MLB 2K10 News Post

2K Sports has just posted their Major League Baseball 2K10 MLB Developer Insight, focusing on art direction.

Quote:
"We went through all the stadiums and scrutinized the architectural details and nuances, in an effort to correct anything we saw that has changed since the previous MLB season. We also introduced some new stadiums not in last year’s game. I’m sure you’ll all be excited to see the new Target Field in Minnesota. We worked off of the blueprints of the actual stadium so our stadium will be spot on in terms of accuracy for Twins fans.

We paid a lot of attention to the fields this year, introducing new technology to the dirt which better portrays wetness, degradation, moisture, rake, wear, and traffic. The grass is equally as sophisticated. We took into account the same lighting properties with our dirt, as well as the actual mow patterns for each stadium. We even went as far as taking into consideration the type & length of grass, and the direction it is mowed. I guess you can say we are a little obsessed with grass tech from our football days. We are sticklers for accuracy because we aim to please our simulation fans everywhere!

The environments capture each ballpark’s look and feel and showcase their specific celebrations, ads, scoreboards, and fans accordingly. We made sure to balance the ads within the parks and colors to mimic life, and you will see more real life advertisement slots and sizes than in MLB 2K9. In general, we wanted the environments to capture the real essence of baseball, but differently for the various stadiums across the league."

Wow!! The stadiums look awesome this year, but am disappointed about not having scores on the out of town scoreboards.

The stadiums look spot on though this year. No more overt advertising the stadiums.

I barely played it last year and didn't enjoy the experience at all. Tropicana field looked awful as there were literally dozens of pepsi signs all over the field. Looks promising thus far.

The jersey and hat definitely looks improved over last year. The glove still looks clayish, and not real but the unis are definitely improved.

The face went from squeezing one out to stoned though,

Wonder why the mention of out of town scoreboards was deleted?

You'll be please to know that we do have fully fonctional, out-of-town scores where dictated by the real stadiums in 2k10.

I like what I read about the stadiums I just want to know if they have vendors and fans walking throughout the stadium and up and down the aisles. Also I want to know about the player editor if it has the same limitations as last year? I want to know we have total control when editing NO LIMITATIONS.

I know, I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully it wasn't a mistake because that would be a dissapointment.

Alan, it's nice to see you here. Happy New Year. My question is was Image Metrics a thought when creating the new skeleton for the Improved Player Models?

Also will there be a Insight talking about Animations @ all, because Bad Animations have plagued this series for many years.

Again thanks for your time & let the rest of the Art Team know we appreciate the work you guys put into what you do

Only a small sample size, but definitely digging the new lighting in 2K10 comparative to 2K9. And the hats again look better. WTF is with the B in 2K9???

Game does look better from these shots.

Nice write-up. There was a lot of good information and looks like they addressed some nagging things that have plagued the series. Now they have to get somebody working on those gloves, lol.

I'm glad they focused on making day games look like an actual day game. In past 2k baseball games, the day time lighting sucked.

Oh yeah, and making a night game look like the lights are actually on. In 2k8, it looked like you were playing under just one set of lights. It was way too dark.

Take out slides are back too!

I'm definitely getting this game.
