NCAA Football 11 News Post

We have just posted our hands-on NCAA Football 11 preview. Find out what Christian McLeod has to say about the game, a few months before release.

Quote:
"The NCAA series used to be my favorite sports franchise. I use the past tense because ever since the series came to current-gen consoles the gameplay quality and presentation values have taken steps backwards, culminating in the extremely disappointing NCAA Football 10.

So my mission was clear at this preview event in New York: track down those responsible for the development of the series, ask them the tough questions that the OS faithful expect and see just what was so special about this year's version of the game, especially after years of disappointment.

But before I go any further, I wanted to bring up one thing. In today’s world of yearly sports releases of varying quality, it is quite easy to scapegoat a developer or producer, placing the blame on those particular individuals for the quality of their aforementioned game. Our forum users here at OS have a somewhat notorious reputation for holding development teams to somewhat impossible standards at times -- just look at the 180-degree turn in excitement for NCAA 11 after the initial "gameplay" video was posted on site."

I really want to know what he couldn't say about the jerseys, and hearing that all the jerseys are in now is verrrrryy exciting, I seriously can't wait till July.

I'm so excited and I feel like we haven't even heard half of the new features. Still haven't said anything about dynasty mode and RTG modes yet. You would think they have big plans in improving these too.

I saw nothing in that article about long hair or dreadlocks

With that being said it all sounds great but as many have stated, I refuse to get all fired up about an article like this since we've seen it so many times in the past only to get burnt. I do look forward to the game, no question, I'm just not going to raise my expectations sky high like some of you are doing (mistakenly IMO).

I'm going to roll with my boy Mulder's saying of "I WANT TO BELIEVE" for this one...

I take this with a grain of salt..

No offense, but this is the same guy that gave NCAA '09 an A in gameplay.

I continue to hope for the best, and this sounds good. However I find it hard that a video gets accidently released.

Can't really give judgement until I try it for myself though.

I'm hoping the "secret" with jerseys is they got with Nike, UA, etc. about any special jerseys coming out this season and already having them in game. Maybe we'll have the Pro Combat jerseys in and use team colors to make any uniform combination we want.

I'm just happy the gameplay sounds SO much better and ESPN presentation makes me happy in pants.

If you dont think Madden will be equal to if not better then NCAA in the gameplay department IMO you are saddly mistaken. Madden is EA's flagship title and I am 99% sure the gameplay will be as good if not better then what he is reffering to NCAA gameplay wise.

I do think NCAA may have better presentation though, simply because they are using ESPN broadcast material. I think Madden is still going to use the EA broadcast because apparently the NFL wont let them use ESPN or NFL Network for whatever reason. I would LOVE if Madden added CBS broadcast material but I think that is wishful thinking at this point..

That's not necessarily true. On the previous gen I always thought NCAA played better than Madden. That was back in my college days and MANY people thought the same.

Co-sign. I still buy NCAA but I haven't touched Madden in years.

After reading the review... thanks OS... I am extremely curious about the Run & Shoot Offense they have listed. Thank God, Mary and Joseph they eliminated the Run & Gun which was never the same as the Run & Shoot. However, I have been following and studying this offense since seeing it for the first time in 1984 in the USFL w/ Jim Kelly and the Houston Gamblers.

There are so many little details in this offense and I will be extremely curious to see if they actually have it correct in the game. But... I am excited that the offense appears to be back. While a lot of teams utilize this scheme it was June Jones and his success at Hawaii and now, w/ SMU, that have kept this offense prominent. Here's hoping EA gets it right.

They won't get it right in the game, cmon man, we heard all last year that the playbooks were overhauled to be much more like the real teams and yet Hawai'i's playbook was nothing like what they really run in real life. And Ohio State's was also not much better (although in EA's defense they changed offenses several times throughout the year).

You guys can't be falling for all this stuff again can you? I mean nothing wrong with being optimistic but it seems some of you guys are just setting yourself up for huge disappointment here.

Just wanted you to know that the specific example I was given by Russ for the inspiration of the run and shoot was SMU.

I have several playbooks and QB manuals from the Houston Gamblers, Hawaii Warriors and NY/NJ Knights {Mouse Davis was Coach in WFL early 90's} and I know how comprehensive this scheme is. Do I believe they will have all that in the game? No. Heck, I have been asking for the Shovel Pass since 2006/07.

But... if they can at least have option routes for all 5 receivers {4 WR/ 1 RB} and the option routes are good, sensible option routes, that will be a huge step forward. Ideally they will have this along w/ timing being the key... in other words, your QB {you} makes the correct read and delivers the ball to the right WR at the right time, the reward should be good chunks of yardage. You make the wrong read or are late with the pass... that should hurt you, just as in real life.

This would also affect how you recruit WR's... not only will agility and acceleration be keys, but so would awareness. Guys w/ low AWR will not run the correct routes... man... I am cautiously optimistic that they get this down pat at last.

The OS review is something a little more tangible and provides a bit more hope. Time will tell.

No dreads this year per Roy. There were too many other critical things to fix this year. Look for them in 2012.
