Let's see how it goes first. I think PS3 owners are anticipating the problems we already stated.

If it gets out of hand, we'll lock this down, and start a new one with all that info. outlined. I'm not closed to the idea, just want to play it by ear first.

Just downloaded the patch (PS3) and played a quick game with the Bulls Vs the Cavs on Pro with default sliders.

With all the bad comments I wasnt expecting to be that pleased.. but so far I can honestly say I have seen nothing but good changes from this patch. I dont know if the overtime bug is in there but the game feels a lot better overall and looks a lot better in motion too.

  • Much smoother
  • Rebounding is much much better and feels realistic
  • Blocking and contesting is much much better and more realistic
  • Post game feels a lot more solid and controlable
  • Ball handling moves feel better
  • CPU is more agressive and plays with more purpose
  • The ball doesnt seem to float as much, noticeable on long range hurls - more realistic.
  • Runners and tear drops much easier to do
  • Fat big men like Shaq dont seem to get off the ground as much, looks and feels more realistic on rebound and dunking.
In the one game i've played this seems like a very good patch. I havent seen the OT bugs and stuff yet but as far as gameplay goes it feels like a good improvement, the greately improved rebounding and blocking really help the flow and realism of the game. I cant see how this patch has ruined the game or made it unplayable (as some have claimed) at all

DLing now, here goes nothing...

Can anyone comment on the perimeter players stepping in too far on penetrate n pitch/kickout type situations?

Quick impressions of default All-Star...

The game is easily better, OS is so funny with it's over reactions. A few tweaks will def be needed in the 2nd patch though.

- The game is smoother, some animations looks a lot better and the transition from animation to animation is better.

- Rebounding is better, saw a more natural offensive rebound. Guys who look like they should get the rebound when the ball is in mid-air do wind up with it from what I can tell. Pre-patch it was dumb, my guy would have great position AND be a better rebounder in terms of rating but for some reason he wouldn't get the board on the offensive glass.

- Contact in the paint and FT's!! Yes, the biggie for me. This is completely fixed in terms of what I wanted.

- Steals and interceptions look smoother.

- Controls feel a little better/more responsive.

- CPU pushes the ball up the court a lot more

GRIPES:

- Along with the CPU pushing the ball up the court the CPU definitely looks for too many quick jumpers. One pass, jumper. Two passes, jumper. Kick out off an off rebound (oh crap I didn't even notice it happened until I just typed this) and immediate jumper. This doesn't happen all the time as the CPU will go to the hoop (KD has taken 4 FT's against me in 7 minutes already) and will run plays but it should be tweaked in the 2nd patch.

Right now it feels like the CPU AI isn't quite sure when to stop attempting a fastbreak/look for a quick shot and run a set. So far about 60% of the CPU's possessions have been a quick shot after a pass or two, definitely not ideal.

Overall Patch 1 is definitely nice. Had a couple kickout type plays and my guys stayed behind the 3pt line which is awesome to see. So far so good, it'll be interesting after more time with the game to see how things look.

BTW: Knicks fans, did they just add the "Danillllo Gallinaaari" to the PA at MSG in this game? I don't remember hearing it pre-patch and it's pretty damn obvious (and kinda annoying haha) when you hear it IRL. I don't think I woulda missed it if it was in Live.

Dang... I've got class right now. I feel like saying I've got bowel problems so I can go DL this right now lol.

Mr T says I should stay in school though.

Another thing is that the loose ball logic is better in terms of your CPU teammates. Pre-patch I felt like the CPU got to almost every loose ball and were way more aggressive in pursuing it while your CPU teammates sat there doing nothing. There were two lose balls in my first quarter of testing and my CPU teammate hustled and got both balls - I don't think I saw that a single time pre-patch.

I havent noticed this.. maybe I wasnt looking for it but I did see Delonte West take a number of open Js off Mo and Lebron driving and kicking. This was the CPU though, on my side Salmons broke away from his man to get some open 3s (which he missed I guess to do with the DNA tracking his slump in real life). Next time I play I will deliberately drive and kick to see what goes on.. but I get plenty of open looks from behind the arc when I played a little earlier.

Yeah it's not there for me, been hitting my guys in the corner regularly for 3PAs

More on the quick CPU shooting...

Assuming this gets tweaked in the 2nd patch I like what I'm seeing in terms of the CPU aggressiveness now. All those "the CPU plays like a robot and doesn't hit open men or take open shots" problems are gone from what I've seen so far. If KD is open with 25 feet of the hoop he's taken the shot which is awesome. If Harden is open he's pulling the trigger even if it breaks up a play. CPU is way more aggressive, just gotta make 'em a little smarter to determine what's a good shot and what isn't. And that's a key too, despite al ot of quick shots from the CPU I've only seen one real bad shot and that was a Westbrook fadeaway 3 with a hand in his face. Besides that every shot was a good look, just might have been too quick.

There is also more isolation by the CPU which there really wasn't pre-patch, tons of set plays more than "Kobe, go get 'em" KD has iso'd quite a bit and Westbrook has gotten a few turns too.

It'll be interesting to see the post game stats, see how many shots Durant takes in a 48 min game.

Blocks are also immensely improved, I just saw my first blocked shot by the CPU and I'm almost at half time and I've gotten into the paint a decent amount. The block was 100% legit too, Hughes came off a dribble hand off coming down the left side of the paint and Etan Thomas left his man on the right block to deny me at the rim. Saved the replay, but it was nice and realistic. This is on default all-star too, impressive.

Yep, this is probably the biggest improvement of them all and the most immediately obvious.

The blocks now only happen if the player contesting the shot actually has the right angle and conects with the ball. No more jumping up next to someone, facing the other way and the ball flying off bizarely.. it is just so much better.

The collision detection between the players and ball just seems a lot better overall, it helps the rebounding and the blocking be a lot more realistic.. I havent seen one "wtf" moment since the patch in this area.

I have noticed the CPU can take some quick shots.. but I think this may have to do with them now taking open Js more and generally being more awake. West took a semi open 3 with 18 seconds left on the clock.. off one pass. Its great when the CPU finds the open man and he immediately shoots it.. but sometimes they are a bit too eager.

Also something I would like fixed.. the music on end of quarters and halftimes doesnt come on half the time. This kills the atmosphere a little.. I realise there were more important things to fix but It would be nice if this was looked into..

no better feeling in this game than defending off ball, watching the cpu drive the lane, coming over and getting a perfectly timed block. feels so sweet, especially blocking the shots where the ball is still on the way up.

Exactly, the CPU is way more awake/alert/aggressive on offense, whatever term you want to use. Some people will complain about the quick shots at times and I hope it does get tweaked but I'll take the post-patch CPU offense 8 days a week over the pre-patch. It is good that they force things sometimes because that happens IRL as well, esp with stars.

No more mindless CPU robots post-patch. I got an awesome vid I'm gonna upload that shows this so well.

Man, CV is gonna be upset he won't be able to say his patented "Live 10 is a good half-court game and nothing more" line.

The Thunder are breaking, pushing the ball and getting to the rim against me in transition.

Sorry I haven't read the entire thread but is the patch out for the ps3 now?

# 636 ehh @ 11/05/09 10:57 AM
Yeah ^.

More good stuff...

The "rocket dunks" are gone from what I've seen. A decent amount of offensive boards and I haven't see none dunk on a putback attempt, awesome. Also had a David Lee dunk get blocked and goaltending was not called!

I can't for the life of me figure out how anyone would say that this patch "broke" or made the game worse.

Alright, I've had enough of this, every year us ps3 users have to put up with waiting at least a week to play the live demo AFTER the 360 users, and now the same is being done with the patch. Despite this I've tried to be patient but its been more than a week now, whats going on? and why are the people that have the ps3 always being treated as leftovers. Everyone who reads this knows there's truth to this, its not right.

# 639 ehh @ 11/05/09 11:13 AM
You do realize the patch came out this morning for PS3, right?

Any tips for drawing user fouls. The biggest issue is the lack of fteethrow attempts. that's my biggest gripe.
