Hopefully the devs will slow down player movement or implement a slider to let us to do it manually. And seeing as this is an early build, maybe they haven't put in footplanting yet....but I hope they go back to Live 09 as a reference point to go on.
anyone know that song playing in the background???

That said, the 7 minute video of one of the developers playing looked great so maybe it really is all about the user control. It's kind of scary though that poor users won't simply result in missed shots or turnovers, but instead chain together hideous looking animations / moves.
I'm still excited for Elite 11!

However, looking at the screenshot that was posted has already given me some insight into what's going on.
The first thing I can say is that the skating you're seeing (I haven't een the video yet so I'm guessing here) is very likely due to missing animations. I can tell from the screenshot that durant is playing an animation to go one way while the underlying physics system is moving him in another. The hint for me is how straight his leg is and the awkward angle of the body.
I could be wrong having nt watched it yet, but I'm pretty sure about that one. If that is the cause I'm not worried at all, it's an easy fix once we have all the data.
The players going through each other is what's bothering me more. Haven't seen that happen in a build for a long time. I'm hoping once I see the vid I can repro it quickly and get a fix in there.
Fortunately we have a whole QA department whose job it is to find these problems, and now that they've seen the video it shouldn't be long before I have a bug written up for this.
I can tell you that if I can get someone to reproduce this at my desk in ANT it will be a relatively simple 2-3 hour fix. One of the benefits of the tools we're using this year.
So bear with me, it's a little embarassing being my feature and all, but rest assured there's more than enough time to sort some of these problems out.
One of the dangers of releasing videos of early builds is that you might turn people off the game, but the big benefit is that you get early feedback and reaction so you can make the game better and what people want.
I think the risk is worth the benefit, so all I ask is that you try the demo when it comes out and judge us based on that. But use this opportunity to point out the things that bother you so we can fix them (and the things you like so we make sure to keep them).
And real quick, to Da_Czar, great writeup. Very well informed and well written. Looking forward to hearing more from you in the future.
Stayed away from talking about visuals im my initial E3 impressions column mainly because they say it's still an "early" build. It didn't look too pretty though to be honest as you can see.
But as far as animations and player movement, the reduction of canned animations and more user controls can make for some very quirky visuals if the user doesn't get the hang of it.

Im going add something positive.
The ability to stay in front of your man as a defender looks very promising, one sequence had Durant doing multiple moves and Lebron was just moving side to side keeping his man in front of him, not slipping and falling due to every crossover, which would have been the case in years past. I enjoyed that most from the clip and took that as a great sign for goind forward.
The hook shot was ambitious. lol
