FBGRatings Seeks to Recalibrate Madden Ratings, Change Game

I recentely sat down for a talk with FBGRatings.com's Dan Berens to discuss his site's vision and what's going on over there today. The site is currently working on getting accurate ratings for every player using real hard data converted into the Madden ratings universe. Dan claims that when these numbers are plugged into the game, it plays much better and much closer to real life. The individual attributes will not be updated completely on this next update. They are still raw and are unmodified. You will have to wait for the OVR calcs for them to be complete.

Hey Dan:

Looks like the kind of gameplay that roster edits being created here (and in the NCAA forums) will extend the "shelf life" of both of this year's EA football titles...

I'd rather wait until both of these play as well as possible before buying into the next release cycle...

So: Although time is not an issue in the aforementioned "big picture", are you still shooting for a Week 8 completion date?

Will a PS3 version be available for download?

Apologies if this has been covered and I missed it...I've been immersed in the NCAA "salvation" effort...

yeah its still week 8, but there will be no way to download the ratings. they must be entered in manually.

Rosters will not be available for download. I am still in talks with a party interested in creating and distributing rosters. The issue is legal infringement on intellectual property that is capitalized upon. I had to shut down a group posting rosters of the ratings for sale on ebay. If you look at the site, TSX does have the copyrights to anything posted there. Therefore, any attempts at making a roster file for distribution will have to be assured that no profits will be made upon. Should I find that this is further exploited without permission, I will simply pull them from the site until it has been completed. I am not a fan of people trying to cash in on the few's hard efforts.

So as of right now, I would highly recommend not distributing any rosters for distribution until a deal is reached. No further updates will be made until week 8 at the earliest. I am still attempting to get the OVR ratings cracked and have sought help from a third party who expressed interest in helping get them hammered out. The sooner that is done, the sooner I can get the updated attributes posted. I was hoping to have them all completed by now, but it is such a long process that I am still in the raw data state.

As I stated waaaaay back on page one, I'd be happy to support these rosters, financially...

Making the game play as well as possible and giving it extended shelf life in the process is VERY worth that to me...

The bottom line is that the site takes great amounts of time and that time costs money. If I was able to be paid full time to run the site, it would have been fully operational a long time ago. The fact that I have to use my spare time outside of work to do it limits the time constraints. I would say that if you want the game done as quickly as possible, find a way to supplement my income so I don't have to spend 9 hours per day outside of working on the site.

It's unrealistic, but true. Until that happens, things are moving at a part-time, snails pace.

Just curious - if someone were to edit a roster file with the data currently on the site and make it available for download for free, would there be any issue with this?
As I understand it, all the ratings but the OVR are finished for the players, correct? If that's the case, Madden would automatically calculate OVRs for all the players once you entered all the other ratings into the roster file. If so, such a person making a roster file would not need to wait until week 8, correct?

There is an issue with anything taken from the site that is distributed without consent of the holders of the intellectual property displayed on said website. That is what the copyrights were arranged for.

Your understanding of the ratings currently on the site is also incorrect. All of the attributes you see are INCOMPLETE as they are raw and require further modification. The OVR calculations are part of this modification. If you use the data as it listed right now, they will not match the desired OVRs, which is vital to the system.

So on both counts, waiting until the completion of the OVR calculations and getting the updated modified attributes is the best option. Furthermore, anything needing distribution would have to be permitted by those holding the intellectual property. Until that is done, I advise not going forward with any roster projects at this time.

At this point the site is for personal use for anyone wishing to use the ratings system to improve their individual gameplay. Like I said earlier, its the RE-distribution from entities outside of FBG that causes issues.

I ran into this issue before where i asked forum users here if they wanted my content to go to my site. then some posters here went to my site and uploaded the content here without my permission the way OS doesnt have the permission to have full articles thrown into the forums either...so if you want the support of the community of OS you have to post it here.

Precisely. I wouldn't want to drag OS into anything challenging legality because an OS user re-distributed copyright material now would I?

Plenty of stuff that isn't legal going on here, almost all of it has to do with rosters and the unlicensed games.
