NBA Elite 11 News Post

Peter Moore just confirmed NBA Elite 11's delay on his blog:

Quote:
Over the past three years, EA SPORTS development teams have had a laser focus on creating titles packed with innovation and unsurpassed quality. The acclaim from fans and critics on most of our titles the past few years makes us proud and it also motivates us to keep getting better.

This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA ELITE. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre. Unfortunately, NBA ELITE 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month’s launch. We are going to keep working until we’re certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience.

Seen this coming, too much negative feedback on the demo...."Elite 11 Delayed until 2011" hmmmm really not sure if this a smart move by EA....I hope tryna fix this game doesnt interfere with the development of Elite 12...Also, Since Elite 11 aint droppin until 2011 will the "Time Frame" change, does this mean NO more EA basketball games a year early (meaning Elite 12 coming out in 2012 instead of 2011) makes one think doesnt it!!!

Keep in mind, this isn't the first time Electronic Arts has humbled themselves to a superior product. They canceled the first madden on ps1 because game day was light years ahead of it. Great decision EA!

Nothing apart from what you read in Peter Moore's blog has been decided yet. I've been in meetings all day discussing the possibilities.

One thing you can be sure of is that the community will be heavily involved, which shouldn't come as a surprise since the community feedback was one of the major driving factors in the decision.
That's good the community will be heavily involved because ultimately we are the ones that will buy you guys product, maybe we can make a thread about things will would like improved after playing the demo so it can be consildated on one BIG list, a lot work has to been done, but at the end of the day I see your guys vision, and I hope you guys are able to make a excellent product the respresents the NBA/basketball.

Surely they won't release Elite 11 and Elite 12 in the same year

While this is sad, it's also kind of funny. I guess you don't need an exclusive license when you can literally run your competition away lol.

It was a shock? really? After all the negative feedback received. I will say this rEAnimator, there is more to a quality NBA game than User vs User. You guys really need to understand this. Well good luck with the game. After finally reading the blog, Peter was pretty vague in his statement, which i believe was intentional, I'm under the impression you guys have given up on this year.

EA did this to save their company money. IMO it had nothing to do with looking out for the customer. It cost them more to release the game in its current condition since they knew it wasn't going to sell well. Overall a smart business move by EA.

Question:

HOW DO THEY HAVE THE CONSUMERS IN MIND!!!!?????

This is like a movie being delayed because the trailer was panned and the early critic reviews were negative. Movie Studios dont delay movies for the good of the consumer. They do it because it cost money to ship, print and advertise the movie and they are cautious about losing money.

EA recognized they were about to take a huge loss and made a financial decision. Thats it. The demo was being panned by hardcore and casual gamers and EA realized that catching a brick with the first version of your "new" brand is disastrous for this yr and the future.

EA didnt delay the game for you the consumer. They did it for the long term financial viability of their NBA basketball series.

Great news but don't make a fool out of us EA, make a better game and do not just let the heat subside.

This is a classic example of what happens if you only had minimal improvements from 2003-2008.

Well the killer thing is, without saying Live 10 was canned for this game and look what happened.

Its bad when its 2 years in a row... thats a sign...

For the most part in a free market system the two are generally the same thing right?

But Aholbert32 how often do you see something delayed this late prior to release. Isn't it a huge lost producing all the games and not selling them?

That’s a full season of basketball with new rosters and updates, free.

That's big news there. I think I may be able to find someone who will give me Live 10, so that'll be my "second game".

I still really like this move. I just wonder how the graphics will look on the new rookies.
I actually really like this move, as well. It's pretty much unprecedented to do something like this in sports games today.Especially since they're keeping Live 10 updated. I applaud EA for that. I guess now the question is going to be how will they have time to work on Elite 12 with most of their resources seemingly going to 11?

Things will definitely be interesting over the coming months.

Exactly! I'm not giving EA "credit" for not pooping on the consumers by releasing NBA Elite 11 next week.

You only get credit for doing something good; you DON'T get credit for "not doing something bad."

That demo was the worst peice of sports gaming this generation by a mile. I mean it was just terrible. From the half court glitch, to the passing mechanics, to the muddy graphics. It was a complete joke.

This is a disater for EA. A complete disaster. No company wants to be in that position one week before release. Ever.

Thank goodness that the people who were going to buy this won't be given the option. Thank goodness.

# 299 23 @ 09/27/10 11:34 PM
Okay, IMO Live 10 would be best suited really looking into those ratings because it would help the experience out immensly

I did a huge ratings thread on here tweaking the game, they should take a look and check into some of those things because the patch and updates made Live 10 unplayable in alot of ways like the chest bumping, over exxagerated super defense, verts, blocks, rebounds, abilities, who's scoring the most and also alot of other stuff I mentioned in there.

Good move by EA? I don't think so. They've done this before and it is ALL about what the competition is doing. Ask yourselves a question: if EA had the exclusive license like they do with Madden and NCAA, would they cancel/delay a game? Of course they wouldn't.

This is about a company making bad development decisions that were continuing to hurt their product portraying a major sport in the USA. They needed to change course and that's what they are doing. This is failure 101. No company should ever, ever, EVER be congratulated for this. Especially a game company like EA.

This is all about the competition and EA not being able to compete. This is what competition does. It drives success and failure. Congratulate them when they release a superior basketball game. But for now, there is just no way to spin this as a positive.
