Peter Moore just confirmed NBA Elite 11's delay on his blog:
Quote:
Over the past three years, EA SPORTS development teams have had a laser focus on creating titles packed with innovation and unsurpassed quality. The acclaim from fans and critics on most of our titles the past few years makes us proud and it also motivates us to keep getting better.
This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA ELITE. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre. Unfortunately, NBA ELITE 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month’s launch. We are going to keep working until we’re certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience.
WOW!! Glad I logged in tonight! I was telling cats here on OS a couple months ago Elite was going to be TP this year. I am actually glad to see EA pull it. At least the better game, NBA Jam, will make it to market.
My question is now that 2K has the entire market to themselves, will we see some consumer love? Say, $15 off retail price? Would be a great move to get their product into more hands.
How is it a great move by EA, when the game is delayed 2011... games delayed doesn't nescarrilely make the game better....I don't think people will be thinking about buying a basketball game in januaray in 2011.... idk i think it was a bad move....cause now more customers will be buying 2k11
who said it was coming out in January? It could be delayed until next november for all we know. They will probably keep Durant on the cover and just make it Elite 12. They are basically just taking a year off of sales.
wow...this was not expected...but it is greatly appreciated EA Sports just got a round of mad respect for doing the right thing by your consumers.....thanks
Now as it relates to NBA Live 10 anything you guys would be willing to do to make the gameplay better in the mean time would be a good first step to repairing the confidence in your customer base...consider it a gesture of good faith.
Blackflash I know you're reading every response....please do what you can to make this happen I really did like Live 10 for the most part and since it's clear Elite won't be ready anytime soon....fixing up live would seem the next logical choice to passify the masses...(just sayin)
Yeah just scrap the 11 season and put it all towards 12. I just hope no developers get fired over this or demoted. Being in the business world I know when the call comes from the top, crap rolls down hill fast and people on the bottom get scapegoated.
The next week or so I wouldn't want to be an EA developer thats for sure. I know they going to have yall in meetings and conference calls non stop. Peace be with you.
The developers were on here two days ago saying how good th gameplay was in USER v USER mode...and how much they believed in the game...
So, you can be certain they themselves had no idea this was coming / had nothing to do with the decision.
I am guessing the suits at EA got wind of unpublished reviews and saw a tsunami of 4/10 type reviews and realised the long term damage that type of score would do to the series.
There's no "wow, well done EA" here.......this is simply damage control.
I completely agree. But honestly the game just had so many flaws to fix. When we kept hearing/video of the other game popping up and no videos or game in had from Elite, I had a feeling a delay was coming. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprise if the Early Jan/Feb officially becomes a official release date for the game until they feel like the quality is up to par to release along side the other. It also wouldn't surprise me that they announce that NBA Jam will be releasing next month via live/psn. There is still a market for that game right now. This decision is good for the long run if the quality of Elite is improved, but for the immediate future they missing a chance to rake in profit from the Free agency hype. But I'm saying it now, to get the game where there is sig shots, crossovers and foot planting, a loss of control will have to be sacrificed. There is no way around this. So for those people that was enjoying the "Killer Crossover" that Bynum had, you may want enjoy the demo why you can.
Great move on EA to not pass this under-developed game to the fan base. I was actually getting into the demo of late, the game is very rough around the edges though you can every now and then see some great things in the game play. I personally feel they should update Live 10 with DLC NBA 2011 content and put out Elite 12 next season - this would be the best move IMO.

So which is more important man... low score reviews or sales? Live 10 had some nice reviews out there.... the highest of the series
-NBA JAM will launch on the Wii, as scheduled, on October 5. NBA JAM won recognition this summer as the best sports game at E3 and it’s a blast to play. In addition to the Wii version, we’re going to ship NBA JAM as a standalone product on the Xbox360 and PS3 in time for the holidays. Watch for more news soon on the exact timing of that release.
-For NBA LIVE 10 players, we will continue to offer free content and services throughout the 2010-11 season. We will start with a new roster update so you get all the players for the new season, free of charge. We will also provide free Dynamic DNA updates, daily, for the entire season. That’s a full season of basketball with new rosters and updates, free.
Shocking news for sure but at least EA realized how bad Elite currently is. As others have said, not sure it makes much sense to push the game back five months. Scraping it and going for next October is probably the best move because this game is lacking in literally every department except for controls. Even if some things get improved for a March release, what's '12 going to look like six months after '11 drops?
I'd like to see them add some realistic animations or atleast upgrade the animations from NBA live 10 into this game.
Throw in some SIG stuff and fix the AI
Maybe that can be done around Febuary who know's.....but those were the only issues i had with Elite it didn't look like basketball half the time.
Well it did but it was corny/goofy looking basketball..........LOL!
That would be ideal for sure LOL!
But more then likely they are going to try and clean up the game. Work on the AI issues and maybe make some tweaks to the shooting and animation problems.
I'm not expecting a big change but I think we may get something like a patched version of the final game without all the restrictions made by MS and Sony.
So maybe we'll get that speed slider back this year (should have been in, in the first place) along with some other tweaks we wouldn't get in an ordinary patch.
what does this mean no elite "11" or there gonna wait to launch elite 12 in 2011? either way im glad that game was terrible, bad move either way cause there gonna increase 2k sales by 40%, next we need protest madden

Honestly even the controls need to be revamped if they're trying to "open the market".
wow I thought It was April 1st when I saw this headline, great decision though. They should scrap releasing Elite 11 completely and work towards perfecting Elite 12
How much is EA losing here?..I'm sure Elite went to press to be shipped later this week...that's a lot of copies to melt
I can't remember this ever happening to any sports game so close to release..curious to know how long REAnimator has known? Before or after demo?
I applaud them for doing this and for not holding Jam hostage in the process
The entire dev team found out this morning. A bit of a shock as you might imagine.
Nothing apart from what you read in Peter Moore's blog has been decided yet. I've been in meetings all day discussing the possibilities.
One thing you can be sure of is that the community will be heavily involved, which shouldn't come as a surprise since the community feedback was one of the major driving factors in the decision.
