"EA SPORTS MMA brings the authenticity of the world’s most intense combat sport home like never before. Go on the offensive with a dynamic control system for strikes, elbows, knees and kicks and strategically manage advances and counters with an intuitive submission system. Battle it out in the Strikeforce cage or deliver vicious soccer kicks and head stomps in a ring in Japan. Are you ready? Let’s get it on!"
Are there sliders in the finished game? I have not heard any confirmation.
If the AI is better in the retail version, Career could be worth it. But as it is now, the AI is so easy to get past and the fights, for me at least, NEVER go past the 1st round....Maybe there is a RD Time option....3 mins would seem better...I like some fights to go the distance...If they all end in round 1...Its UFC rubbish all over again.
Here are some of my impressions - a lot of it is stuff you guys touched on. I talk about the Total Striking Control and compare it with Fight Night Round 4's controls, among other topics.
I'm doing the review on this title, so I want to get into this real serious before the game drops.
Let me know if you can hear me okay, this is my first video commentary. I can turn my voice audio up if needed.
First off I'm loving the submission system. I like having to struggle to execute a submission, unlike Undisputed 10 the mini games are fun to play and it feels more rewarding when you submit an opponent.
One gripe I have is the takedowns and how very little if any stamina is drained by it. Lashley attempted takedowns every conceivable chance, which should have negatively effected his stamina, but it had no effect at all.
The demo plays very well. Fighting is varied throughout the match. The animations are very fluid. It really depicts MMA fighting very well. Graphically the fighter models are nicely done. Cuts, scrapes, bruises and bleeding are depicted nicely.
I lost a match on medium skill to Jason Miller as Jake Shields. Although I was dominated and lost 30 to 25 I never felt as if the computer had an unfair advantage.
I thoroughly enjoyed the ground game. Takedowns, submission moves, counters, punching all felt fluid and natural. Transitional moves appeared fluid and realistic. There is noticeable unrealistic movement with walking but it is minor when compared with how well done everything else appeared to be.
I fought three tough rounds and enjoyed every minute of it. The UFC 10 demo pales in comparison to this EA Sports MMA demo.
To be honest the "delay" in striking is a great thing. I think you described it best whereas there's a period where the fighter has to load up for the next punch, as he would in real life, so it's not really a delay per say. In FN you can just throw punch after punch with all sorts of unrealistic combos, at an unrealistic speed and that made the game feel really bad and arcadey IMO. EA MMA feels much more realistic in that the fighters load up from punch to punch as you put it. The big thing that they were after was to make EA MMA strategic and realisitc, so if the punches worked like they did in FN then it would definitely become a button masher.
I played the game most of last night and again this morning. The game is really fun to begin with. Playing UFC Undisputed, I feel like I can't really get to the ground game. I also don't feel like I can get anyone to tap out regardless of who I'm using. With EA MMA I was being dominated until I got the hang of the controls. While the striking is not perfect, it's better than Undisputed. I don't watch a ton of MMA but I don't understand how guys feel that they should connect punches the way they do in Boxing. I just don't see many MMA matches where guys are landing effective punches like a boxer.
Again, with that being said--the striking does need a little bit of tweeking like one of the guys said. The punches don't look like they are connecting...animation wise. Overall, after playing the Demo this game will be one of my first day purchases. The demo gave me all that I wanted to see. I'm sorry if some of the "SIM NATION" wan't more realism or whatever. I was looking for
1. Smooth Controls
2. Game Flow, where players moved around the ring without being sucked/stuck together.
3. Animation that looked correct, smooth animation where you see what is actually happening or what you're doing.
4. A little bit of chess and not a total button masher or strike fest.
5. Better representation of styles...sort of how 2K basketball has signature moves sets for players.
6. I wanted to see if EA could bring a good atmosphere to the game. (though I don't like the sounds for the strikes, reminds me of a Kung-Fu flick)
7. Overall the Demo was FUN, and that's what I was looking for.
Of course I'm sure that the full game will have more depth, but I really enjoyed the fact that it didn't feel like a hour long study session to learn. Good Demo....1st day purchase for sure. Fun game.

Vitor disagrees with your argument of loading up punches. Just mute the crappy "music."
This is one of the most impressive displays of punching speed I've ever seen, and it still is to this day nearly 12 years later.
& he's one of the best strikers in the sport. You still see his hands returning and feet planting accordingly, which is what he says happens in the demo as well. I don't see how that's a bad thing when that's what happens in real life. Also keep in mind none of these guys in the demo have super quick hands to begin with, so I'm sure that factors in as well.

Part of the argument is the body positioning. Once your in close leaning, you don't want to give that position away until your done with your combo or if you are preparing to block/parry. In this demo, the fighters reset and the spacing gets thrown off - I think that's one of the contributing factors for the collision detection, spacing, and reach. Punches don't slip if they aren't hitting flush. That's the beauty to the FN4 controls to me.
If you throw multiple times, I feel like the second and third punches and so forth should come quicker, with less power behind them. That's what I mean with the Fight Night 4 punches. If you throw a couple in a row, they get weaker - this, the stamina drains, but not much. There shouldn't be a loading period in a jab combo in my opinion.
I think it sucks to be honest. The gliding is still there, striking seems unresponsive at best, a lot of the animations are TERRIBLE, I think it will become a transition spamming battle just like UFC 2010, doubles from across the cage are ridiculous, I don't quite understand the grappling but I think pressing 1 button to do a transition is absolutely ********, the graphics look like something you would see in the N64 wrestling games.
I think EA should just stop pretending that they make simulation games, it's clear to me that every single title they come out with is arcade style.
You are trolling for sure.
This game has the best graphics in a sports game ever.
Is anyone else having an issue with the CPU's stamina.
I noticed that the stamina hit they take when doing various moves like punching, kicking, ground transitions, muy thai clinch, takedowns etc. is significantly lower than a player controlled fighter.
I'm still trying to get the hang of the game, but I'm not spamming away with the punches, kick, and takedowns either.
Also how do you sway to avoid your opponent's punches on the PS3?
OS is getting out of control with all the the BRAND WARS it has. It's getting overboard childish.
It might be good to just make a BRAND WARS forum so the 2K/EA fanboys can duke it out. Similar to the CONSOLE WARS section of gamespot.com. Children and their computers--what a waste.
I will just come out and say it.....Biizz you are suspect. Something tells me you are banned user with a new account. Looking at your account, it is only a few days old. You say had the same discussion on Elite, but with this account, the ONLY forum you posted on was this one.
And I have noticed out of all the posts on this thread, you are the only one that always so happen to mention EA's name in your discussions. So it seems to me you just have an agenda with EA.
I mean the 1st post you made on this website you said this game had N64 graphics. Not only that, but from the get go you said, EA should stop trying to make simulation games and all of their games are arcadey.
All of them ? Really ?
You not even a fan of MMA because in your own words you don't even understand grappling or the concept of MMA. All you know is to mash buttons try to play the game as though it is a boxing game.
So tell me really, who you trying to fool ? It isn't the demo you are concerned with, or the actual sport of MMA, you just concerned with the fact it is made by EA.
Because all of your posts end up going back to EA.
Wow I got a guy I know that can hook you with some good good for your depression
Joking aside. Dude I don't know how to read you either. Everything out your mouth is negative. You think people want to read about you just whining and crying how EA does not make you happy.
I am sorry but no one wants to read that. Providing insight to help the game is one thing but just hating and complaining does NOTHING.
For instance. I think there is a issue with the ground and pound. The animations are off and need some work. I mention my complaint and move on to other areas of the game that I enjoy.
That way the company can see what is working and what is not. I personally agree with GMSS I truly believe you are a ex banned user. Just judging by your posts it is very similar to what we see often around here from pink names.
The problem is sometimes some of these gamers have a hard time with other gamers enjoying what they don't enjoy. If someone likes the game, it's not the end of the world. If YOU hate the game, that's not going to ruin my enjoyment. If I'm not a fan of Harry Potter it's not like I'll watch the movie then sprint home to jump on the Harry Potter forums (if their is one) and blitz it with my rants of how the movie was horrible. I'll move on. Not so with the EA products as of late. It's more like..."let me go out of my way to tell the world in the most childish way that I can how much this game blows". Bravo--lets just sink every game. If we can't, we can feel great that we gave a 100% effort to destroy it. Sheesh.

either that or he will be a pink name shortly if he keeps it up. theer is constructive criticism and theres flat out bashing, his posts are leaning toward the latter
I don't think it's terrible, but I feel it's being overhyped in here as well.
Here is my short take:
jabs are great, very happy about that and a nice surprise.
ground transitions are ok, I think I like them more than UFC, but I'm not sure.
light ground attacks like guard down strikes are great because they relay that feeling of real mma where they might hurt slightly, but are more annoying and score a little bit, and force or taunt a reaction.
Some throws are great
kicks are flat out terrible - hora-awful, no power and no reaction and awkward overall. As a long time martial artist, this is really disappointing.
Movement isn't as bad as I thought, but movement happens too fast still imo in relation to other movements. If a left hook is that slow for example, than moving around 10ft of mat space is way too fast.
Controls are 'sticky' and sluggish - AND inconsistent. They don' allow the user to pull of good common combo's either. It's not responsive enough, and some combo's don't flow as they should, like a 1,2,3.
36 takedown attempts by the CPU is a bit much imo
Graphics: I'm not the biggest gfx whore, but comments saying they are better than UFC imo are very misguided. The character models are not nearly as good imo - however the muscle flexing and movement is great, and some of the lighting is great too.
Sound is way below UFC i every aspect.
Presentation is lacking as well...yes they've ticked boxes like entrances (i don't care) but they lack execution. I just skip because they don't do their job.
there is also the trademark EA cutscene freeze where during camera cuts the curent shot freezes breifly before moving to the new one. It's like all of EA Sports uses the same _____________ that causes the same problem in all titles. I guess the retail disk will also make my xbox work like crazy too (why the heck is that?).
So overall I liked it, but it's not a world beater either - The striking is better in UFC '09 imo...but '09 is showing it's age and doesn't have sways and head movment and that's in EA's game.
In the end, I'll rent or buy it but maybe not right away as I'm converted to getting nba 2k11....
...but this game has made me realize that what I REALLY want is for THQ to get back on track and really nail their next effort. UFC can still evolve into where it should be and I'm not counting that out. I really think they KNOW it's not where it should be.
I also think some kudos are in order to EA, it's not easy to make an MMA game, and it's playable and fun, but not without its frustrations. This thread is being blown out of proportions in both directions. It's not this year's sports GOTY and it's also not someting that drops out of ****'s.
Trolls aside... would you guys say EA's MMA is a better take on the sport than Undisputed? I'm trying to get into the genre, but UFC's overly convoluted take on the sport has kept me away. I can't download it atm is why I'm asking.
Actually it'd be more like if you were a Harry Potter fan who thought the latest movie had a bad plot, bad acting, bad directing, bad sets, and bad CGI and you went home, sat down at your computer, and wrote an honest review of what you had seen.
if thats the case you write that review once, you dont retort everytime some posts a positve about said form of entertainment that you didnt like. you say your peace and leave it at that. reacting to every positve post about the game makes it seem like you have an agenda of some sorts.
