save it!!

So many times people get success a certain way and think they have to reinvent the wheel to maintain it and fall off. The answers to 2k13 have been in this forum for months (crew, better myplayer/association, passing update, stable online, more legend teams and more polish). Get with some of these roster builders and slider makers on how to make the game sim and voila a classic. I didn't go through the wishlist, but I'm almost certain NO FAN said they need to get Jay-Z involved to go to the next level. Once he's on board, 2k13 is a classic again lol.

I got no problem with it. Some people have that sense of entitlement to them and think they deserve to have their desires catered to above all else, like the big announcement would've had anything to do with some innovative gameplay thing that on average most people wouldn't appreciate or even understand.
But Michael Jordan on the cover, the greatest basketball of all time, of a basketball game makes sense to casual gamers and sim gamers. Brilliant!! Jay-Z makes sense where???? It's not like his albums are flying off the shelves. They should've gotten Lil Wayne instead, he's actually a real fan and moves more units himself and as a label head (even though I'm not a fan of his music).

See, this is why you don't say stupid crap like "biggest announcement in our history" or whatever if you're 2k games...Unless it's the procurement of a new league license (i.e. NFL), it's going to be disappointing. They had to know that, yet they hyped up this announcement like they thought people would be pumped. I can't imagine anyone, even casual fans, heck even huge Jay-Z fans, thinking this is some momentous announcement. 2k is officially in Peter Molyneux / Boy-who-cried-wolf territory from now on....Idiots.

Yeah, why would any consumer of a product think that they should have their desires catered to?

The point is the Jay Z would not put his name of crap, and coming from worse than nothing to who is is now says he is a smart business man, but sorry if that went above some our your heads, but until 2k releases more information about the improvements in 2k13 this is nothing more that the typical OS overrating over not hearing anything and everything in July -August.

I'm not sure anyone is suggesting 2K13 will be crap (or anyone being reasonable for that matter), so I'm not sure your point needed to be made in that regard.

Second, I'm still unsure what being a smart business man will mean in regards to his contribution (beyond music) to the upcoming video game NBA 2K13. I think we're all still wondering how exactly he's planning to make his presence felt. As such, again, I understand the skepticism. Further, many of us have risen to become admirable professionals ourselves, but that doesn't necessarily mean all of our skills would translate over to video game making. Folks are looking at Jay-Z's history as an entertainer and business man and wondering exactly how that ties in to 2K's forthcoming release (and then whether the tie-on makes sense or whether it's merely a branding situation).

We're at that point of the year where there's infinitely more questions than answers, so I suppose it's natural for people to ask away. We all know the answers are coming, but hype and hints will only fuel speculation in the meantime.

Okay it might be time to step away from the keyboard for a bit my friend. Starting to talk a little crazy here. If you don't like Jay or are underwhelmed by the announcement, cool, but let's try not to say irrational things. Jay sells what he does better than 2K sells what they do. In fact, I'm pretty sure that sales of the singles "Run This Town" "Empire State of Mind" and "N****s in Paris" has outsold 2K's last two games released. "Empire State of Mind" alone has sold at least 4 million copies. That's a single once again. Not an album, but a single. So yeah, let's think a little bit more before we type things.

do you guys really expect 2k to show gameplay on the first of august. We're probably going to see gameplay around september or later august. RIght now its the first of august.

I wish they could've gotten Dr. Dre instead. smh

# 332 MarvinOida @ 08/01/12 06:29 PM
I hope Jay-Z decides to make sure Justin Bieber is out of the soundtrack, if he does, BEST DECISION BY HIM AS EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, if not, I expect Single Ladies in the soundtrack.

Not only is it underwhelming, but Jay-Z strikes me more as an EA ploy, with their corporate sponsors that drive sales. If you're doing a lifestyle and soundtrack producer, go with someone more in tune with your core audience (e.g. Mos Def, The Roots, Just Blaze, 9th Wonder, Lupe Fiasco etc.). And after that, don't make a big deal of it because it's not. That should be the last dev insight after the game drops. Not even mentioned on the box.

Jay-Z hasn't been core to the culture since the Black Album (in a real hip hop head way). This screams of out of touch lames being infatuated with a celebrity. If he wanted to be involved, put his wack gear in as an option and let him tell his out of touch celebrity followers how sweet the game is now because an old washed up rapper is involved.

I'm so upset because I loved 2k and what it stood for in it's basketball game. All about the game and not about the splashy headline, or the hollywood features. It was core to what bball fans loved and cherished. Just having this guy involved almost ruins it. 2k was like hip hop and Live/EA was like rap (MF Doom Vs. Gucci Mane) and 2k was winning by sticking to the script. Soon as they win they go and get Jay-Z, who for the record hasn't done anything solid for real. What artist has he put on that's successful? (Kanye/Dame, Rihanna and Neyo/LA Reid) J.Cole maybe?? I don't see a ton of people wearing Rocawear anymore, but I'm sure our myplayers will now have it on in some fashion smdh.. Just all bad. I will buy the game because I love ball, but soundtrack and over exposed celebrity endorsement (non player) doesn't entice me to buy a game. ALL soundtracks are wack by month 2 anyway.
Lol that's funny

I haven't been following the 2k hypetrain, so personally, I don't mind this announcement. The soundtrack looks great, but I can definitely see where people that bought into the hype train would be disappointed.

Memphis Bleek albums, Young Guns albums, Rocawear, Armadale etc.. Seems like Jay-Z will attach his name to crap. But he's smart to partner up with the best basketball game going. Just sucks that this is somehow seen as any kind of real news. Even new Jay-Z songs aren't news these days. Unless Jay-Z discovered how to improve passing, myplayer, blacktop or association, I'm not sure what he can add that would get anyone excited. If Jay-Z managed to negotiate a deal with Barkley and Reggie Miller where 2k couldn't, then salute!!!

Glad that you didn't get suckered in....but seriously, when they say that it's the biggest announcement in the history of 2kSports, I don't care how reserved or skeptical you are, you HAVE to believe it's going to be something other than "Jay-Z is somehow involved in the game". Who is this supposed to impress? Even if you're a huge Jay-Z fan, he isn't a basketball player or coach and shouldn't be expected to bring any insight outside of what a dedicated fan would bring. I'd be more pumped up if they announced Larry Brown or Coach K were involved; at least we would expect that to translate into meaningful gameplay additions. All this does is bring some rap tracks to the soundtrack.

Honestly, this makes me LESS interested in 2k13. What am I supposed to think about the team's priorities? They are going to try to make the game more "hip hop" or "street"? NBA2k is rapidly careening down the road toward Maddenville...being the only game in town changes everything. And almost never for the better....

# 337 TreyIM2 @ 08/01/12 07:55 PM
They coulda got ME or some head down on a corner to pick the tracks and say, "Hey, slap dat clip of Blake dunkin on Perkins in there after that killuh cross over to spin and and-one reverse layup by Rose..." but what does Jay picking some previously made songs by he and others then inking him to 'executive producer' status really have to do wit the game of bball other than just a marketing move to try and induce more dollars from pockets?

Real talk, this bombed but I get what they were tryna do. Personally, all I wanna hear is that Master Mike Wang was able to fit the entire Live 10 control scheme as an alternate in this game. I think I will cry tears of, 'FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST...' of this dumb, unintuitive iso-motion bs so I can FINALLY, truly enjoy NBA2K and the rest of it's glory.

This soundtrack is going to be crazy, love the tracks they picked. Best soundtrack since 2K7.

# 339 Rondorampage9 @ 08/01/12 09:05 PM
I personally think this will be one of the best soundtracks 2K has put out.
