Peter Moore just confirmed NBA Elite 11's delay on his blog:
Quote:
Over the past three years, EA SPORTS development teams have had a laser focus on creating titles packed with innovation and unsurpassed quality. The acclaim from fans and critics on most of our titles the past few years makes us proud and it also motivates us to keep getting better.
This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA ELITE. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre. Unfortunately, NBA ELITE 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month’s launch. We are going to keep working until we’re certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience.
So, EA is going to wait 'til the 2011-12 season to release the game. Wow, gutsy move. Seems like a smart decision for the long term outlook of the franchise. Hopefully, they use this time to combine what they were developing for Elite 11 with what they had going for them w/Live 10. I've not bought both BBall titles in a few years, but still, I like parity, variety, and choice. Here's hoping they use this additional time wisely.
Do you really think EA is doing this because it's the right thing? Or because so many people had so many bad things to say and they feel like putting it out would cost them more in poor sells then delaying or cancelling?
Of course the reason is money. However, I still believe it's a good move that should only mean positive things for the consumer. They've released a lot of bad games this generation, but this is the first time where the consumer feedback has been so strong that they had no choice but to listen and adjust. This is what we have been wanting, for EA to own up to the crap they've been releasing and make a real effort to please the consumers. I'm not pretending that it's due to their benevolence.

No I meant that would you seriously rather pay for a broken game as opposed to paying for a complete one? That makes absolutely no sense to me. I can't even imagine the thought process my man. I'm not going to get into the whole Live/Other game debate but I found that post of yours unbelievable. That much fanboyism can't be healthy.
I think a really smart thing for EA to do would be to hold another community day.
IDK if they're actually cancelling Elite 11 and releasing Elite 12 next October (makes the most sense to me), but regardless I think it would be a good idea to get some of the guys from this community that know basketball (23, Czar, Pared, DC, etc) and get their input again. It definitely wouldn't hurt at this point.

Just ignore the idiots. Best thing you can do because there's going to be a few people that want to pile on all of the negative EA press right now.
Sorry you cant seem to understand that not everyone is alike. Im not buying a game because YOU like, it, i was buying it because i liked it.
I completely understand that not everyone is alike. That wasn't the point. The point is that you are completely willing to spend 60 bucks on a product that by the maker's own admission is not up to standard. Is it the name of the company that makes you willing to do that?
Anyway.....getting back on topic here. Gamestop website says March 31st for $59.99. Clearly....that price will have to be cut in half.
Ok so 6months from now. Like I said thats almost an entire development cycle. Which makes me wonder will this delay Elite 12? Hopefully there is a crew working on 12 and 11.5 at the same time.
Dont know if this has been brought up, but I wonder if this could mean the return of NCAA Basketball next year as well? Maybe they are working on it too..?
Also, this is too bad. I really enjoyed Live 10, but in all honesty - Elite 11 just didn't look good at all.
A lot of super models are simply surface material. An attractive exterior with fundamental inner flaws. Beauty in an anorexic, self conscious, drug induced body.
Anyhow, we get that Elite was flawed, hence the delay. They've done well with revamping Fifa, NHL, and NCAA football, give em a chance.
lol, wow, this is getting a little off topic friends...

dang that really upset me, i was looking forward to using the new controls on Elite, yall could have at least try to fix some of things in a patch or something. Well with this extra time i hope its alot better then what yall put in the demo since some ppl have to suffer with no EA bball game. And plz keep the new controls, i mean u can have both formats like you did on the demo when it comes to control wise. other then that do what you got to do just don't mess with the control scheme again leave the options as it is already.
guys, this March release date has NOT been confirmed. Just because GameStop has it on their site, doesn't mean it's an official release date. Let's be patient and wait to hear an official word from EA.
March 31st? Ouch. Then again, if you're gonna delay release, might as well do it till the playoffs are right around the corner (mid-April). I'd imagine sales in general pick up around that time.
Honestly I don't want to see a game in March and then another in October. That is too much like FIFA how they release 2 games in a year with little difference between the two.
I rather they spend a whole year on 12, then spend more time on 11 and then spend 6 months on 12. Because IMO, 12 will get the short end of the stick if they release 2 nba games 6 months apart.
Because then it would be like, what the hell will they have to show for E3 then ? Who knows if PS Move and Kinect takes off, they might use both of those devices in Elite 12 control scheme.
Mad Props to listening to the Community on this one EA, it will pay off in the end. It may not show itself in the form of units sold for Elite 11 but laying the ground work for a solid franchise is the most important thing that can be done.
Now here is the $10,000 question, Will EA be bringing along more Employees to work on Elite or will the same amount of guys be working on this. I ask this because Delaying a annual game will stunt the growth of the next ittteration. 6 months is just not enough time push out a game.
Better than past releases, I agree. But there is a key person that left the L10 development team. That key person knows more about basketball than anyone on the current Elite team. If they want to build on the success of L10, they wouldn't have brought in the dude from the NHL series. NHL isn't NBA; "hockey isn't basketball". "Don't play video games, play basketball."
Prudent decision from a publisher w/ a not so prudent past. Honestly....with the way 2K is stacking up this year, they stood not a SINGLE chance. David defeats Goliath.
