IGN has posted a preview for Franchise Mode in Madden NFL 12.
Quote:
"'Any Given Sunday' isn't just the title of a bad football movie; it's an old adage that you never know what you're going to get when players step out on the field. Anything can happen. Your star QB could sling it five yards past every receiver. Your shaky rookie cornerback might come up clutch with a game-changing interception. Over the course of weeks and seasons, players are defined by their tendencies and begin assuming roles in their teams.
Madden NFL 12 developer Tiburon recognizes this and has made it part of the core upgrade to Franchise mode. It's true, Madden has disappointed with its Franchise mode the past few years, but that looks to be changing this year. The amount of improvements is staggering, but the most significant are the additions of dynamic player performance and player roles."
IGN will be releasing a follow-up blog on Monday, May 16th going more in depth about the changes to Franchise Mode.
I think some of the frustration comes from lack of competition. Without competition EA will push themselves as far as they want to go. With competition they would be forced to push themselves at least as hard as the competition and continue to innovate and improve.
I just think that if there were 2 NFL games on the market there is no way they would walk into E3 and basically say "well, we didn't touch Franchise mode, but we'll get it next year."
They wouldn't and couldn't do that b/c they would have to be looking over their shoulder at what the competition did to improve franchise mode.
With that being said, I just skipped Madden last year - and I didn't miss it. This year with new Franchise Mode features I'm going to have to get it. I really like what the team did for this year's game - I just want to see that type of franchise advancement from year to year.
I think this is a reason why the lockout is actually good for Madden (quality wise), as they won't be able to sell as well because of the lockout. They have to really focus on making a stellar product to sell games instead of relying on the NFL to sell the games for them.
what good is the franchise mode if ratings dont matter. u shouldn't be able to put Peyton manning at db and lockdown aquain bolden. that is fake. madden will always suck because they don't know nothing about football
Funny, because you can't.
Or you know you also could just not put Peyton Manning at DB to keep things, you know, realistic.
AJ, thanks for your continued feedback. One question though, will offline multiplayer franchise mechanics be addressed in Monday's blog (for example, how free agent bidding is handled in a multiplayer offline franchise)?
So, what's really happening is that we're getting an improved Madden 05 franchise mode? I guess you have to start somewhere...
Yep. Madden 05 definitely had Dynamic Player Performance, expanded roster sizes, live free agent bidding, and who knows what else they still have to announce.
1. Will they be handshakes with Goodell and a jersey pose during the draft? This isn't a big deal, just wondering.
2. Is there a training camp like PS2?
3. Can you trade future draft picks?
4. Will the CPU trade with each other?

Never bought any of the next-gen Maddens until '10 and '11. I would have passed on '11 if I wasn't in an online franchise league in '10 that was carrying over to '11.
Even if M12 has a lot of holes and room to improve for offline franchise, just the fact there seemingly will be plenty of new features and aspects to check out is a plus - hopefully enough to bring the mode back from the brink of irrelevance.
A multi year commitment to the mode would be great but obviously impossible to guarantee at this point I suppose.
People do know that the online blog isn't coming on Monday right? I kind of wish they would have separate online and offline forums so I wouldn't need to hear people cry about online anymore.
I wish they would stop calling this a new feature. Its an old feature they are bringing back, which they never should have dropped in the first place. I am glad its back though.
