NCAA Football 13 News Post

For years, the NCAA Football series has sold well and enjoyed great reviews.

But this year, it feels like the tides of public opinion have shifted, and a series that once seemed immune to criticism is now subject to a growing wave of discontent. It doesn’t take more than 5 minutes in the OS forums to see that dedicated sports gamers have a whole laundry list of complaints and suggestions.

In this article, I discuss five things that the NCAA Football 13 team could do to restore gamers’ faith in the series.

The number of people you describe would likely number in the thousands at best, for a title that sells millions.

When you just blatantly make stuff up, sorry but yeah, it completely detracts from your point.

keep the senior year intact, but then allow us to up our points further with skill drills pertaining to our position

get rid of the one game boosts on the 360, and get more career boosts, unlock master of everything, the rarity level 5 one in our junior year

6. Release the exclusive rights and let 2K have a crack at it.

lollll....basically saying without any surveying, sales data, or PSN/Xbox network data, I'm pretty sure that 750,000 people have downloaded a roster with adjusted ratings lollll....

real talk tho, you can't judge how the fanbase feels about a game by saying "i've seen alot of people ask for rosters online". The number of people who come online and complain about the game or even read patch details or even request changes to the game is VERY VERY small compared to the whole group of people that buy it. The average user really can't tell the difference between the 08 version and the 12 version.

I mean, at most, when you're on OS, you have conversations with the same 50 to 100 people (if u bounce around between the Madden and NCAA thread) and maybe that increases to 150 once you factor in the baseball and basketball threads. NCAA 11 sold 850 thousand copies last year. Are there even 20,000 people on here asking for the things we're asking for?

Release? lollll...they bid on it. That's a cash cow. I dont even know how it's legal, to pay for the sole right to make a "simulation" of something but it is, I guess. The only way that exclusivity ends is if A) The game stops sellign [highly unlikely] or B) the NCAA ever feels that their sport is being represented poorly or inaccurately. I don't kno why both NCAA and the NFL think its better to let one entity represent them in the video game world. I think it's better that multiple groups have an opportunity to replicate the leagues, more exposure.

They don't have the NCAA license to themselves, just the NFL which makes making a NCAA title financially feasible.

I would like to see the lag fixed at the custom playbook and custom sub formation screens. I takes forever to load either and move around in them. Also for dynasty, I'd love to be able to control the weather for just my home team games. For the last 3 releases of this game it rains in Tiger Stadium basically EVERY game. It rarely rains in Tiger Stadium during the season. I can only remember maybe twice in the last 5 years that we had a rain game. EA just because Louisiana is in the Gulf South, does not mean it rains every day. I hate having to wait for the commentary just to quit and restart to get a non rain game. I wouldn't mind it if it was every now and again. But for almost every home game it rains. I'm tired of it. Let us at least control home game weather ourselves.

Real refs like FIFA (B1G conference refs ect.)
Real fight songs/td sounds/crowd chants and jeers (updated stadium atmosphere)
PI
Flags being thrown that you see on the screen
Pass trajectory

The bolded things are really secondary right now, they would be awesome and cool to add...the problem is that they need to fine-tune and correct the gameplay before they start fluffing up the presentation. I can deal with subpar presentation if they can put excellent gameplay in.

I think the problem is EA sees presentation differently than the rest of us. They seem to think presentation comes in the form of pre-animated cut scenes, for example; the tunnel walk, the pre-game stretch/huddle, the handful of canned fan cut scenes, the in-game highlight package that interrupts the game around the 3rd quarter, the end of game animations, etc.

The problem with that being, it is the same handful of cut scenes every time and we end up advancing straight through them because it is pointless. It is the same with commentary for me, I've turned it off the last few years because it hasn't improved.

For the rest of us, presentation is supposed to be the passive stuff that is happening as the game goes on. Crowd noise, sideline interaction, stadium and band music. I suppose most of us would call that 'atmosphere'. The NCAA series has struggled since it began in bringing an authentic feeling atmosphere, but frankly, it took a huge step back this year. Crowd noise is non-existent, there are major glitches with stadium sounds (not stopping, stopping and not playing again all game, lag), the sidelines are still pathetic looking, Home Field Advantage is inconsistent and poorly designed, etc.

Those are the things this game needs to improve on, first and foremost. Frankly, I would say even before gameplay (minus fixing glitches). I want to take a team into a night game at Tiger Stadium and be scared out of my damn mind. Sound needs to rise and fall mid-game and even mid-play. For example, if I break a big run at home, I want the crowd jacked up as I run down the field and the sideline to erupt waving me on, jumping up and down, ball boys chasing the play, etc. I won't buy a disc/memory space argument here, it just doesn't fly, I've seen what a PS3 and 360 can do with much more dynamic environments than that.

If I take the ball on the road and march down the field and score, I want to hear the home crowd quiet down. If I am a big time school that travels well, I want more representation there. If it is a championship/rivalry game, I want that place deafening. I've been on the sidelines for really tight games and rivalry games, the sound is buzzing in your ear.

And all of these things should be tied to what is happening on the field. Certain things should be dynamic, down to the side of the field you pick for the 2nd/4th quarter and overtime (crowd noise) to taking the ball first if you're looking to take a home crowd out of it. Obvious key situations (late 3rd and 4th downs, field goals, etc) should be fired up. If necessary, tie crowd intensity to the fan base rating.

So the top five things to improve NCAA to me are:

1. Interactive crowd noise
2. Interactive sidelines (tie no huddle into this as well, that way we can sub, get guys in and out)
3. Dynamic game situations (make the coin toss matter, make mistakes snowball on people if they don't adjust)
4. Improve stadiums visually (compare crowds in The Show to crowds in NCAA, just sad... lighting and colors have been off as well)
5. Improve the sound mix (crowd noise/PA is so distant while stadium sounds/band music and field noise is shoved down your throat like it is right next to the microphone)

Some of these things are tied to gameplay, others are not. Either way, atmosphere has to come first once game glitches are fixed.

Also, to add to atmosphere, make weather and game time in dynasty mode customizable. I am tired of playing as a southern state team and having it rain 9 games a year.

And while we are on the subject of rain, people don't slip and fall like they do in the game. And if they did, it should be equally spread across ball carriers and defensive players, not just WR's falling down like idiots. Come to think of it, defensive players are more likely to slip and fall than offensive because offensive guys know where they are going.

I keep forgetting to bring this up, probably because it seems so obvious that I figure many people already have. But since it's been an issue for at least three years now, I'll just say it. Can EA please fix the man coverage alignments out of the 3-3-5?

And that glitch where on certain plays one of the DB's runs 70 yards downfield to his own endzone pre-snap like a lost, frothing idiot.

More playable camera angles.
Adapting plays from one formation to another.
Different commentators.
Fans rush the field after a major upset.
Adding to your staduim...

*** Main reason I want to have create a play.
** Definitely want to see this happen.

I think they need to have tiburon have tandem developement with both teams being intergrated for madden and Ncaa football. it's like the left hand don't know what the right hand is doing. they need to make sure every feature, attribute, tendency, physics, ai, & presentation is matched in each title so we have no glitches like the freakish draft class player bodies you get from importing an Ncaa football draft class into madden. Also player names need to match the pronouced last names and fictional team names databases should match up for the two EA football titles.

Most people would agree with you but I think NCAA 11 was a great game. I think the reason 12 isn't so good this year is because they did exactly what your suggesting. They made almost the exact same changes that madden made. To me, that took away from what NCAA a better game than madden the previous year.

Long time lurker, but recently joined,

I read most of this thread & so much of this is true, & I think we all want this game to truly evolve & it has not & yet we still support it, because we have no other option & we are so passionate about our schools , programs, or just the game of football.

I think NCAA/ ea should utilize Forza method & goto a two disc model,
Put all of the stadium assets & extra game modes on a disc that we can load on the hard drive, things like dynasty & play creator could be fully fleshed out & really bring this game into the next gen finally.

A sim/ arcade button or slider should be added, and done correctly, arcade would be more pick up & play for the young kids & casual gamers who don't know football & want the more "street" type of gameplay
Sim would be us older players, who want the RPG/AD/ what we see on Saturday type of gameplay & control over it.

The data disc(2nd) would be huge for this game.

I play skyrim & I love it, it is truly remarkable what they do in that game, but at no point are there 22 hi res characters on screen interacting together & a dynamic environment playing out around it & tracking each characters stats & logging them. I say that to say I know that doing a college football game the way we want is a tough task, but so much more is possible than the effort we have been getting.

I'd love to test for ea, I'd put in 40-60 hours a week, to help this game be as good as possible.

Its not just the 3-3-5 your players never align up on man defense if you have a DB covering the HB he stays way outside on the opposite field instead of lining up with him. Its completely broken.

1)- 4) Release a game that works and will not crash our systems. If the game lacks stability to the extent that 12 does it becomes almost unplayable.

5) Kindly do not "patch" the game and break it if you do manage to relaese a stable game.

"3D grass", stadium sounds, dynasty, team builder, mocapping cheerleaders, blah blah blah are all only as worthwhile as the basic game if the game doesn't function all the "features" are just farts in the wind.
