I thinking its a slider to make gameplay as a whole slower, not the gap between the highest and lowest speed ratings more or less

The player models look awful. Worse than last year IMO. They look like they're from NFL blitz. These are college kids right? Ew...

Animations look kind of good, kind of bad. The QB scramble is cool, but then he just puts his head down and scrambles like a running back, then looks up to throw somehow knowing where a WR is. Eh.

I'm unimpressed. Sure, it's early, but... certainly disappointed so far.

We'd all go with the Nissan. In our case, the Nissan is 2k, while EA's football engine is the Toyota. Adding something new to a formula already broken is not how you fix things. You must correct the basics and get it up to date before you can add in all the extra things.
I feel u but there is financial thing to it, as well. Developing A WHOLE NEW FOOTBALL ENGINE, which I think is what they need due to deep rooted issues that date back to the PS2 and possibly the PS1 (CPU timeouts at the 1 min mark in the 4th quarter, when down and on D, is a classic coding that STILL exists after over a decade), is NOT a simple task.

Unless they have something cooking in the wings that we are not aware of so they DON'T have to pull their product off the market for a few years (yes, YEARS. we're talking about a completely new engine, not just new tech) and lose crazy money, they keep working with what they have which doesn't seem to be that flexible of an engine.
They are NOT going to stop a cash cow like Madden for ANYBODY as EA's stocks would take and incredible drop that would make your head spin, as well. U gotta understand the business side of it, as well. It's just not a simple thing, at all, from fixing the issues in the engine to completely re-doing the engine.

I dont like the footwork it looks horrible but some improvements were welcomed, they look like baby strides and they are floating. The running looks very stiff

As a hardcore fan, I would love for EA to redesign a realistic good working engine that will offer what we all want. But, coming from a realistic standpoint, like you said, there is a money side to this and as we all know, EA is going with the money side.

ok second look impression...the :37 mark was ABSOLUTE FAILURE!

The rest...whatever...but the wr/te whatever he is, making two...2 cuts like that without no such thing as momentum and loco...yea that is not good

I am not impressed and my expectations have taken a major hit. I hope I don't find myself saying: EA has done it yet again.....

Yeah, they have some serious damage control to get to.

Yes...these videos have quelled a lot of my excitement. Most of all I am confused?
  • Nothing like the screenshots
  • Huge players again...not college kids
  • Overdone shiny helmet effect with Ole Miss, looks discolored in the sun almost shiny brown?
  • Quirky leg and feet movements
  • Horrid spin move...seriously? you can see the animation suck him into the defender like a magnet...STILL!
  • A lot of ice skating
  • Too much red/orange overtones in the "dusk" games, the Florida unis have just never looked correct in the past few years?
  • Strange helmets that I have never seen in a college game(what is that stupid curved edge protrusion in the middle of the Texas helmet, please get rid of that crap what is it?) they look like "post-concussion" baseball helmets ala David Wright with a large bone growing down the middle...that is NOT "in the game"
  • Visuals seem too tinkered with...they just look too overdone and not natural. The screen shots looked great...video not so much. Screenshots = 9 to 10, Video = 5 to 6 rating
  • Oh and...huge players again...not college kids
Still early though, lets hope...

You are correct, unfortunately EA doesn't understand that when you disappoint people over and over for years that you lose business. What could happen is say, oh sometime in the future, like NCAA 16, they will finally release the great college game we have all been hoping for and pining for... and nobody will even be around to enjoy it.

I wasn't expecting monumental leaps and bounds in the gameplay. No way they could fix all the issues in a 1-year cycle.

With that said, there's stuff in that video that did not look good at all. The FSU DE that did the spin move past the UF OT was terrible-looking on both sides. The FSU guy had his hands tucked in during the spin and the UF guy didn't even put his hands up to try and stop the defender from getting past him.

QB's throwing perfect passes off their back foot while facing pressure shouldn't be happening in 2010. Same thing with that no-look catch by the TE in traffic after the QB scrambled and threw partially blind.

I think this game has a chance to be solid, but I think this video shows just how much more work needs to be done.

I don't think it is horrible, however, it's not WOW either. I think we will have to live this generation of football without the WOW factor. Even 2k8 didn't WOW its most loyal fans but it had solid game play and Backbreaker, well, all I can say is it does not WOW me at all. It might be a solid game, I'm not for sure, but it's gotten to the point where I just look and say, ohh another football game, sigh

Half of the clips in that vid looked like footage from '10 (the ND stuff at the end especially) and half looked like an '11 beta. It did not seem consistent throughout the entire vid. Not a good look, looks like I'll be passing on NCAA for the second straight year.

# 215 Behindshadows @ 04/20/10 12:40 AM
Not impressed, too much clipping in the movements, and it seems everyone is running on their tip-toes. The feet aren't planting into the turf. Just robotic in ways and not too natural...This is definitely a early, early build. Because the locomotion blog movement looked better and much more touched up.

But this video does no ones thoughts of the game, any justice...it looks bad!

Change of direction animations supersede the standard locomotion, so far as I can tell, otherwise you'd get double the effect and WRs would never be open. So the animation adds it's own inertia effect. The animation is about a 3 step gathering of the feet followed by a plant and drive toward the sideline, as well as getting the WRs head around to track the ball. It slows the turn down significantly.

But this is why there's no slowdown in the turn on the vid. It was happening to defensive backs in Madden 11 at CD... so the WR would cut, and the DB would simply turn like that, and the DB would be running ahead of the WR. It happened now and then in Madden 10, but it is being addressed (these sorts of gameplay issues are shared between the two games).

That Illinois player running and spinning in slo mo was disgustingly bad. The slo mo made it look even worse. Definately disappointed by this video, and I am a big NCAA supporter, despite the struggles in recent years. Hoping the new presentation and upcoming dynasty info can get this bad taste out of my mouth.

# 218 canes21 @ 04/20/10 12:42 AM
So, it will actually look and act like a realistic cut instead of them just doing a cosmetic cut? Thats a lot more relieving.

A cosmetic cut? That just doesn't sound right... ha

# 219 dmick4324 @ 04/20/10 12:42 AM
Kinda confused why EA would allow that spin move to be shown? Psh was that ugly. Unfortunately I'll have to admit that I certainly saw more negatives than positives in that video. I think what it comes down to for me is that the juke move just doesn't look right, my opinion of course. Add me to the list of people with diminishing excitement. I'm not giving up on the game just yet as I played NCAA 10 waaay longer than 09, and if anything 11 looks similar to 10 which isn't the worst thing.
