I think the camera is just farther back. Players look the same size to me.

Liking the demo so far. I cant remember if this happened before, but when I change the sliders and go back to game options the skill level goes to rookie from all pro.

I know its only a demo and the game is weird with no commentary, but the game doesn't play as well as NCAA and the player models only look good when close up. Right now all the players look very similar in size in the standard camera view, which isn't the case in NCAA. Im going to get some rest and put fresh eyes to this later.

note: looks like the demo doesn't have the updated rosters as stated in the article.
Agreed the player models only looked good close up and in replays very disappointing.

I wish they would let us change the camera in the demo. I can't get into the game with the view from the blimp. Seeing the entire field is not a good thing in my opinion because you can't see the entire field when playing real game.

Hopefully I can find the game to rent when it comes out.

After one game. Me: GB All-Pro

Game is pretty. Colors aren't too cartoony. Maybe a little too vibrant but, better than washed out imo. Players are scaled and modeled well. Not all big and bulky like NCAA.

Had to up cpu QB pass block. Sacked Cutler first 3 pass attempts. Blocked better with just a couple of clicks (52).

Cutler must have the tuck and run trait. Ran too much, i.e. no real pressure. Almost like QB draws. Much too fast. Defense reacts too slow to running QBs.

Someone said play action was automatic sack. Not seeing it. First 4 passes were PA and had plenty of time to throw.

Run game is good. Like NCAA.

Receivers will jump/make a play on the ball.

Blocked an extra point.

Zones improved. Very much like NCAA.

Matthews is a beast. Hair looks awful though.

May give Gameplan a whirl this year. Seems improved. Like how you can change plays.

Strat pad still blows. Will take some getting used to. Can't really make adjustments as teams are coming to the line of scrimmage. As soon as you touch the strat pad the cpu team is at the line of scrimmage.

Either I'm doing something wrong or quick audibles aren't working properly.

Wish they had NCAA style playcalling in the hurry up.

Cpu snaps the ball immediately unless there's motion. ( I understand this will be fixed.)

Less blow up tackles than NCAA. DB's aren't standing backs up and stonewalling them.

Defensive linemen can make moves without getting tossed to the ground a la NCAA.

Presentation and crowed noise are awesome.

Ins from the ai over the middle work way more then i would like.

Leaping LB's and CB's knocking balls down without looking still happen to much. Fix it EA!

Welp I played one game as GB on All-Pro. Not impressed.

1. The animations are horrible. When QB's throw the ball, as they wind up, the ball actually leaves their hands and ends up on their KNUCKLES, then back in their hand, then the ball is in mid-air before the forward motion completes. Explain to me how this gets by QA?

2. The game feels more arcadish than previous years.

3. I kicked a FG and it was good, but I didn't get 3 points, I got no points.

4. I threw a long pass to Jennings on a streak route, and he didn't even turn around to look for the ball. Not only that but the ball MORPH'd through his back and into his hands.

Thats enough for me to decide on my purchase. I understand Franchise mode got an overhaul this year, but if the gameplay and animations are bad then it kinda makes it pointless.

Really? I ain't had that problem so far. It could be glitch in your demo version. But my settings stays the same throught the game.

Set your game to all pro. Then play a couple of downs, go change sliders, play a down and then go back to game options. For me the skill level goes back to default rookie.

Pretty amazing you can edit all sliders in a demo.

I love the new game planning feature to decide on an aggressive play or conservative play and it also shows you what game planning play that you will run. That is a much needed touch

A couple of quick observations:

I am not a fan of the camera angle (a little too far back for me). I feel like the game plays faster on normal than last year. I even moved it to slow and it still seemed pretty fast.

Four Verticals and basically any crossing pattern is open about 90% of the time (on all-pro---so hopefully sliders will help this year)

I do like the new stat banners, (still wish they had them more frequently)

Also, I completed a Hot Route and nothing happened -- Does anyone know what was suppose to happen..

Just played 2 games, one with each team. Played on All Madden.

I loved it. Passes were nice, zone D was nice, gameflow was much improved, presentation was fantastic, player weight and momentum was brilliant, tackle animations look far more like real collisions. The whole thing has seen an impressive overhaul.

My one dislike however, was how often D Linemen get shoved to the floor when rushing. Or more so, the player I control. Rushing with Clay off the edge was fun, but far too often, he just got face planted on the ground. Anything but that would be nice, because it just completely removes you out of the play otherwise.

What is with these stupid sideline cams at the starting 2 or 3 seconds of every play

I barely have time to set my defense up because of it. Please tell me there's a way to skip past it/turn it off

A few notes after playing one game of Madden 12. FYI, I played as the Bears.

Pros:
  • Presentation looks good.
  • The new gameflow is very usable.
  • When playing run defense, defenders seem to be good at disengaging their blockers and chasing the ball carrier.
  • Defensive linemen seem to be able to push the OL backwards, albeit at a slow pace.
  • Dynamic Player Performance changes and reacts to the game, but I haven't seen how it affects the game yet. E.g. WR Knox dropped a pass over the middle between three defenders, which changes his status to drop open passes, but I didn't notice any difference in his ability to catch the ball.
  • Most of the suction is gone and tackles looked good overall. E.g. stopped Grant from picking up a first down as I was able to change his forward progression and make him fall sideways.

Cons:
  • While there is no visible suction, there is still warping (cause by lack of momentum). Especially for offensive linemen who are out of position, but somehow get in position and suck the rushing defenders into animations.
  • Having rushers sucked into animations is very disappointing. Had a play where my DE was inches from hitting the RB (on a stretch play), but got sucked into a blocking animation with the FB instead.
  • Super LBs are still in the game. For one, they can jump and intercept/knock down passes, but they also don't have to respect momentum.
  • Sometimes QB accuracy is off. E.g. QBs miss easy passes in an unrealistic manner.
  • Defensive backs are still psychic, but also appear to be a bit too passive for my taste. Maybe it was just because I played with the Bears, but many of my CBs allowed passes to be completed instead of knocking down the ball.
  • On one play Packers HB Grant trucked DT Toeania, which just looked odd.
  • Run blocking AI still needs work. Had two running plays where several defenders were left unblocked while my players weren't doing anything. E.g. had a loss of 3 yards on one running play, because my C, RG and FB didn't bother to block the NT.
  • Still see a lot of skating.
  • Replays are too short.

I'll try and play some more games (next up the Packers), so I can give some more impressions.

Where do I begin.

Ok the broadcast presentation
Absolutely refreshing.

It feels as if time is passing by realistically and when you turn game flow off and go the conventional route it plays off even better showing you stadium views of Soldier Feild(which looks fantastic).

Camera angle on kicks and field goal kicks are superb! My goodness it just looks and feels right. i am loving the kicking this year.

Replays are also done accurately.

To put it short even the beginning entrance and stdium view was just spectacular.

Will these things get old though? Not with 32 teams and stadiums to be honest as well as time of day etc. So i think we're in for the best progression of football since 2k5. Madden 12 feels like MLB The Show 11 when playing it and thats the highest compliment i can give it in the presentation department. Awesome EA!

Gameplay

I immediately had do some slider adjustments thanks to my closeness with the NCAA 12 engine now. So it helped me determine a good set right away.

Once done. I was lovin it. I can not stress how much the broadcast does to the gameplay. It's the waiting inbetween the nuances that matterjust like in baseball that not many seems to get. it's that waiting for that one play that one down before everything starts that matters and madden 12 does that in spades(Again so far who know if it gets old?)

tackling running THROWING(ohh man passing) is all fairly good and the best Ive ever played in a Madden. It's VERY hard to nit pick this game because it's taken everything that wa sdecent with madden gameplay and then just slowed it down and by that i mean added that real element of being able to be seen as a real game on tv(I could only imagine how good of a game NHL 12 would have been if they had the brains to do the same!...again RANTING over)

Other than that. DarN it's ONLY a DEMO! I want more nowzser!

Season pass here I come

Had an NCAA moment where it became obvious that defenders were cheating in reading the run. However i was able to actually turn reaction time down and suddenly my defensive backs werent crashing into the backfield at the snap of the ball.

I loved the "This telecast is copyrighted by the NFL for the private use of our audience. Any other use of this telecast or of any pictures, descriptions, or accounts of the game without the NFL's consent, is prohibited." thing at the end. It's a very small thing but I thought it was really cool.

I hate that too. I just flick the right stick and it lets you do audibles and stuff.

# 40 jmurphy31 @ 08/09/11 09:41 AM
I think Rogers is way too quick to tuck and run --plus he seems a bit fast in my opinion. I also dont care for the broadcast cam pre-snap (i feel like it gives you les time to make adjustments). Tackling feels a lot more intense this year (meaning it seems like almost every hit is a "hit stick" hit)

CPU AI at end of half and game is not very good
For example before half CPU call a TO when it is 4 and 2 with 5 seconds left just to punt it away.

in the fourth quarter with the game tied and they are alreadey in FG range, they call three timeouts with less than 2 minutes remaining...So not only do they stop the clock, but I am saved 2 TO's
