Great impressions guys, keep 'em coming

I plan to take a nap and then dive right into sim stats. Hopefully I will have something hammered out by mid-day (Left Coast Time).

I had a pretty good set pre-patch, and honestly the thing I was having the most trouble with was running back touchdowns and tackles, which appear to be the only things that they fixed

I have a ?, on CPU settings, is going right make it harder or going left? For user it says going left make it easier and right harder? Maybe i need to do some tweaking with the sliders, but right now on default, its broken, especially the flats. Also still no pass rush at all, the d-men still stick to the o-men, nomatter what u do. Im playing on default, 50 for everything. Can anybody help???
Could you getting torn up have anything to do with you playing the freaking Saints?

With my slider set, the flats are only open if they should be. Im playing with the Titans and im using a base d for most plays and blitzing when neccessary and thats the only time the flats are open is when i leave them open.

Ive yet to see the qb hold onto to the ball. I have seen him throw it away, those are quick impressions.

Default All pro.

I went into practice to test out the flats/hook zones.

CB's in cover 2 are playing the flat much better. The safety's sit a little deep in cover 2.

LB's playing the flat in cover 3 get there a lot quicker, but they do some odd things from time to time, even when the ball is thrown right at them.

Defenders in yellow hook zones are inconsistent from what I've seen. Just running drags underneath them, I've seen them react really well, and keep it to a 2-3 yard gain if caught, and I've also seen them not react at all. They still sit a little too deep to begin with.

LB's covering RB's in man to man on swing passes do take better angles, but if the tight end is on the same side as the RB, the LB will struggle.

I haven't seen any horrible pursuit angles yet.

I just played one game as the Steelers vs the Jets on All Pro, default everything. I got rolled 38-10. Sanchez was a beast and had all day in the pocket, I still dont understand how to get pressure on the QB in this game.

Still it all felt much smoother and blocking seemed to be improved. But auto replays were still as rare as hen's teeth for me. I saw a grand total of one on TD's. And yes I am on advanced play calling.

To be honest I was not blown away by this patch but I'm willing to try and let it grow on me. I've waited this long so I'm going to try and have fun. I hope you guys do also.

No you don't. In my impressions I said I played a game from an existing franchise.

Sounds reasonable.

I don't know if it's just because I'm in practice, but the ball is spinnin up a storm in my replays.

# 31 nickysantoro360 @ 12/10/09 09:27 AM
The flats are most definitely played better by CBs in Cover 2 in non bunch formations, BUT I just tried gun snugs and double flats cheesers throwing to the slot men are still going to have a field day as the Cover 2 corners are still as dumb as ever (they always bite on the hook route first, ALWAYS). Note I tested gun snugs against the Jets using the phins in all pro (like online).

Has the thought crossed your mind the awareness for Corners in this game's roster are too low?
Compared to recievers that is...

-Speed of the game has been tuned. I was playing on Very Slow and it feels slower than pre-patch.

-Blocking is a lot better. Like I said a few posts before, the o-line will actually try to get a seal on outside runs. I also had a TD run where my FB Mike Tolbert ran out and blocked the safety about 10 yards downfield, something I never saw pre patch.

-Passing is better. I say this because IMO it feels like they toned down those superman jumping swats. There were quite a few passing plays where before this patch I know for a fact I wouldn't have been able to complete the pass because a defender would have swatted the ball but now I can make those throws.

Here's a video of a pass that would have been swatted down before but not anymore post patch:

EA Sports: Madden NFL 10 Video Highlight

-CPU QB gets rid of the ball before a sack less frequently and also at much better times. I got 4 sacks this game on Jason Campbell and the times where I did get to him and he threw it away, it was realistic. One was when I came from his blindside and hit him as he was already throwing and the other was when I came right down the middle at him and he threw it away. None of those high duck passes happened either.

-Wire camera is fixed. My video above shows that it is fixed. Before it used to start off zoomed in really close but its fixed now. Replays for the most part last longer. On some of my TD runs it showed the celebration instead of cutting off as soon as the ball crossed the goal line. There was one weird replay though that cut off as the ball was being thrown.

Here's an example of replays lasting longer than before:

EA Sports: Madden NFL 10 Video Highlight

-On kickoffs the player you control doesn't get knocked on his *** every time.

-CPU throws to their best receiver a lot more. Brandon Marshall was the Broncos leading receiver with 5 catches.

-CPU throws to the outside more instead of over the middle.

-No more CPU sell out blitzes on 3rd down.

-There are replays after TD's now but not every time. Another thing is there were 2 TD replays that came up but cut off as they were starting and I didn't press A to skip them.

-Chain gang cutscene didn't come up once for me, which is a good thing as before you would see it every game.

-Adaptive AI adapts faster now.

That's about it off the top of my head. All in all I'm really, really happy with how the game plays now. Hopefully no issues pop up because that game I just played was one of the better games of Madden 10 I've played even though it was a blowout.
Thanks for that. Good to see things being worked out.

Yeah 0 sacks for me as well. I was uber frustrated but I'm going to give it 10 games or so before I make up my mind. It just smarts when the CPU is getting to your QB within a few seconds and you can't return the favour!

The AI pass coverage still seemed quite psychic to me. I couldn't get seperation with guys like Ward. Also I gave up two pick sixes in one on one coverage, where my WR went for the over the shoulder catch and the CB just jumped up in front of him for the easy INT. That is one niggle I would dearly love to see fixed.

I did some practice mode stuff and I can also confirm the flats being better. Guys really fly to their spot in the flats. The Cover 2 CB's play the flats hard, but still do fall back if no flats threat is present. I bolded this because people were complaining about the cover 2 being too far open. No... it's done right now just like I suspected. So this is to confirm for people that are worried.... it's done right now.

# 36 BroMontana82 @ 12/10/09 09:51 AM
BlueNGold or anyone else, you said that the CPU doesn't do the all out blitz in situations they shouldn't. Have you seen this over the spam of a few games? Is this with default Coaching Sliders?

I noticed the bolded part as well. Played two online games this morning and both were great. Didn't seem like anything dramatic was done to the game, but I definitely noticed an improvement. The game just feels a little tighter.

i'm on ps3 but i saw the cpu blitz me when a neccessary all out blitzes two i had them coming from the LB , safety and cbs alot of times two of them at the same time, but i don't think its over done

# 39 ChicagoChris @ 12/10/09 10:13 AM
The changes are subtle but you will absolutely notice the difference first game. Here is what I noticed (default All Madden):

+ Better o-line blocking: lineman seem to pick up the D players better. I saw some very nice blocking on run plays. Also saw some excellent blitz pickup from my RB.

+ Pass D is tighter: as other have mentioned.
+ CPU QB takes the sack: ex. I played Jax at Mia. I blitzed the CB and he hit Henne. Instead of Henne lame duck throwing it out of the sack animation, he took the sack and fumbled it. Looks WAY more natural.

+ Kick returns seem tighter
+ game plays generally more smooth

Nice patch IMO.

First of all, you could have made your point without coming across and sounding like an *******.

Second: I'm using the phins receivers, which are pretty much the worst in the game. And the Jets Corners give me a good idea of how a really great CB (Revis) and a more typical starting corner (Sheppard I think) will play those routes.
