Peter Moore just confirmed NBA Elite 11's delay on his blog:
Quote:
Over the past three years, EA SPORTS development teams have had a laser focus on creating titles packed with innovation and unsurpassed quality. The acclaim from fans and critics on most of our titles the past few years makes us proud and it also motivates us to keep getting better.
This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA ELITE. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre. Unfortunately, NBA ELITE 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month’s launch. We are going to keep working until we’re certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience.
if those controls stay the same i would never ever ever ever.. buy a nba game from ea.. give people the option to go back to original controls like they was on live 10. Im not feelin that futuristic george jetson controls..

Ahh, that option is already in Elite. It is even in the demo, you can switch to the classic button config instead of the Elite control scheme.
i switch to classic and it didnt feel like classic to me at all.. i touch the right stick very light and a shot went up..im no fan of control changes... dont like free throw changes in elite 11.. why they changing small things.. worry bout the game itself stop changing things that dont need change
im a basic player im not into all that futuristic stuff that was goin on in that nba elite 11.. i mean that hook shot glitch was irritating perfect shot everytime just about
I actually found this out through a vm from Gamestop while I was at work. I thought it was just confirming my pre-order from Sat. but it was to say that it was delayed and I could pre-order 2K11 instead, if I wanted, which I may or may not. I might just pick it up at Best Buy, instead, that morn.
While I do love playing the demo (it's on pause, now), after being appalled, at first, I still believed that EA should taken an extra year to round out this game in a better manner. The controls are on to something grand, imo, and there needs to be more built around.
I did really want to play the full game but this is a wise decision to delay it yet it would be an even wiser decision just to bypass Elite 11 and go straight to 12 in Oct. of next year. I'd prefer that but I'm still leery of what can really be done with that limited engine. The demo seems like the game is extremely stripped down to make it the way it is in it's current state. I believe rEAnimator said the demo was completed about 2 weeks before final code, if I remember that right. I could be wrong.
I'm also wondering if this wasn't a lil experiment to begin with by dropping the demo to see how gamers would respond. Obviously, it was overwhelming negative hence the delay but if there was a more favorable response, we may still be looking at 10/5 happening for this pup. Just speculating.
Whatever the case, I hope they can do something much more grand by next year. Those controls had me hooked. NEVER had as much fun with a b-ball game as I have with the Elite 11 demo. Real talk...as they say, these days. Heh.
well...i offer this bit of advice to the EA devs: start with the movement. mo cap, mo cap, and more mo cap...get the realistic human movement down and expand out from there...that is how 2k nailed their game and that is the way it is done. of course, 2k has slowly been building on their locomotion and animations for years...so i'm not sure you can pull it off in one dev cycle...but the biggest glaring problem with Elite is simply that the player movement looks fake and "animated" rather that captured from life. really study human movement and create a locomotion and animation branching system that is deep, versatile, and smooth...and make sure all these animations react responsively to controller input and without delay. the competition are masters of movement and their attention to detail in terms of executing animations that are appropriate for the momentum/situations of the players is amazing.
what I see in Elite is a lack of respect for real movement and physics. I don't know if this is because the devs can't see it, or they are making it that way on purpose...either way, that is the area to start. Live 10 had a good foundation in that regard, so to see Elite scrap all of that was strange to me. go back to square one....start with Live 10 and simply build Elite's new control into Live 10.

took the words right out my mouth, live 10 was an amazing basketball game minus the glitches.. i say it was way better then 2k10..... if they can somehow incorporate RTP, the new skill based shooting with the addition of the "grey zone" (explained in one of my previous posts), improve the graphics, so we can have the best looking basketball game ever... theyd be miles ahead of 2k
im playin demo now and u right.. those other controls where horrendous for me.. i wish the game would of came out i pre ordered it... whats wrong with failure?? people to scared to fail now of days? put the game out and let it fail so you can learn from ur mistake..
Like one of the mods said I rather this be a cover up ,because I can understand it and I would do the samething if EA was my employer. After all there is no way you guys bash your own game. But the refs dont move ,there are no injuries ,guys jumping without bending at the knees(yes I understand this was done on purpose ,but that doesnt make it right) guys doing things in humanly possible and the great A.I. we where promised is non-exsistent. So if you know all of this and still try to sell the game you either dont understand what important to most of us or your turning a blind eye. Once again I rather the latter.
I still don't understand your logic here...what would you have preferred the devs do differently? At first you say you would do the same thing in their position yet you're saying at the end that the two "possible scenarios" are both inexcusable...

I'm not blaming them. I thought I said this before. There appear to be some serious lack of communication with Elite devs and the decision makers. They should have been aware of this decision or at the very least the idea that something like this could happen. They seem as surprised as we are.
i would want the game to drop personally i like competition.. i pre ordered both do that every year.. last year i like nba live 2010 more than 2k10.. i would say Commentating was great i did enjoy that alot in demo.. not 2 happy to read bout this delay.. but old teams should be in nba elite / live thats a given right there playing with the legends makes the video game more fun.. How nba jam had legends in it but i didnt read about nba elite 11 having any legends??

That I agree with 100%...if I were a dev on this game I would be extremely pissed right about now...
the impression I get from the people leading and working on Live is that they are casual basketball fans...now I can't expect every person working on the game to be a basketball expert, but it seems to me that there was no one on that team who was really a basketball person to lead it and make sure it was authentic and covered every aspect of the game...in Live 10 i believe that person was Mike Wang...and now the game is being led by a guy who probably never shot a basketball in his life...i wonder if the lead producer of Elite even watched the NBA playoffs last year...2k's real strength is that the people leading their game (Mike Wang and Rob Jones) are true basketball fanatics that know the sport inside and out.
Elite strikes me as a game made by people with limited knowledge of the sport...the game focuses on the most rudimentary parts of the game (dribbling, crossovers, shooting) and ignores the more complex parts of the game (strategy, AI, etc.)...this leads me to believe that there is not a lot of real basketball knowledge coming from Elite's leaders...i have a hard time believing true basketball fans could've produced a game like Elite.
So, maybe one of their first steps should be to get a real basketball person in there to make sure everything is working like real basketball and to flesh out the AI and strategy so it is more authentic.

What makes you think the devs have "not shot a basketball in his life" or "watched the NBA playoffs"? Gimme a break dude...
