Madden NFL 13 News Post

It all seemed too good to be true.

Now after this week's bombshells that you cannot edit players in connected careers or play any other games in the mode other than your own, it seems like the Madden team is once again forcing you to play your game their way. To me, this is a huge problem. Others of you? Maybe not so much. But let's hear it: Has the 'closed' nature of Connected Careers turned you away and/or cooled your enthusiasm about Madden NFL 13?

Sound off!

It goes both ways, you can't appeal to everyone on everything. I have purchased 3 Maddens in my life. This is a year I feel like they listened for people like myself, the gameplay being addressed.

I also understand some of you don't believe its been changed for the better. But you are also the same people that have not played it yet, just like I haven't.

Basically my point is when you liked what you had and I was complaining the on field sucked.....people would say "its just a game enjoy it". Then they fix on field stuff (it appears) and I like what i see but features have been removed so those people who liked it before are now the ones complaining.

you think it's pathetic that a family who's used to playing the game together won't buy it because now they can't?

Statements like this

We have complained for years the game has remained the same. This year they made some big changes, granted some stuff was loss but they really tried to innovate a new feature is how it comes off to me. I don't understand the complaints of OH NO ITS NOT THE SAME GAME!

I am also the same person that has talked mad **** about EA football for years. I know several of the regulars around here will know this, but don't think I am some blind EA supporter. I just appreciate them trying some new things! Not saying I agree with the loss of every feature but I can live with the loss for a year or so for them to be reimplemented if the game plays better from here on forward!
The problem isn't that the game isn't the same, it's that they haven't added some of the most basic parts of an NFL team before doing so. I was extremely excited until the list of can'ts started coming out. Position changes, number changes, accessory changes. None of these things should break the game yet are very basic parts of the NFL. Every team has to change player positions. And go in a locker room and ask about numbers and accessories, real players care about these things for themselves so why shouldn't I. That is how I enjoy the game. It's fine that you don't need to have options, but I do. Madden is really the only thing I do in my free time year round. Now I'm without that enjoyment for at least a year, so it matters to me.

Woah what? Sounds like I'm not understanding this fixture thing, I haven't played a Madden in a long time.

What I think is pathetic is that people complain about the gameplay for Madden for such a long time, then this year they finally make some huge strides with the gameplay including real physics, which if done right has the potenial to be a game changer. Then because of a lack of some failry minor things decide they won't buy the game at all.

have you played the ncaa demo? wrs and dbs are not passive in that and that is because of the 400+ new catch animations. and the read and react defense ai has decreased the unrealistic plays by the defenders as has the new catch animations since they work both ways.

See I just can't wrap my head around this. You are welcome to feel the way you do. Trust me I sincerely feel that way, but to me this is just minor.

The MAJOR part of the game for me is the PLAYING part. Calling plays, moving my players around, making tackles, scoring TDs, sacks, etc. If that is improved I can live without the editing for a year or so

CC has nothing to do with game play improvements. I'm happy to see those. They didn't need to leave out basic functions to give better game play.

What may be fairly minor to you may not be to someone else. Despite the fact that I can't play offline franchise with my friends I am VERY excited for this game.

I'm not sure what you mean by fixture. But I don't think many people are really complaining about the gameplay stuff is more the off field control aspects over your roster and how you play franchise or CC. They've removed a lot of basic stuff that isn't minor at all to some people like said family that won't be able to play a career with each other on one console anymore

I was excited about Madden 13. This editing thing really bumped me back to a used or thanksgiving sale ($29.99) type buy.
if the game was made for the ps3 only that might have been an option. but not being able to use blu-ray for xbox makes that pretty much impossible. the disc space just isnt there.

I mean the ability to play other games of the schedule, we call it a fixture here. I'm clearly misunderstanding this part of it, what exactly is it?

150% agree Wheel. I said this yesterday it should of been held back till it was 100% working like it should. But that didn't happen is my point I guess

Everyone is different and everyone will rate features differently. I think calling people "stupid" and "pathetic" for deciding not to buy a video game that has taken away their favorite features is unfair. Also it's not just the player editing we have lost a lot of features. Personally, I am most upset about the loss of couch co-op and multiple team control in CC.

This pretty much ruins the game for people who share consoles and run franchises together. Couch co-op in Franchise mode is something I have loved using for the last 10+ years and I have no idea why it's gone. When I played Franchise mode on my own I'd get a few years in and get bored, but when I was playing Franchise mode locally we'd get several years into a Franchise. For me it's much more enjoyable to play locally with friends than it is to play alone or online, but that's just my opinion.

I still haven't decided what I'll do in August. Right now I'd say there is a good chance I'll pick up Madden 13 because some of the new features look enjoyable, but if continue to hear about more and more features being removed I could change my mind.

Yeah this is fair enough, I clearly misunderstand what this was. Like I said I haven't played Madden in a long time and living in Northern Ireland doesn't exaclty have anyone do co-op with, so that's why I didn't really understand.

Yeah I was right, but what I didn't understand was that this meant you could play co-op with people or whatever.

I'm certainly not happy about the news. It's more about how I handle incoming rookies from future drafts. I liked the fact I can edit names, jersey numbers, and schools to add character to teams and players. With no NCAA draft classes, the inability to edit is even more disabling as a player. I use the edit function to edit ratings too, if I feel like a player that was drafted is too high ... or too low.
I am very curious about how they are going to approach the draft with this limitation. I suppose they will have generic names and looks about them and the league will be populated with clones after about 7 years in the franchise.
I love the customization ability of my players in NCAA. I'll hours just editing freshman and molding a "team".

as upset as i am it has only cooled me down a bit. i cant play 12 anymore it's just frustrating as all hell so i'm still going to get 13 and see how all this works out. it had better be good though that's all i'm going to say.

# 160 CT Pitbull @ 06/13/12 06:57 PM
it doesnt turn me totally away but it does suck...i just hope the powers that be are reading and listening to this board and fix this for next year if not give us some options back this year via patch ... i hope they are not that dense or arrogant that they are not going to give us these options back in future titles because if that is the case...i WILL be totally turned OFF from this games future releases
