I'm pretty sure it's the same as last year, I don't think SCEA wanted to give a lot away so they edited it a lot.
I hope so. The editing wasn't so good, so maybe they edited the best they could to gets thing to flow the best they could so they could hide the stuff they didn't want you to really see. I liked how the opening presentation was like, under the second deck and you could see that, as how in previous titles it would zoom out from the center field concourse. Loved that little addition to opening presentation
man the person playing this game has no patience lol
I'd be doing the exact same thing if I was trying to hit from that camera. The only game I was ever able to do it well in was Bases Loaded - and that mostly had to do with up,down, left, and right being the only swing aiming controls, and the ball coming in at half the speed that it does in today's games.
I have great respect for anyone who can actually hit well from that camera angle, because I sure as hell can't.
Despite the editing and splicing, I thought the video did a pretty nice job showing off the new lighting effects, ball physics, player models/animations, and fielding/pitching mechanics. The commentating is still as bland as MLB 10, but that sure didn't stop me from loving the game.
One thing I notice from the new analog pitching meter is that it tries to mimic the animation of the pitching delivery from windup to release. I think this does a better job at making the users feel like they're pitching, rather than twirling input for the pitch then wait for the pitcher to make the pitch (like the 2K series). Also, I find shortening of the distance to the yellow line on the meter while Carpenter was pitching out of the stretch to be a nice touch!
Definitely can't wait to test out that demo tomorrow!
what else did this game need? new pitching/hitting, rain, etc
this isn't like the 2k series that needed a lot of improvements, the only thing that they could improve on is a new cover, because pretty much everything else they do the best of any sports games....
Well they missed with the cover (hate to sound like I'm nitpicking). Mauer didn't do anything to deserve back to back covers. They should have switched it up like they been doing. They should have gave it to another upcoming star. There were plenty of people that had breakout years: Votto, Cargo, Cano, a pitcher just because they never had one before King Felix maybe.
It would actually go back to 0. . Any way I like the pitcher release point and the outfielders see to take a little time getting to the ball. Hope we see more doubles donw the line this year.
scott, you read my mind. liking the outfielders not rocketing to balls.
goods:
• lighting was amazing, and the Wrigley shadows looked great
• some of the batting stances looked awesome.
• ball physics great as always
• saw one new presentation camera angle
bads:
• only saw one new presentation camera angle
• some pitching motions (carpenter in particular) were bad, still the old herkey jerkey ones
• commentary...enough has been said, but somehow it sounds worse
• am I the only one thats amazed the fade to white homerun edit is still in? Why not make homeruns a big deal? Multiple angles and edits like a broadcast.
• Player models to me still seem boxy, big. but they are better.
• The video was horrible. Why put one up that doesnt show ANY of the new features really? No sunset, no rain, no strikeout pitch recap, no presentations or even the batter walkups, no batting view, etc, etc. Seemed like an odd choice since it made the game look pretty much just like '10
I have to say, put me in the catagory of "not as impressed as I was hoping to be." I didnt see a ton of change from '10. Maybe the commentary was just flat. I heard some lines that can be heard in 06...still. Overall, not head over heals in love like I want to be. That is discouraging.
On the positive side I loved how Carpenter hit a batter and then they went into the HBP stat from last year. What I want to know is will there be more stuff like that, and more splits this year in Franchise mode.
you can mute any or all of the announcers this year.
Right, but muting them isn't the same as taking away one's lines and giving them to someone else. If he's muted, he'll still "talk" but you just can't hear him. There will be no one talking there instead, like if you just wanted Campbell to replace all of Karros's lines or something.

bodhi, great thoughts.
mine exactly, but u said it much more eloquently than me
bad choice to show off the new game, this clip.
I think they should release a clip showing off all the new features to try to sell the game.
During the rundown (5:10 mark), the 3b never takes the ball out of his glove. It just appears in his hand to throw. Sorry for the nitpicking, but fielding is very disappointing.
Karros is horrible. Hope you can get rid of him like you could Hudler last year.
To me....
Matt and Dave sound to me like they are in an arcade style game. Robotic and slow speaking. We aren't disable for good sake, talk normal, not like you're actually reading off a sheet lol ..and then Karros just sounds too professional for Matt and Dave, like Karros was meant to be. Now granted, he still basically is Rex v.2, but he sounds better and I think he will only get better as SCEA improves this area of the game in the future installments. More fluidness ad naturalness is what this ara of the game needs. Maybe even just a 2 man booth.
First real gameplay footage 3 weeks prior to release and some of you need to be talked off the ledge? Relax. Sony will release better footage showing off the new features as the release date approaches.
And many of the same people will be gushing about the demo this time tomorrow.

2 weeks actually, but shouldn't all the footage they release be "better footage"
I mean, for some people all they need is one bad video to change their opinion... it doesnt make sense to put out any videos that don't make the game look absolutely awesome!
If anything, their going backwards. The Yankees Vs. Red Sox gameplay looked better, the Brewers Vs. Mets gameplay showed off some awesome stances. The Phillies Vs. Red Sox gameplay wasn't so great.
