is it just me or does anyone else think that elite will be one of the most downloaded demo's this fall?
well alot of people will be curious to see this new system in action, the developers have been saying that some aspects of the game are hard to put into words you will just have to play and find out, I know I will be downloading it and others.
Ok i have 2 problems with the dunk on vid.... 1st: Man for that dunk to be soooo nice.... not 1 player on the laker bench showed any excitement.. Now everyone can say thats not in the game yet but ron ron was hype so why not the bench.... 2nd: Why in the hell was paul jumpin 5 feet away from ron ron and paul was jumping in the wrong direction. Not happy at all with these videos... Nba 2k11 will once again be best the game this year.... And the block shot hittin the backboard 2k had that last year
Despite all the great things I saw I will be critical, because that is what we should be, constructive criticism...
I would say that even if Artest can do that (which I think he can), he would propably not do it in real life. People mentioned Joe Johnson, I will mention Luis Scola, he can dunk, but he doesn´t dunk, even on fast breaks, this is where in my opinion video games still are a long shot of the reality, the Dunk/layup relationship are not that accurate and not close to the real deal
This would only happen 1 or 2 times in his entire career, meaning it should be very very improbable to happen, and in video games I see guys doing nasty dunks in almost every game if I wanted to, when In real life they would probably adjust the shot and make a safe layup, or just miss the dunk because they did not have enough air under them
For me it is not that big of a problem, but when you go for the signature stuff next year, you have to be more accurate in the player rantings, because if we see Artest with the variety of moves he does in real life, but we see him doing this dunk in traffic, every game, it would not feel as real as it could
That Sheed contact was not enough to impact Artest, because he was late, so when they impacted in the Air, Artest was higher and had the momentum on his side, so sheed got burned, and that is probably what we want to see from this engine, the ability to go hard to the hoop, but depending on the player we have, and the one who goes for the block, and depending also on timing, we will have different ending results wich adds deep and more realistic gaming experience.
But for this experience to be close to perfection, all the ratings, and all the numbers that will determine the end result have to be looked in detail, and this is why, (probably) we saw Artest flying out of the building on that play
rEAnimator take it as a next year observation, this year it is not a problem, it is not too unrealistic and it is probably easy to adjust his ability to dunk or to get up in the air, because that guy was flying like LBJ, everything else, great work.
Yes, you can adjust manually to avoid the block attempt. If you don't do it, you'd get the circus shot that would likely miss if the block wasn't successful due to positioning, or you'd get a successful block.
I'm glad to see you noticed that Sheed was out of position and jumped late. Currently the simple logic I was referring to was checking the difference in height of the players hips at the point of contact. This gives an advantage to the dunker if he had been in the air for longer and the defender jumped late.
It also indirectly allows player height to play a role as well.
My intention is to make this height threshold a factor of the player ratings.
I don't know the exact ratings for rasheed and artest so I don't know what impact my changes would have on this particular dunk, but like you said, with the momentum he had coming in and the late challenge that had very little momentum, I wouldn't be surprised if it still played out this way.
But depending on the ratings it may have played out slightly differently.
Like I said, I'll keep an eye out for different outcomes and see if we can get some vids posted for those.
OK, just to close off this topic for now...
I just implemented the ratings work for dunk collisions and what determines if you're forced into an adjust after contact is made.
We're now using a combination of various ratings including the dunk rating, weight, strength, momentum of the player and difference in hip height at the time of contact.
I just recorded another video for you guys demonstrating the difference the attributes make.
Assuming the video is approved for release (which I'm confident it will be) it should be released on Monday.
We can discuss further then if there are still concerns.
Someone mentioned the hype mode is in full affect. I agree and I'm not hating. I own just about every Live title since "Live 95". Every year they hype the game and that's fine. I'm sure hype alone accounts for half their sales. But let's face it, more times than not, Live has been a disappointment on next generation consoles and I'm not saying its been bad, just that its been a letdown (IMO). Like others who watched the videos, I'm seeing the sliding, the unrealistic dunk, the lack of difficulty Artest has putting that dunk down on a contest like that...and so on.
Over the past few weeks I've read posts where the developers are asking for our trust and ensuring us that this or that will be fixed by release, every time there is a criticism. All I'm saying is I hope this is true and their word is kept. Don't repeat promises of years past, because every year the mantra seems to be "it'll be fixed next year". I'm looking forward to the demo, but my anticipation factor is nowhere near what it has been in years past. I've dealt with to many years of letdowns with this title and this year it will not be a day 1 purchase for me, however it could become a pre played purchase a few weeks after release. Having said that, I am hoping for the best and hoping this is Elites year to shine and all this hype isn't just the usual talk.

Edit: when can we expect the demo?
I think it's wise to keep your expectations in check. Try the demo before you make a decision. We've made a lot of changes this year, more than you've come to expect from past years experience.
We've also had to make compromises, but in the end I think we've made the right decisions and the game is turning out to be very, very good.
And for the record, we are not going to fix every problem and none of the devs on here have made that claim.
We are working to improve in every area and the feedback we've received over the many months of hands on play tests by reviewers and community guys alike, along with early video releases and feedback from these forums has helped mold the game into something better than it would have been otherwise. But it will not be perfect so don't go in expecting that.
I am extremely proud of what we've produced, and I genuinely believe people will enjoy playing it more than any other basketball game in the past. But it may not be for everyone, so try the demo and see where you stand.
Hopefully you'll like it as much as I do
Oh, and I don't know the demo date. I'm waiting to find out just like you guys.
I honestly cannot wait until that day.
This forum is going to be a madhouse of activity and I'm looking forward to being a part of it.
Is there going to be any room/time for improvement based on demo feedback or will the game pretty much be done by that time?
That's a really good question, and I was expecting someone to ask that eventually.
I don't know if the demo will be cut from the final code or sometime before final.
Regardless though, I'd say that the core gameplay experience will be pretty much the same between the demo and the final release.
Things like the influence of ratings, how easy it is to hit a shot for each difficulty level, some minor bugs...they will likely be tuned right until the very end.
I'm actually hoping we can use data gathered from the demo to help do that final tuning.
But the core will be unchanged for the most part.
So no excuses from me once the demo drops. If you like the demo you'll like the game. If you hate the demo...well hopefully you don't hate the demo
There is always the possibility of a patch, and there may be opportunities to do some meaty changes in the patch, but the fundamental gameplay experience will be the same.
Has player authentics and player differentation been put in the game yet? Did the speed of the game change?? Thanks
The game was slowed down considerably last week I believe. The player differentiation and ratings are being added to the game right now.
Some ratings are in, some ratings still have to be added.
As I said in an earlier post, the ratings that influence in air collisions on dunks were added today, and there should be a video released on Monday showing off the results.

The hardest working man in EA keep up the good work, you have the respect of alot of people here.
Also did the graphics of the basketball court look more clearer and better and did u guys remove those cheap fouls in the game?? Another problem I had in the video that was posted was that Robin Lopez made a layup without even looking at the basket...was that issue fixed?? Thanks
I am not buying into the hype. If these devs want to show clips dont the show flawed ones. How can the Artest-Wallace clip be a demonstration of real physics when Artest's dunk animation was not affected? The only animation that changed was Wallace as he animated around the actual play. Artest kept plowing forward as if he was never touched. Silly dev doesnt realize that is not true physics and they should go back tot he lab and work on thier collision engine. Artest dunk animation should have adjusted when contacted, and Wallace should not have floated backwards when contacted in the air. There should have been an in air collision, and the player with the most momentum depending on weight on speed of movement should win. Allowing Artest to continue to amimate forward with his dunk is the same garbage that 2K basketball patched last year. Plus, why did the blocked layup look so cheap and scripted. Any ball player knows that you are taught to use the backboard in the instance. It appears he just through it up to the rim to get blocked. Not realistic at all devs.
Hello i like the way the things go so far with Nba elite 11 but i have a question about dunking because you see not so many dunks in nba live 10 its always the same are there going to be a lot more dunks layups in the game reanimator??
Like for instance the dunkpackage alone for dwayne wade of for lebron or kobe things like that and not to get alone the other dunks because it is to repetive in the game.
