"BACKBREAKER™ is a new, revolutionary football experience that takes you straight onto the field. Breakthrough euphoria tackles, non-canned animation, and stunning on-field graphics make BACKBREAKER™ the first truly live football game."
All this camera talk brings back vivid memories of the First Person Football mode in NFL2K5. The exact same pro's and con's are being said about Backbreaker as was said back in 2004.
The more things change the more they remain the same.
Give Backbreaker a chance. From what I've seen so far, this is a quality product.
Yea, I don't understand what is difficult to understand about what you are saying.
It feels like you are asking for options, and the others are just defending the only option we have...I don't get the "discussion". It isn't even about the same thing.
It's because people don't want to be objective. They just blindly defend. Mostly youngsters, who are in that "Us vs. them" mentality, where you can only like one brand of football games.
They love to use OS buzzwords to deflect from the fact their game does have some holes in it.

Yep. I mentioned the parallel between the mechanics of 2K's First Person Football and BackBreaker's on-field view in my impression post in this thread. Sadly, FPF was largely rejected for the same things in BackBreaker. I loved First Person Football myself, and I like the view in BackBreaker. But I'm being realistic and understanding that this one thing is going to turn a lot of people off. 2K5 was a beloved game, still is, but even most of the people who love it still have strong negatives to say about First Person Football, and I'd argue that the learning curve for FPF was nothing compared to BackBreaker's.
Then there are the post-play angles. BackBreaker again does a better job than the other guy. NM chose an above waist, tight shot of the player post-play. The two presentation elements I mentioned are critical to presentation. The fact that they nailed this in a game that's not even broadcast-oriented says a lot more about the guys who aren't doing it properly...
I only played for about a total of 5 mins yesterday (had to work) but the post-play shots are what stuck out to me. They're gorgeous!
There are no refs on the field. No field goal nets. Nobody at all on the sidelines. Camera focuses on the stadium big screen after every play. No announcers. Camera way too close. Hmm, sounds like all the complaints people had with Madden 05 which is widely considered the worst Madden ever. Cool tackles does not not make a good football game, and tackling is the only thing this game does remotely well.

Yeah they didn't focus on little things at all and the gameplay isn't good enough to make me want to ignore it.
It is definitely "different", I'll give it that. Graphics are pretty, but that should go without saying. You can watch it all day and marvel at the detail in the uniforms, etc.
The camera angle does, indeed, throw me off at times like some said. You have to get used to it.
I can see the customization for uniforms, etc. really drawing people in. My mind was wandering to that all the time as I played.
If you expect you're going to get a different experience that the norm, you may be pleasantly surprised. It won't affect my normal sports regulars, but it might add a new branch to the video game tree.

I'm sorry but you cannot compare this to Madden 06, which was the worst football game in a long time. It didn't bring anything new to the table, took out stuff it already had, and worst of all graphics weren't even that good, especially after that absurd "target trailer." Backbreaker looks and plays more like that trailer than Madden could ever hope for.
People who saying tackling is the only thing this game does well are being ridiculous.

Backbreaker may not do the little things, but it's gameplay is far better than the current generation of madden games. If you want details more than gameplay I understand your dislike of backbreaker.
In order for there to be good gameplay, I need to see what Im doing. The camera does not allow me to see what Im doing, so the gameplay suffers. If they change the camera, this game would be really good. Right now, it sucks.
I agree, all that stuff I posted (minus the camera) is all visual and adds nothing to the gameplay. Those were just things I thought I would point out since Madden haters have been harking on those things for 5 years.

The thing is, the gameplay really isn't that great. You have quarterbacks jump passing into double coverage and/or throwing it past wide open receivers all the time, blockers who don't block the person they're supposed to, the computer calling a running play on third and long, the computer offense just being generally inept, players tackling punters for no reason, kickers missing extra point-length kicks regularly, etc. This game is far from perfect and the gameplay doesn't justify the lack of little things that make a game worth playing over and over again.
Speaking of Madden, What's really sad, is that people gave Madden NFL 06 8 and 9 scores based on the brand alone. GUARANTEED if this game had MADDEN on the cover the scores would probably average a full point better. It still frustrates me that people can be so blind when it comes to Madden, especially journalists.

this game is not made to really compete (although it may) but its more of them marketing their engine so that maybe EA (and other companies) can check it out.
stop being such a fan of madden and think sometimes.maybe its the cure to the crap you have been complaining about for years.
So if you have a complaint about BB you must be a Madden lover? That is excellent logic.
