Feels somewhat arcadey to me ...could just be the skill level and this still will be a first day purchase .
Like for example the way the shots look to me seem a little weird (not to mention the shiny ball). I mean its like every shot has the same feel wether it goes in or out (except ft feel the same). In 2k10 i knew if my shot was bad or good when i released it.
some of the iso moves just seem a little exaggerated and unpredictable as well but that could just be me learning it
Theres some things i dont like and im sad to say it...Game seems like that tried to make it like Live a little bit which i absolutely HATE
I wish they could of made the controls like Live at least tho. Unless i'm missing something, is there a way to dribble from your left hand to your right and back again without moving your player?
I think that Live did things well that 2k didnt and 2K did things better than live, but thats a another topic....staying on topic here I believe that Wang going to EA and bringing back some of the stuff that he got there and integrating it into 2k may be the best thing ever.
Seems like Wang was a spy for 2k
Well for me there was absolutely nothing Live did well IMO (and im not going to turn this into a Live bash session).
from the awkward playign movement to the ridiculous looking shots and hunchback player models and the outlandish arcade gameplay.
Have you ever played live 10? There's a lot if it in 2K11. Size ups and pull up jumpers for example. I think they are a GREAT addition though
Without disrespecting Live 10, Sizeups have been part of 2K since NBA 2K6 (or 2K7). They have been refined in this version, and that can partly be attributed to Live 10 doing a good job with them last year.
And, Pullup jumpers? Really? Why would any good basketball game not try to figure out a way to get those into the game? In the end, you guys should be looking at every little aspect of playing hoops and expect that 2K (and EA) are going to try to figure out a way to get those into the next version.
It's not a matter of two games copying each other, but rather a natural evolution of the games trying to emulate the sport itself.
the out of bounds animiations have been improved also....Mike did you take that from live, it's just the way fisher ran out of bounds, dove on the floor, and then turned around on the floor to try to save the ball noticibly like the animation I saw last year.....lol
I love that the big men cant dominiate with unrealistic dribbling, bynum kept turning over the ball yesterday...lol Paul Gasol attacks the bakset like he does IRL. double teams are going to be big this year also..can't wait to figure out the dynamics in practice hard to do in the game playing live...
I think the crowds are responding great to gameplay and the detail on the models are much improved...I will however take back what I said earlier about less of the white tea-shirt guy....I saw alot of the same animations of people moving in the arena that I usually see from previous years games...can't you guys do more in that area....? lol
Dunks this year are on crack!!!! the aggressiveness of the dunks are incrediible....and I think I see different variations in the aggressiveness of passes...I had a shot get block last night and then my team mate got the ball back and did a laser pass under the hoop to a team mate just all of it happen in one sequence...it was cool...passes this year are definitely gonna be fun as heck to do on demand......
well...after playing the demo a lot last night and some more today...i have to say, i'm not too pleased.
negatives:
1.) the control/movement looks "smoother" but it's still not responsive. Every movement feels like it's delayed by about 1-2 seconds and it feels like my player is too "heavy" like he's trying to trudge through thick mud. i like that they have momentum...but it's too much momentum...it takes an eternity just to change direction or get my player to start moving from a standing position.
2.) body contact when dribbling is awful. this actually got worse from last year. now there is just ONE repeated "cut off" contact animation that causes my dribbler to completely stop and get suctioned to the defender for like 2-3 seconds. it used to be that the defender could kind of "ride your hip" and run along side you, but now he just stops you every time dead in your tracks, and you cannot break out of the contact animation...i have to wait an eternity for my player to suction off the defender before I can move again...terrible.
3.) shot blocking is worse from last year...players rarely jump anymore and usually just put a lazy hand up, which seems to do nothing...so contesting shots is nearly impossible because my defender won't jump.
4.) it is also pretty much impossible to avoid fouling in the paint...if you are on defense, and a guy drives into the paint, you are almost always going to foul him as he gets to the rim...it used to be that you could kind of avoid fouling him by moving away from him as you comes at you, but now you are just suctioned to him for an automatic foul...this was Live's biggest problem last year and it looks like 2k has been infected by this disease.
positives:
1.) i do like the momentum jumpers and the wider variety of jump shots.
overall i'm not too pleased with this game...a lot of things look prettier, but the controls are not more responsive, and some things have gotten worse. it's like they thought that if they made everything look smoother, people woudn't notice that the controls were still delayed and unresponsive.
the game is improved in some ways, and it's not bad by any means...but i would not call it an improvement over last year in terms of enjoyment...i care about control and responsiveness, and they didn't quite deliver in that area for me. based on the demo, i give it an 8 out of 10. there are lots of pretty new animations to look at, but that doesn't make me enjoy the game more.
I wish they could of made the controls like Live at least tho. Unless i'm missing something, is there a way to dribble from your left hand to your right and back again without moving your player?
nope thats one of the things that irks me...a simple cross while standing would've been nice..
there are times when the size up moves dont work and they do a simple cross from left to right...random though since im still trying to figure out the camera relativity for the controls when it comes to size ups...
I am just blown away by this demo. The physics, the animations, the fluidity of the gameplay...it's amazing. Such a huge step up from previous games it's not even funny. I bought Live last year because the 2k games had turned into such a mess, but man what a difference a year can make.
Same here. At first I did not like the heavy feel of it, but the more I play and adjust, it opens things up and is certainly more realistic than run and gun as in years past.
Jeebs, its a demo man. I think most are just taking it for what it is. It SUCKS it barbones....Im just gald we got something early from 2k...Its basically just a teaser of some of the improvements. @ Pared....Yeah, when you put some work in on the controls its awesome...but I feel you on the momenteum...IMO its a necessary evil..
I think so. Once you start violating the "rules" of human movement, you start breaking the subtleties of the game. If you let someone change direction in an instant, what's the point of ball movement and misdirection. It's been THE #1 problem with the spacing of the game for years.
Has anyone been able to steal the ball from behind on a CPU Celtic fastbreak? I'm pressing the steal button and nothing happens. I press Y to get contact, and nothing. I want CONTACT and this demo is doing little of that for me right now.
Where I do see CONTACT is in the half court setting when trying to do cross overs and other moves, causing the moves not to finish and or feel unresponsive.. I love that aspect of the CONTACT. But it's sorely missing in the open court. The only contact is a hard intentional foul, via the back button.
I do agree that the demo is pretty barebones though, and the decision not to have the ability to call plays, or including an option to play as the Celtics/2-player is questionable. But don't see them as the huge fail issue that some have made it out to be.
Only problem with releasing such a barebones demo is for those who don't know better. They may just think its a representation of the final product and not buy it.
2K should release another demo with Jordan in it for sales.

Don't be such a "debbie downer."

It's there. Have to steal on the ball handler. In fact, that terrible "ride the back" animation is still there. I don't know if the ball-handler can break out of it though. The CPU doesn't and lets the animation play out, taking them out of position.

Yes. I have been able to bat the ball out of their hands when going up for a layup as well. Once or twice it actually knocked off of them and went out of bounds.
Did anyone notice that you can't walk bouncing the ball like we were able to do it in 2K10 (or even 2K9, where we could use different speeds to lead the offense with the man carrying the ball).
That sucks, I love to walk through my court cooling down the match a bit. Now we kind of "crawl".
Agreed. I absolutely hate that. But I can EASILY live with this though. They probably didn't have time to put it back in when they rewrote the dribbler. It's like those old cartoons where they would take apart an old car, put it back together and there would be parts left over. Of course, most of the time, the shiny new car would collapse. But I think this game will hold up pretty well.

I'm willing to bet you're in the minority here. In 2K10 they absolutely *broke the concept of release points. Not saying you couldn't get a shooting rhythm, but compared to other years it was terrible. There is actually a detectable release point in this game. Perhaps with more time, you will feel the rhythm more in 2K11.
I also saw that you mentioned the crowd didn't sound right?.... What version are you playing? The crowd has never sounded better to me.

I have.. he kind of rips it from the side... I did it once. The anim is a bit different than the one from last year
I am blown away by the demo. It seems that the CPU is smarter but not in a cheating sort of way. I like feeling as if I have to earn a basket by playing basketball and not just running around until I score.
The players seem smarter and are in much better position. I think this game will be played once it comes out, up until 2k12 launches.
