Madden NFL 13 News Post

It all seemed too good to be true.

Now after this week's bombshells that you cannot edit players in connected careers or play any other games in the mode other than your own, it seems like the Madden team is once again forcing you to play your game their way. To me, this is a huge problem. Others of you? Maybe not so much. But let's hear it: Has the 'closed' nature of Connected Careers turned you away and/or cooled your enthusiasm about Madden NFL 13?

Sound off!

This one statement sums up exactly how I feel. No question I've been disappointed in the recent news, but I'll overcome.

Like I said in a recent post, I loved my 2K5 franchise. In it, I couldn't edit players nor could I play other games. But I loved it no less, and it's probably the most I've been immersed in a football game.

Not that we should be moving backwards, but the joy I experienced w/ my 2K5 franchise lets me know that I can enjoy my M13 CCM as well.

As an aside, I was salty when we found out we couldn't play other games in CCM (and to a degree I still am). But I'm buying into keeping things authentic and them really wanting you to be so & so's head coach. Long as I can change coaches every offseason or so to keep my experience fresh, I'll manage to get by.

I think you will be able to just retire and come back .. not sure if you can just choose where you come back though ..

Not at all.

Turned me off to both NCAA and Madden as far as a purchase from EA. May pick it up months after, used. If these features are put back in next year, I'll be back on board.

No it is a topic called? "Has the closed nature of connected careers turned you off". I responded with NO and gave reasons. I know its hard to comprehend, but my response does not take away YOUR complaints, you have every right to feel the way you do. The same reason, I gave MY reasons.

Some of you and the attitude "IF YOU DON"T FEEL LIKE I DO, YOU ARE WRONG!"

I don't want this to come off the wrong way. I am also not talking about everyone, but some of you guys are sounding very stubborn!

Some of you sound like your mom always allowed you to eat candy with your dinner and then one day she gave you green beans. Then all hell broke loose because it was different than what you were use to.

We have complained for years the game has remained the same. This year they made some big changes, granted some stuff was loss but they really tried to innovate a new feature is how it comes off to me. I don't understand the complaints of OH NO ITS NOT THE SAME GAME!

I am also the same person that has talked mad **** about EA football for years. I know several of the regulars around here will know this, but don't think I am some blind EA supporter. I just appreciate them trying some new things! Not saying I agree with the loss of every feature but I can live with the loss for a year or so for them to be reimplemented if the game plays better from here on forward!

Definitely not.

Sure not being able to edit rosters is a blow to the game but I think all the other good/new stuff, more than make up for it.

Weezer wrote a song for us already. The chorus goes as follows:

I'mma do the things That I wanna do
I ain't got a thing To prove to you
I'll eat my candy With the pork and beans
Excuse my manners If I make a scene
I ain't gonna wear The clothes that you like
I'm fine and dandy With the me inside
One look in the mirror And I'm tickled pink
I don't give a hoot About what you think

Only slightly

Not at all. Personally, I have never controlled all 32 teams in a franchise because I like to focus on one team and think it's interesting to see what happens in free agency with the CPU. This year, you can progress players anyway you want, so editing is all but useless. I'm slightly disappointed that we can't play/watch any other games in the Connected Career that we don't control, but it doesn't make me hate the mode,\.

# 132 SteelerSpartan @ 06/13/12 06:13 PM
Man I can't believe EA has pushed me out the door like this, this year.....

Sadly Yes

We've had and loved some of these features for Years.....and a few more that we fought long and hard for.....They would have enabled me to truly love the additions they made

Now they're just throwing them aside like a chewing gum wrapper

And I think Ive just reached a point where Im tired of the utter Bull SH** with them always dividing the community and making segments pay a price every other year

Other Sports Franchises don't constantly do this with their Fanbases.... don't let anyone tell you different....This is not a Sports Genre Problem....IT IS A MADDEN PROBLEM

Moving Forward....Why should anyone believe these features will be quickly added back in????

From all the tweets,PodCasts, and insights from GameChangers whose talked about their Design Decisions.......IMO it seems like there will be more Restrictions on these features getting back into the game then ever

Book of Connected Careers Restrictions

I think we're going to get an endless barrage of

"We didn't have time for it this year"
"Well we'd like to do that in the future but"
"Look at what else we did"

year...after...year...after...year

And if I have the wrong impression then Looman or whoever needs to come forward an tell us different.....Like how they apologized for the audio last year and told us it was going to be a major priority for them

Stop laughing it off and blocking people on your twitter account who are concerned with these omissions

And as for 13 I pray whats in there works better then any other Sports Game Franchise Mode Ive ever seen and that your typical EA shenanigans of Bugs aren't running rampart...Lets just say I have my doubts

Otherwise the guys who can still enjoy the game are going to get mad too, making everybody feel screwed

# 133 Sanchez_Mareno @ 06/13/12 06:14 PM
Definitely not

# 134 stiffarmleft @ 06/13/12 06:19 PM
I guess I'm one of the oddballs, I'm not dissapointed in the least, as a strictly offline player, I'm actually encouraged that this means that they will pay more attention to the AI logic, gameplay and ratings so that mass editing is not needed. I understand the dissapointment and more options are better than not enough but if the gameplay is great and rating actually mean something, it will somewhat justify why they did what they did. I'm sure it will return next year, it's Madden after all.

# 135 OPDriver @ 06/13/12 06:31 PM
In a way, yes. The biggest thing, for me, is the arogance about the changes that have been made. Saying that "franchise is dead" and that change is good.

All the negative response from fans is just being thrown to the side and they are telling us that change is good no matter what. With EA past history of broken modes and bugs, CC better be the best mode of all sports games.

I just don't see how you can introduce something as promising as RTP and then just damper all the excitement about it with all these features being taken out.

Madden 13 was a first day buy for me last week, but now Im gonna hold off and see the reviews first. Crazy how much things can change in just a weeks time. smh

None of these have anything to do with what was lost. They would be there regardless of the long list of things lost.

Just because you do not care about editing much(and you have made that point over, and over, and over) doesn't mean some people can't feel it ruined the game and complain. After all, what other NFL game are they going to buy?

Just take a trip over to the editing thread. Other then like 3-5 of the same people posting (over and over defending this decision), most everyone else is at least pretty let down by this. A few didn't really care, but they at least admitted they felt bad for the others and understood how it could be a big deal for some, because they to had features important to them that have been removed over the years.

For the record, nobody knows if the new rtp is going to be a improvement. Nobody knows if CCM will in fact be better then franchise. What we know is EA says it will be and that a lot of features that we fought for here on OS the past few years have now been removed. How does one not feel a little cheated here? What exactly is there to defend? You like rtp, and tweets, we get it and that is great. Now how about a little understanding to the people who like editing, creating rosters, adjusting abilities for realistic play, changes numbers, creating rookies, etc......

Sorry, I'm trying to look at it from both sides, but I really do have to agree with the 75-85% of the people here who are upset at EA's decision on this. It is their right to be upset, and if they are expected to just accept it, think again. Not even the way America was built to be!

I'll be posting on this issue until it is restored, period. Don't like it? Just hit the ignore post button on me. I'm cool with that.
No wheel you are misconstruing my points. I have stated and defended people such as SteelerSpartan and Aholbert for being pissed about the stuff being removed. I agree it is not a good move.(I have stated plenty of times in several threads now, I support those guys on that stance)

What I don't understand is the people complaining about the game "changing". There have been a number of people upset that things are different. This makes no sense to me when many of us around here have complained it is "ALWAYS THE SAME GAME WITH 1 NEW FEATURE AND A ROSTER UPDATE" Then we get a year where they dropped a bunch of new stuff, really seem to try and turn the game around but that gets completely over shadowed.

I think it is the case of "I want my cake and eat it too". We can't have everything granted, I agree the removal of features is horrible and should not happen. But to complain the game remains the same and then when it changes to complain about that............come on!!

You, me, no one has a slight clue what connect careers did to prevent editing. Those above listed features don't have anything to do with what was removed you are completely correct. It is what makes me want to buy it finally, it appears many on field problems have been addressed.

# 139 moylan1234 @ 06/13/12 06:37 PM
Because some of us don't believe it's been changed for the better Phobia and also some of us weren't asking for massive changes in the first place. It's convenient to say that those who are unhappy now were the same people asking for a change like this, but it's just not true

# 140 MattyEdgeworth @ 06/13/12 06:39 PM
I don't really care at all, no player editing is a bit **** but hasn't turned me away. Why does it matter that much that you don't get to play other fixtures?

I think its just stupid that people would decide to not buy the game because of this, I would even call it pathetic.
