NBA 2K12 News Post

NBA 2K12 Patch 1.03 has been released for the PS3. (The XBOX360 patch is coming soon).

Here are the official patch notes:

GAMEPLAY
  • On-dribbler steal success rates have been tuned down.
  • Tuned accuracy of directional passing in order to more reliably pass to the intended target.
  • Improved help defense, specifically for rotations on pick-and-roll situations.
  • Defensive tuning on 3PT shots to reduce the success of contested threes.
  • Addressed an issue on drives to the basket where the help defender wouldn’t fully engage in the double team
ONLINE
  • Several matchmaking optimizations have been made in order to help users get into games quicker. This will reduce the amount of time the “Searching For Opponent…” screen is displayed for.
  • Addressed a number of network errors that would cause games to end prematurely.
  • Addressed an issue in Team-Up where certain conditions would lead to a player standing idle for prolonged periods of time.
  • Corrected a Win/Loss streak tracking issue such that the “Back to Back to Back” achievement/trophy will now unlock at the proper time.

The patch notes doesn't say they toned down 3 point shooting but that they improved the effectiveness of D on 3 pointers.

I played a lot of online games. On-ball steals are tougher to do now but when playing against a skilled cheeser with a team like GSW you still have to work really hard to protect the ball.

The defensive rotation is much better, I usually denied the ball to all 3 point shooters and played tight on ball and turned down help D under 30. After the patch I tried with auto settings and the D was a lot better, the 3 pointers are under control. Was also able to use the quick strategies because of that and thats great! Game feels much more sim on ranked now, still needs a lot of improvements but we are getting there.

On the other hand they haven't corrected the midrange J success and because of that mid game is still the best way to go if you want an easy win. Just run left and right till you have a little space for a jumper and you will dominate with players like Curry, Pierce etc ...

this is great 2k. i really appreciate it. But please fix the frame rate problem soon. The game lags when I'm playing offline. That's not supposed to happen. But thanks for what you've done so far!!!

Yo i need more details... how often are you disconnecting from online games. is the team up getting to the game with full 10v10?

Happy to hear about because I lost a few games because of the stealing spam and three point shooting.

No disconnect in 15 games. I don't play team up.

im hearing a lot of people saying that contested 3s and 3s in general have been toned down.. do guys know if its just contested 3s or contested shots in general? cause contested mid range and 3s needed to be toned down, not only contested 3s

Sadly I think midrange is still where it was. Kobe, PP, especially players with high SIT and MID are dominating.

Yuo but the most frustrating ones are the likes of Melo and KD. Now I know they hit a lot of contested jumpers in reality. But when your oponent has 40 plus field goals attempts with any player its just not fun. But then again why wouldn't they do it in the present state of things. You don't even have to know how to play the game, you just have to learn the release of the one good player and bomb away with him ...

Yeh but sadly most people were complaining only about 3 pointers. They will notice the midrange only when those are toned down ...

still cant call screens while offball. this is a huge issue

We used to complain that people weren't taking midrange jumpers in 2k online and now we are complaining that they make too many mid j's. I'm happy to see people actually taking them in a game for once imo. I had a bigger problem with fadeaways being more successful than they should be (Pre-patch on the 360) than I did with straight up mid j's.

Don't touch the mid-range imo, I think it's perfect. Just need to adjust how many 3s the cpu takes and would rather see more drive and pull-up mid-range Js than the number of 3s I'm seeing by the cpu.

This is a good patch and this is the reason I will play again =).

???
All we want is balance of the two not one dominating another. In the past, scoring in the paint dominated and shooting(3pt) was nearly impossible to make but now jumpers dominate and slashing is gone. We can't even blow pass the D( Don't even mention the cheesy spin off. ) with ultimate slashers like MJ, Clyde, Dwade using their quickness and crossovers.
