NBA Elite 11 News Post

NBA ELITE 11 is back with the first of two gameplay videos featuring 5 on 5 action. This video is a user vs. user matchup with NBA ELITE Gameplay Producer Novell Thomas taking on NBA Community Manager Yaw Obiri-Yeboah (also known as blackflash83 on the forums) . The game is being played on a Pre-final build with some tuning left to do but it provides a good representation of how the game will play once you developed your skills with the new Hands-On control.

Be sure to check out some of the quick plays being called during half court offensive sequences (press X on the 360 to begin a quick play or the Square button on PS3) and the importance of playing the passing lanes as balls can get deflected. You have complete control this year in NBA ELITE 11.

I don't get why people are so down. It certainly seems to lack some of the fancier animations and flair from 10 but this looks like the best job yet ea has done with the fundamental b-ball stuff which was what the series has lacked most imo...

Very disappointing and I hope you EA loyals should just open your eyes and not be biased and just try playing NBA 2K. just try NBA 2K10 on a nice PC setup and you'll know what amazing and greatness is... peace to all! You are right...everyone is entitled to their opinion...I have the other game...I played it for about 2 weeks and got bored...now I'm over here hoping for something to happen...anyway - back to the topic of discussion...

Thank you...maybe most people were looking for this game to "demolish" the other one this year...maybe my expectations were lower...I'm thrilled to see EA trying a different approach than we have seen before...

It's such an uphill battle for Elite. I feel bad for the guys busting their asses on this game because there was a decision probably from someone up high to almost scrape all the progress they made last year. Now 2k is putting the stranglehold on big time, and the developers only have this. In one year's time they did a lot but it just won't be good enough for consumers. I believe the demo will help a little, but in the end, it's just too much to overcome, especially with 2k really pushing hard this year.

what...what happened to the atmosphere...that was like the strong point of the series...:/

The part that I'm blown away by is that the animations seem to have taken a MASSIVE leap backwards. Live has never had solid animations, but somehow they just got worse. It seemed everything was in warp speed. Plus the ball/rim/net interactions are still awkward as hell. I'm looking forward to the demo to see how everything feels when actually playing, but it sure isn't pretty to watch.

You are overlooking one big difference and that is the controls...doesn't that count for something when it comes to video games? Btw I played the other game for the last 5-6 years until last year I picked up both games so stop with the fanboy stuff...it's called having an opinion on what is important for my enjoyment of a game...

The passing is still way off too. The passing logic and animations are just horrible. By viewing all these vids, it is clear the defense will be at a major disadvantage user vs user.

I'll start off by saying that this is a much better showing of this game than the initial up and down 5 on 5 action that we were first exposed to. The play calling is still there, and it still looks good; unfortunately, there's not much else that I can boast about because the action that I seen in this video didn't look close to what I've grown accustom to seeing from the NBA each time I watch a game.

Everything from the dull textures of the players, to the copy and paste unenthusiastic commentary, to the way the players were interacting and performing moves.... That just wasn't the NBA basketball that I know or have known over the years (not close IMO). The lack of individuality, and player differentiation really stood out to me in this video as everyone literally looked the same to me. I seriously can't even recall seeing Amare Stoudemire out there because he along with everybody else, didn't stand out in this video (looked like generics with different numbers on their jerseys), and it looked like the users were just going through the motions of trying to play a realistic brand of basketball.

The on-ball defense also didn't look too good as the defenders stayed in their defensive stance and didn't react much to the offensive player's input on the triggers. They just went sliding along unaffected. Speaking of sliding, this could become really problematic to the court spacing with everyone being able to slide and turn on a dime without fear of being out of position knowing that the footplanting isn't up to par...

There's more problems that I have after seeing this video, but I'll just leave it alone because I've done more than enough critiquing. I will say this, there's no way I would have "sacrificed" all of the things that needed to be worked on and built upon, things that people have been asking for for years now from this series, just for the sake of "complete control", and "real time physics" (this aspect of the game I've yet to see shine through in any capacity.) Oh well, it was their decision, and they prioritized the way they did based on what they thought would best suit this game. I'll still play the demo to get the "feel" that they continuously talk about, but the action, and what I'm seeing on the court is speaking very loudly to me at this point & time.

Nice to see some sim gameplay. Definitely a lot better than the other vids.

First thing that stands out to me is that outside of the ball handling the rest of the game is the polar opposite of smooth. Things just look really clunky. Animations and play in the paint is where things seem to really get ugly, the rebounding sequence on the Knicks' last offensive position was seriously something out of Live 95. A few guys jumping in unison with the same leaping animation. Jumpers seem weird, either too flat or the ball travels too fast to the rim. Probably a combination of the both.

I wish the Bucks user would have continued on his fastbreak chance (around the 1:10 mark I think) instead of pausing on the left wing and bringing the ball out. The transition game was non-existent in Live 10, woulda been nice to see what coulda happened on that possession.

The strengths of the game look like they'll remain the same from Live 10. Playcalling and running, spacing/rotations (Gallo's one dribble pullup with that much created space just doesn't happen in the other game) and half court play in general. I also liked that the on-ball defender (in non-user controlled moments) pressured the ball on the perimeter. In L10 the CPU would sag off too far no matter who the player was.

After Live '10 I figured Elite would be a day-one purchase for me but I don't think that's the case anymore, though the demo could change it. I'll probably pick it up used in Jan-Feb for a change of pace from the other basketball game. It looks like a positive start in some aspects (no more sucked in collisions in the paint is huge) but animations are going to need major, major work going forward. Also disappointing that some guys look off visually and that Gallo, Chandler, etc didn't get a signature jumper after it was way off in L10.

Thanks for posting the vid EA.

PLEASE tell me you're still not on that kick. For real man, why do you even come to the Elite forum?

"Lower quality" is an opinion...metacritic averages a score of 82-83 for the other game and 80-81 for Live 10...not much different when you include a lot of opinions...

I'm starting to see what they are trying to do with the new controls, I can imagine this game being way more fun to "play" as opposed to how it "looks" but I'm all about gameplay, so I'm excited about the demo....I just hate that camera angle...I need my broadcast angle that makes it seem way more realistic IMO.

i agree with some of the other statements here ..this game really hasnt changed much other than the name itself...especially the same suspect herky jerky player movement...your only kidding yourself if u think this is a vast improvement over last year. and im not trying to bash this title but cmon ea this isnt gonna cut it

"looks horrible, commentators, it looks like old live, blah blah blah" not that they're wrong. they are right to an extent and can voice their opinions. the problem is no one realizes if you keep saying graphics, graphics, graphics. thats what they will end up changing the direction to graphics and animations that you cant break out of because it wont look smooth. its not about basketball its about the LOOK and nothing else is what they hear. so they will change the game to be what you want it to be. there are only a few of us who REALLy want a sim game. we are in the minority. if you dont believe it, listen to this thread. what is the biggest complaint? the look/graphical appeal. even after they told us all that graphics would suffer. so this is a get your hands on it game. even still they talk about graphics/look.

here's the deal, put up with wack graphics this year if you find out in the demo that the total control thing is great, just look wack.

next year they will combine the two. you say they change every year? not true. they are now adding on to things. they had the downloads from synergy sports that changed the basketball gaming for ever. now they are going with real time physics. this will do the same. now they need to present a better LOOKING game. they will have all year for that before nba elite 12. this is not the usual"next year" talk. they did the same thing with NHL. they revamped it. and it took a few years to be the best sports game out there so people swear.
Graphics isn't my problem in this vid although it is bad, its the on court gameplay. It was bad.

Wasn't there supposed to be another video or is that not supposed to be today?

# 98 blingballa333 @ 09/02/10 01:37 AM
The graphics certainly don't look as good as Live 10, the jerseys are especially bad. I don't what kind of texture they're using this year but the whites don't look white anymore. Too much reflection going on. Throughout that whole video I could have sworn the Knicks were wearing platinum colored jerseys.

As far as gameplay is concerned, the bad definitely outweighed the good. Overall the dribbling looked pretty good; definitely looks like you have total control over what you do. But one thing that is disappointing is the foot planting, or lack there-of. Sliding everywhere.

Also, the contact animations are really just too awkward to impress me. Just doesn't seem organic at all. The Salmons switch hand layup was just bonkers. No way anybody could have done that in real-life, it just seems that this total control concept might enable us to do unrealistic things that, ironically, defy the laws of physics when the big selling point of this game IS real-time physics.

Thanks for sharing Steve_OS....as usual brother your exclusive are great and nice quality.

After saying that, I hated almost everything about this video, from the poor camera angle that pretty much ruined it from the jump. To the hideous commentary, it was just so quiet and boring. These guys don't sound like that in real life what happened in the transition to video games?

Not feeling the player models at all either, look like they did go back to Live 09, even Dwight Howard and Lebron in the OS Screenshots looks bad. Jumpshots and animations as a whole are just not good during players movements.

No crowd movements or reactions or anything, they were Lil Jon crunk in Live 10, something there took a hit.

I'm with a lot of the other OS vets....just not feeling it at all right now. I seriously don't know what happened? I'm still loving Live 10, but Elite hasn't shown me one thing that says,"Buy".
