Another thing i like is how Bron was patient with the ball and did dribble moves to get a clear space for a shot... did it real calmly too

and Dirk is butter... post game is waxy its so smooth

First game was a success. Won by one.

Did Dirk's one legged fadeaway.

Defense stepped up INCREDIBLY. I cut off LeBron several times with Caron Butler off that LT+RT+movement that they discussed in the earlier insight where you could cut him off if he's running directly to the post. Putting hands up anywhere you want to also works wonders.

Did a CLEAN alley oop from Fernandez to Butler.

CPU only dunked once, off a LeBron pumpfake to a clear open Haslem, who looks MUCH better this year...him AND Eddie House. Player models are GREAT.

Wet a 3 with Jason Kidd, shooting seemed simple enough. Also did the walk animation. Beautiful.

Had a 3-on-1 fastbreak with me, Fernandez and Tyson Chandler. I'm coming up bottom left, Fernandez upper right, Chandler coming straight down the court. Passed to Chandler right at the end of the cut. Chandler did a simple, sweet throw in right over Chalmers. Felt the bump on my controller from contact, but of course, size advantage. Very nice! No stupid animation!

Dirk was VERY hard to use the first game for me, probably because I was trying the new post system and just couldn't get it down the first try.

Very impressed the first game!

-Post game is jawdropping (so many combinations)
-At times i saw Chalmers pass out even when open for a 3
-I got more offensive rebounds in a 4 min game of 2k12 than i did with a 10 min quarter 2k11 game lol
-Gameplay is definitely smoother
-Driving to the rim isn't as easy as it was in 2k11

Well it's just the demo, meaning it's an old build from a fee months back. When the retail version is out you too will forget a out 2k11.

Played one game so far, seems positive so far

Only complaint is that I had LeBron morph through the back of Kidd (who was boxing him out) for a putback dunk.

The throw the ball ahead animation to push up the floor looks great. CPU pushes the fast break very often, mainly by throwing some good outlet passes.

Those wondering about the hands up animation on defense, if you're using hands up on a guy it's really easy to get beaten. You can move around with it but you're at a significant disadvantage if you try to move with it.

Wade seemed to take his FTs about a foot behind the FT line.

We aren't expecting it to be (in your words) INCREDIBLY better than 2K11...

...in the OS review they stated that it wasn't going to be ... it was to be more polished w/ the addition of the extra legends, teams, create-a-shot, Steve Kerr, and a lil' more.

I'm pumped ... 2K11 was GREAT and I wouldn't think it could get any better, but from what I'm hearing...I'm ready!

The game's looking like a more polished, refined 2k11. And by that i mean, it's looking great.

But seriously 2k, ONE f'n 4 minute quarter? At least give us a half.

BTW, if Y is now to post up, how do you execute a signature dribble/gather?

I'm sure this demo is on the default setting but I have noticed that the heat play more to there stars this year with lebron and wade killing me in the demo

The momentum jumpers are so smooth and quick. It's nothing like 2k11.

Impressions

WE ALL know what the game does good already and the demo of NBA 2K12 only shows more impovement in those areas. ESP AI as i saw some very intelligent play making on their side...

I want to focus on things i feel could have been improved after having them improved through edits over the years. And before you go and say anything about it just realize I play these game to anaylze what can be fixed with attributes and have a fun time seeing why they have or have noy fixed certain things that in actuality are easy to fix on their end if they just thought about it more...

Players on offense and defense have a bit of an exaggerated acceleration to them, so claims of silky smooth game play are not correct.

When a player speeds up or down there are no animation "catches" to stop the transitions properly making for hiccups in player movement. I might be nitpicking but I edited this out back in 2k10 by making sure top speeds didn't interfere with starting and stopping of dribbling, defensive maneuvers etc .

Players still do not transition fast enough when they gain possession of the ball off a rebound or fast break. Dirk for example on one play slowly prodded along when I know the real Dirk would of been on his heels for that dunk!

Again something that edits though attribute tweaks and sliders have fixed.

As far as cosmetic changes I would of liked to see better shoulder models. The way MLB The Show has the dinosaur arms (or had them) NBA 2K12 has the too thin arms and bulky shoulders look...
As far as controls I MISS how it was in NBA 2k7 on defense. Defensivly you could lock onto a player. If you lock on to a player animation wise it looks better rather than being beat because there is no animation that sees the player lost or broken still..

BUT the games great. It nails a lot right and it looks and feels smoother than the retail did last year...

Alright, second game, I lost by one.

First play, got blocked, LeBron gathered the rebound, THREW to Wade, tapped Y with Fernandez to dunk which actually made him do a HUGE leap for Wade and Wade just crushed my spirits. Ha! I'm surprised going for that block made Fernandez jump so high and actually AIM for the ball!

Second thing I noticed was on offense, I was sizing up Haslem with Dirk, took a clean jumpshot over him and as it rolled around for about one second, I got an Over The Back with Chandler...something that never really happened that clear for me in 2K11. As soon as I tapped Turbo + Y to rebound, LeBron was in front of me and sold it well. I also still got the points for Dirk's shot.

Wade was MURDERING me. Him, Chalmers and Mike Miller...why? Every single time there was a loose ball, Chalmers and Miller DOVE for it. Literally EVERY possession. There was an inbounds play where everyone was locked defensively and they could only throw to Haslem. CPU tipped it with Dirk. Fernandez goes FLYING. EVERYONE is scrambling. Ball ends up under the hoop where Wade and two defenders are, I think it was Chandler and Butler. Wade grabs the ball, does a turning pump fake but saw everybody, THREW it out to Chalmers and Chalmers wet the 3.

Beautiful...

Within the last seconds I was down 4, and with Intense D, I was able to block Wade with Dirk as he ran directly into the post (Kidd was with me as well), threw out to Caron Butler as he beat Mike Miller to the other side of the court, did a sweet little step into his 3 pointer instead of a bare jumpshot and WET the 3 pointer!

Looked great!

Momentum jumper, like dribbling hard to the rack and pulling up while the defender is still running??

Sweet!!! Downloading on xbox 360. Just navigate to nba 2k12 and press get trial in the game marketplace. Definitely will be back after a few play throughs to leave my impression of the demo.

The crowd sounds better to me although I hit a buzzer shot with Rudy and no reaction. Overall though they do sound better than 2k11.

Pros:
  • Awesome presentation
  • Controls are much tighter
  • Jump shots are buttery smooth
  • Post up game is serious business this year
  • Covering LeBron or Wade is scary this year
  • Contact animations LOTS OF THEM no such thing a easy layup in crowd as getting contact slightly alters shot
  • Losing to a DEMO
Cons:
  • Dallas only playable team
  • NO TWO PLAYER OPTION
  • No play call system
  • Defense rotation seems all over the place to me

Tossup:
  • Crowd noise (sounds much better than last year) still has that bug where the crowd does not react after something big happens

# 59 RubenDouglas @ 09/20/11 06:21 AM
I still feel out of control. I guess I need more time on the game.. Seems so similar to 2k11 controls wise.. Fastbreaks seem to happen far and few between. CPU players are on a turbo boost to get back. My players not so much.. WIth that said, Im seeing lots of positives out of AI

More fouls
CPU had a 3sec call
CPU had reach in fouls when they wouldnt have happened last year
CPU bit on a three point shot. 3 FTs
CPU got an off. foul as I took a charge

Definitely many things you tried very hard to get right via slider changes that are already here in 2k12..

Ill have to work through the controls though..

# 60 dojam @ 09/20/11 06:21 AM
Got Dirk with the Hot symbol, guess what? They put Lebron on him, Dirk just couldn't get open for the shot.

Sweat...
