Peter Moore just confirmed NBA Elite 11's delay on his blog:
Quote:
Over the past three years, EA SPORTS development teams have had a laser focus on creating titles packed with innovation and unsurpassed quality. The acclaim from fans and critics on most of our titles the past few years makes us proud and it also motivates us to keep getting better.
This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA ELITE. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre. Unfortunately, NBA ELITE 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month’s launch. We are going to keep working until we’re certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience.
The entire dev team found out this morning. A bit of a shock as you might imagine.
Nothing apart from what you read in Peter Moore's blog has been decided yet. I've been in meetings all day discussing the possibilities.
One thing you can be sure of is that the community will be heavily involved, which shouldn't come as a surprise since the community feedback was one of the major driving factors in the decision.
reAnimator, you are an absolute professional.Your composure in the face of all of this has been fantastsic. You have stuck around and copped flack, but all the while stood behind a game that you believed still could be enjoyed by many.I must admit I was really looking forward to next week,I have loved the demo, but admit some things needed a bit more work.To think that the community has had such a influence is a really good thing and im sure the extra work you put into the game will make it ELITE,all the best champ!
Wow!!! Gamestop has March 2011, that's too dang far away!!! I was thinking January at the latest!
Why not just cancel it all together and work on Elite 12, and NCAA Basketball 12. A 2 year cycle will assure a much more polished product. Because think about it, were going to buy 11 almost on April 1st, and then Elite 12 in October 2011. That's 6 months apart. Why not just work and complete 12.
Overall, I think you guys can do so much better, and Live 10 proved you have the capabilities. Either way I can't wait to see the improvements as times moves closer to release.
gamestop is not final. its a placeholder.
right now, nba elite 11 is delayed. they will probably have more meetings, as this decision seemed fast. hopefully its canceled so it doesn't mess up elite 12's cycle.
graphics has to be on point next yr. scrap the high-saturation lights and the weird bodies. more like player model. is it too early to start a wishlist?
It's over Johnny. Wow. Only 1 NFL game on the market, only college football game no college basketball games, and now only 1 NBA game. What if NBA 2k franchise bcomes like Madden over the nextfew years?
At first create a solid basketball game around your new 'breakthrough' features and then we'll see whether the game as a whole will be a breakthrough for the genre.
Interesting announcement but don't give EA any credit here. It was a beta which was going to have a new game price tag and they would have done it.
No doubt OS may have had some say in this but EA is still a business and the fact that NBA Jam was 'free' with Elite and will now be charged out at whatever price means EA may even make more money here. Even with the game so close to distribution.
Damage control at it's finest given how late in the piece it is and to top it off, the company will still make a dollar. Maybe not as much but the loss won't be as great. The annoying thing is the theme for Elite has been a chorus and it happens now?
That being said, it will be interesting to see where it goes from here and what will be done. Again, not directing this at the developers but the EA bigwigs.
nba delete is done. Everyone should not expect a huge jump from what we've seen already. the graphics will be upgraded, extra animations will be added but it will be the same animations. they will not scrap the whole engine. it was a week from being launched so that means they've already started on elite 12.
i had a voice mail last night from gamestop about this, i was shocked...was really looking forward to picking this up october 5th man! now i gotta decide wether or not to buy a used live10 or get 2k11 on the 5th, cuz im jonesin' for some serious VG ballin...havent played since madden11 came out
This has to be said. Many of you are claiming the devs are lying or have been withholding information from us. I believe they are just as shocked as many of us were about the news. You have to understand, at some level, this has to be personal for them. I totally understand that sentiment, but the right call was made. Devs have to realize that many of us are just trying to strive for making a better game, some posters go about it much better and more respectable than others. Take the good with the bad, but realize most of us in the end, are looking out for the best product possible.
Does it really matter? its already a few steps behind 2K just like Live... and delaying the release may be smart considering they are trying to improve on there crappy product based on the demo, but its still going to finish behnd 2K which looks like its going to hit an absolute home run this year.
By the time Elite drops, Any true Basketball fan will likely have purchased the better game in 2k already.
I sure hope they intend on a 19.99 price too, cause if not, this game is going to be a failure BIG time, just like Live has been every year.
Well Reanimator/Stepsix as a fellow developer (not games, business sector) I know it's rough to put your heart and soul into a project and then hear that it's either been delayed or canceled. Good luck with the future of the title, I think I can speak for most when I say we'll be waiting to see what improvements you guys can make and I'll certainly give it a fair shot whenever it comes out, keep your heads up.
On a different note, I'm glad I decided to keep Live 10 and not sell it and I may actually pick up Jam now.
stick with the controls and improve everything else.....thats what u should do...new graphics...better foot planting thats a must...more sig animations...and smooth out the animations..and this game will be a solid game to sell
Is there a reason to be sad? I mean NBA2k11 seems to be a monster hit and the best SIM of BBall out there. Are people so brand loyal that they stick to a messed up series even though a wonderful BBall game coming out??
I know EA sells alot thru brand recognition but that would be plain stupid.
