I have to say I'm relieved after playing the demo (PS3). Some of the things I've seen on other boards are grossly exaggerated. The gameflow is different but not horrible and it can be turned off. The strat pad isn't as horrible as a lot of people have made it out to be, it'll just take some getting used to and memorizing what button goes with what. I had a hard time running the ball until I turned off the auto speed burst, I would get to a hole and no burst, but after turning it off everything was fine. I threw an out route to a receiver on the sideline and guess what, he didn't run straight out of bounds. Also I could actually feel the difference in different types of players for example I could feel the agility and speed of Garcon when compared to the #2 TE Santi. Overall this madden looks to be a small step up from 10, is it perfect no.... but it's better then some people have made it out to be.
Yea the passing game is sort of easy, at least in the demo on All Pro.
Agreed.
I stink at passing. But on All-Pro level, the passing seemed rather easy even for me. Slants over the middle were especially easy imo. I was able to repeatedly go right down the field throwing the same slant pass, to the same receiver, using the same play/formation. Adaptive AI at least seemed to be no where in sight. Looks like a heavy dose of sliders would be needed on All-Pro to tighten up the User passing game.
Not impressed by the demo. Its just stale for some reason, though I know partially its the stadium crowds being lame compared to NCAA. And gameflow calls way too many all-streak plays, and when its not doing that, its giving me plays where the main target is a streak route. The kick meter, as was obvious, makes kicking entirely too easy. I just can't put my finger on it. It just doesn't appeal to me. Part of it is the camera - on passing plays it zooms way out. The animations, for whatever reason, don't seem to be as good as NCAA 11. I loved Madden 10 last year, it was the best football game I had played at that point. Why this game seems so disinteresting to me, again I just have no idea. Maybe it needs to grow on me.
I'm sorry but I can't really agree with you guys on the graphics. Compared to games like NHL 10, MLB The Show, and some other PS3 games Madden looks blurry and choppy.
edit- Especially after playing the retail version of NCAA 11. Wow.
Graphics: NCAA > Madden
Lighting: NCAA > Madden
Gameplay: NCAA > Madden
Cattered completely towards the 8 year old who's never played football: Madden > NCAA
One little thing they moved is the 1st down sticks...I am all for them removing those damn cut scenes but they could have kept the sticks on the sideline..
edit nvm they're there but stay at the same place all game, hopefully this will be fixed for retail
People don't always quantify why in their minds. When I eat a cake, I don't say , "The icing was a little too sugary, but the eggs they used must have been laid that morning, because they taste fresh. The flour could've been improved upon..."
Sometimes, we just say , "mmmm, cake , awesome!!" and stick our face in it.
I guess what I'm saying is I'm sticking my face in EA, and I'm not sure why?
i have nothing to say about this post except......
just tried the ps3 demo. I liked it but something is just not right. I can't really figure it out. What I did notice right away is the beginning cut scene where Manning is getting off the bus and his head is abnormaly too small for his body. lol.
Also, why are the majority of the fans all wearing colts colors in Jets stadium? Those are just nit picky stuff though. However, it feels like the animations take longer to play out thus rendering you stuck in that animation.
I do like the game flow feature, and everything else overall. I'll purchase it just cuz I'm a NFL fan, but it's not wowing me. I was more excited last year.

You know, the more I play it, the more...incomplete it feels I guess. I just am going to see what people I trust say about full retail, if it's fun I'll get it

This is my biggest problem with the game. Well that and the terrible zone defense. So many other good things, but these 2 things are making it a rental.
Another thing is that the game simply doesn't look polished AT ALL.
This is in terms of animations. Everything seems choppy and off. In fact, pretty much all of cut-scenes and such are about the quality of Madden NFL 10 (which were also very choppy).
I know it's better than nothing, but after playing other PS3 games like Uncharted 2, MW2, God of War III, Assassin's Creed II etc, Madden is just a joke when it comes to graphics.
They need to smooth things out and make it crisper. Hell, just go into a replay in the demo and you can see how choppy and almost "blurry" the game looks. The level of detail is really crappy when you get to the nitty gritty, while other games now-a-days are pushing the consoles to their limits. And it's just not a "sports game thing" to have crappy textures. NBA 2K11 and MLB The Show look exceptional.
My question is, IF you have the headset on do you still see the text?
Yes, you do.
It was only one game, of a demo no less, so this probably doesn't mean squat other then keep watch, but the gameflow didn't seem all that intuative (I was the Colts, BTW). First, my co-ordinator liked the pass. I mean, REALLY liked the pass. Called it 18 straight times, in fact. And the situation didn't seem to play in as much as it should have. I should not be running crossing patterns with 20 seconds to go in the half and 60 yards to go for the score. Now, when it got late and I led , he did start to call for the run. On my last drive, I had three straight rushes bringing my grand total for the game up to 4 rushes and 22 passes. But again, just one game...
not sure if this has been mentioned or not. but they still havent fixed the sideline...come on now. the coaches are they same generic coaches on every sideline. and the same generic players on the sideline. hopefully they those little details are fixed with the real game.
Still love the game, blocking sucks, and i've notivced quite a bit of skating around the field by players. Player models are better than they look from the screenshots, easily the best player models in football ever, ncaa's models seem too bulky , but still excellent). Commentary isn't bad enough for me to turn it off. Locomotion seems a little loose, from ncaa, hope just effects of being a demo.
I hate your new kicking meter. I really hate you all for implementing this trashcan meter. With pure hate and undoubted rage...
Sincerely,

What's so bad about the new kicking meter? I always liked the buttoned version from the XBOX/PS2 days. It may not be the best option for everyone, but I don't see why anyone would hate it? Is it difficult for you, or too easy?
