The passing is a lot smoother, but I also had zero problem passing last year. My worry this year is that while passing got better, CPU defense got worse. In every gameplay video released by EA and in every demo game I've played, there are horrible problems with CPU pass defense that make it incredibly easy. Among the problems are:

- In Cover 2 Man, safeties get to their assigned spot and freeze. They don't get as deep as the deepest and by the time they react, the WR has 10 yards on him and the man coverage is on an island. Post/Corner/Streak routes have been wide open for me almost every time.

- In Cover 2 zone, the problem is the same except when the underneath zone hands the WR off to the deeper zones, the safeties don't run with him until it is way too late. And with the way you can precisely control the passing game, it is MUCH easier to just throw over the top and own them.

- Hook zones are improved in that defenders pick up guys as they enter the zone, run with them through the zone and hand them off. But there have been two problems I noticed. 1) Occasionally the guy will never hand him off and will run with him, turning it into basically man coverage and leaving an area of the field wide open, or 2) The guy in hook zone will move to cut off the WR's route before he runs it. Which takes me to...

- Psychic defenders are still in the game. However instead of being psychic in man coverage, they are psychic in zone. Zone defenders automatically hedge their positioning on plays like slants and in's because they know it is coming, even before the WR breaks out of his route. This isn't the worst thing in the world but I could see it being a problem. I personally just rationalize it by saying it is good coaching and they picked up a formation tendency or a tell in a WR's footwork. Obviously that isn't happening, but it makes it better in my mind.

- Cover 3 Zone has a few problems. First, the outside zone defenders seem to latch on to guys coming off the line of scrimmage from time to time. Taking them WAY out of position. I first saw this in the gameplay video EA released a few weeks back where a touchdown was scored because of this problem. The option glitch from last year still remains for Cover 3. The hook zones slide like it's a foosball table and the outside CB stands still. Unlike last year, they do react once you cross the line of scrimmage. Too late though.

I love the feel of the passing game from the offensive side. It'll take a lot of getting used to and really love some of the QB animations like on Z Spot or off play action, but the CPU defense side of the passing game is terrible and is going to lead to some significant problems in the game if it isn't tuned.

I noticed that too. It always happens right at the end of a play.

Honestly, I'm that excited about this game and it's usually one of like three games I buy a year.

It's the same game they just added some window dressing.

I'm going to run a few games later, probably one with each team, and list the pros and cons I noticed in each of them.

One thing I got really excited about earlier was a helmet catch made by one of my receivers. The receiver went up high for a ball, got hit as soon as he made the catch and started losing it on the way back down. He then pressed the ball against his helmet and made the catch.

Something that did disappoint me was poor defense on a option I ran inside the 5 yard line. I ran it and the corner covering me came to a dead stop and let me run right by him before chasing me.

My first time playing any ncaa game. I love it! It's so smooth!

Just had an illegal touching called on a WR, never had that happen before.

3rd andlo g and just as I'm about to nail the QB with my DT he chucks to a guy I see coming from what looked like out of bounds. Pretty cool.

Players "warp" too much

I do like the ESPN bottomline, the updates, and the new overlays. Also the crowd atmosphere is much improved. The new passing mechanic is alright and the catch animations are better.

I'm torn on what I'm going to do this year

And (VERY important): if the cpu AI playcalling isn't fixed, this game will be a joke. 3rd and 14 and they run a running play up the gut?? I'm reading that some like the ball physics, but will admit I think it's a bit too floaty...

Right now, I'd give this game a 6.9 out of 10. It's just not that good, and much more of the same stuff. Really on the fence on this, and in reading the roster information, those guys will have a TON of work to do on them to even make this game remotely resemble real college football ratings.
I'm with you guys. I played 12 today and outside of a few things, I didn't notice a difference at all between the game and the 13 demo.

I do like the recruiting changes, and we can't see that in the demo.

MK, I'm with you on the CPU AI. I know it's Varsity, but I've yet to give up a single point. Too easy to shut down the run and while the CPU passing game is OK, way too many INTs.

ND, not sure what I'm going to do, either. The practical side of me says stay with 12 as I've got a great set of sliders and an edited roster that I've yet to use in Dynasty. Hopefully that side wins out over the guy that reads Day One impressions and buys the game because of early hype.

I'm so glad they turned the Slant OUT hot route into a whip route. So sick of no skill cheezers abusing that crap.

Also, they need to fix the left ILB's play. He has no regard for play direction and keeps attacking into the right (from the viewer's angle) A/B gap area. Even when I user him he always take 3 or 4 steps there.

Overall, I feel it's an improvement from 2012.

The audio is off. Touchbacks go to the 25 not the 20. Shootout at 17-0? Announcer says tied at 28 at when score is 35-35 I hope that stuff get fixed for the retail.

The game looks good, plays good ... but I don't see really any differences from NCAA 11 or 12.

I want t see the Broadcast camera added back to this game. I just do not see why this can't be done. The last time that camera angle was in the game ,was back in Ncaa 06....... the last year I truly enjoyed this game.

Meh....

Yes, I am buying day 1, but not going to be on the hunt for getting it early like I ALWAYS am.

Of course, we are not seeing the full game yet, but Im just not as excited as I usually am for this years game.

Play NCAA 12' til Madden 13 comes out. Then buy and play Madden 13 and wait to see what NCAA 14 is like.

I may just do that, although I'd still continue to play NCAA 12 even after Madden 13 drops.

You are or you are not that excited about it?

Can someone explain to me why Alabama is 4-3 and Oregon is 3-4 in the demo? Hoping that's a demo-only error.

Also, after 6 games I havent had a cpu 4th down at my own 35+, can someone tell me if the AI still attempts ridiculously long field goals they come up 10 yards short on? Thanks

Oh and is speed threshold at 100 or what? Danthony Thomas seems about as fast as Zach Mettenberger lol

I already paid $60 for NCAA 12, why would I pay another $60 for the exact same game with a new patch? This is the absolute laziest I've ever seen developers get with a franchise. I have been really turned off from buying anything EA. Probably won't buy another CFB game until they no longer have the sole rights to NCAA.

The demo isnt enough information to base this on. If a lot of the bugs in 12 are fixed, especially with regards to online dynasty, I'll be happy. Would have liked to have seen the adjustments not be as cheesy though

After playing the demo for a couple of days and then going back to my OD for NCAA 12, I really do like the way the demo plays. I can only hope it will play even better on slow speed, re-rated rosters, and some slider tweaks.

With how limited Madden 13 is, it is NCAA 13 or bust.

# 959 NDAlum @ 06/12/12 06:21 PM
BTW...

Are they EVER going to fix the pursuit angles?

# 960 ch46647 @ 06/12/12 06:25 PM
I turned auto sprint off in the demo. However, I cant feel any difference when I hit the sprint button or not. Is this toggle just not working in the demo?
