MLB 11 The Show News Post

Baseball's pennant push is in full swing, and several teams are feverishly trying to claw their way to a division title. For those of us whose teams have already been eliminated from postseason consideration (my beloved Tigers included), the only baseball we really have to look forward to right now is next season's entry of Sony's stellar MLB: The Show franchise. While this year's title was an excellent addition to the series, there are definitely some nagging issues holding the game back from the elusive "GOAT" status.

With plenty of time still left in this year's development cycle, I figured I would put together a couple critical aspects of the game that should be altered for the upcoming season.

Don't get me wrong I love playing games, my Franchises I never simulate one game I always have to play all 162 games and all the playoffs game, however one thing I love, and am passionate about is the front office stuff. I think MLB 10 the show improved a lot which was great making arbitration available and all was really a neat feature. I think they could still add even more and make it a lot more fun.

Things I think would be cool:
-10-5 Clause/No Trade Clause- there have been games that had this, I think they would have to work a bit on it because you wouldn't want the player to always say no to every trade you tried doing that could get annoying too, but have it out there.
-Make Negotiations with Japanese players more real life like. Like the whole bidding process and then trying to offer a contract, I think this would be really cool since in the game you pretty much only get Asian players through the draft picks if I'm not mistaken.
-Incentives- I think this would be another great addition, so much could be done use incentives for players salaries to go up based on season performances, while others would activate a player option like in real life.
-Better trade negotiations a little like OOPB where teams might get back to you saying they would be more interested if you threw in this player, or that player, etc...
-Add in a player to be named, I think it can work in NHL games you can trade draft picks so I think it could be similar.
-Also add in cash considerations
-Luxury Tax- I play as the Yankees so chances are I would have to pay a lot of them but I still think it would be really cool to have it.
-Better negotiations with players, like for example if you made them an offer and they didn't like it much their agent sends you mail telling you how your offer can improve.

Wouldn't have to be all of those things but some would be nice, regardless I love how the Front Office stuff is right now but I think it would be even more fun with some of those additions.

Sorry if a thread of this has already been made

Good suggestions, I like them all. I really like the one about incentives. For a gamer who like to play every game this would be great. And for your simmers this may intrigue them to actually play out more games because they will be playing for something instead of leaving it up to the computer.

I see someone has been playing a lot of Out of the Park Baseball!!

Yes...I too would love all of those additions.
Add in a player search and to me maybe the one thing that would really help out the GM portion of the game....a trade difficulty "slider".
One other thing I also think would help the franchise portion of the game is the ability to edit the team budgets(at any time during the franchise)
While ALL portions of the game get attention every year...I think it see-saws from heavy on franchise(last year) to gameplay/graphics(at least that's the way it seems to me).....so we'll have to compile a good list for Kolbe and Co. to add to the franchise mode.
The fact that they pay attention to our requests has me encouraged for additions like these.

Yeah I gave OOP 8 a try because it was free and I wanted to see how it was and I really liked how the front office was done in that game.

I think that incentives might actually be easiest to add out of all my suggestions just because if an inferior game like that 2k game MLB Front Office or something like that can do it, than I'm sure so can The Show granted the other one was more about front office

One little change I would really like to see is to add one column in the Roster Vault so we can see who posted it !!!!
I can't say much and while I don't think you'll be able to edit potential(it's nearly a guarantee you won't)....neither of those things will be a problem this year.
You'll see is all I can say at the moment.

I can't remember why, on potential being uneditable.....they did tell me.

On how it won't be a problem....I really cannot say any more until I get the OK.
Like I've said way too many times....Kolbe...Jeff...Aaron simply hear what we're saying and make it happen in a way that they can. It's not always exactly what we "want"....but they do it within what works for the game if they can.

Which is a good thing, just a small question don't know if you are allowed to say or not, but will there be any updates on franchise other than just game play? Like I said earlier its the stuff on franchise (Front office mostly) that really gets a big part of my interest

Four minor things I'd like

1. I'd like to be able to cycle through the foul ball animation.
2. Be able to change time of day for franchise games ... I really prefer to play in the daytime.
3. Pop-up alerts. About things happening around the league. "Pujols hits HR #35 in SF" "Cards 1.5 up in NL Central after win"
4. I would like more reward on the guess pitch/perfect swing. Reward = strength of contact, not a guarantee in a hit.

Hey guys, I love this site and mostly been lurking and reading what people want but I thought I'd throw my two cents in on what I want.

First, I'd love to have non-roster invites for Spring Training. I think that would really help on the realistic part of the game. A lot of non-roster guys make the opening day roster and I think it would be beneficial to have in a game.

Also, I'd like to have something you can edit to have a player eligible for the Rule V Draft. This really will help once a full minors roster is out, because all the real minor leaguers are there and it would be closer to the real Rule V draft instead of having guys like Joel Zumaya and Jason Grilli (who are not on the 40 in most rosters, but subject to the Rule V draft).

The last thing I would like to be perfected would be the option years. If they could solidify it and make it how it is in real life, then I think this game would be perfect.

Knight, a difficulty "trade" slider is a genius idea. But the slider would have to work for all teams and not just the user controlled (I guess if the slider is global). I hope they implement this idea.

Well....I can't really take credit for it.
OOTP11 uses it and I have it set to very hard.
I cannot tell you how many times I've seen the "sorry, we won't take on a vastly overpaid aging player" when trying to move my older players.
It's also pretty crushing when you put your player on the "shop around" section(you can do 3 per day...that's it) and you get zero bites...
But it does make it "interesting".

I finished my 2011 season(I took over as GM after simming 2010 and firing Omar Minaya)...in forth place 11 games under .500. I couldn't move anyone except Franceour for Kuroda(Frenchy ripped it for L.A.....Kuroda sucked) anytime during the season even near the deadline.
In some ways it might be too much...but as long as you can move it back and forth...it works as intended.

I was thinking that it would be cool to be able to play a RTTS with players already in the majors. For example, say I want to break the home run record with A-rod or just close games with Papalbon. It would be just like RTTS so if I wanted I could take whoever I am controlling to another team through free agency if I want.

What you guys think? I do believe Maddens superstar mode had this a few years back.

Very good idea.

Posada and Cervelli really wear out a 60'6 ft. path in the infield! This would add a huge element of realism.

I too would like to have catchers do a visit but there would need to be a limit on how times they could go out as I could see people abusing it. Also, their affect on pitcher confidence would have to be weighted less then the coach coming out.

A cather with less expirience should actually hurt a pitchers confidance if you call him out too much.

I guess for me weather changes depending on location and time of year ( i know its hard but i can wish right??) and for me the 1 thing i have always wanted was a solid trading system. If i have a guy whos 70 overall but hits me 20-25 HRs and around 90 RBIs the computer should have some interest in the PLAYER and not the 70 overall rating. I know i had some players do that and the computer wouldn't even trade me a bag of balls and a 40yr old player. Also a rookie system where bringing a player out of the minors and having him light up the league like we have seen in the past with players just dominating and being nobody of note (Aaron Hill for my beloved Jays comes to mind)

It would also be nice during the season if free agents considered your offer more like they do in the offseason, rather than just accept or deny right away. Because the way it is right now you can most likely get them for less in the offseason than during the season because it's programmed not to accept any offer at all if it goes under the price by some

4 keys to success for MLB'11: The Show.

1. A functioning Franchise mode out of the box
2. A fully tested Franchise mode out of the box
3. A over tested Franchise mode out of the box
4. A quality Franchise mode out of the box

Played 07, 08, 09 and was mostly satisfied with Franchise out of the box every year until last year. I really don't care if they add anything to the game, I only wish they would maximize time spent on the basic gameplay and the bigest feature any baseball game can have; Franchise mode. Get that right and then next year build on top of that with new stuff.
