NBA 2K10 News Post

It has been an exciting 10 years for the NBA 2K series and basketball gamers alike. After the first installment in 1999, NBA 2K soon became a staple in the hoops genre. The series has provided an enjoyable playing experience for casual gamers while presenting a good enough challenge for those with insane stick skills. The franchise has also been known for dishing out a realistic NBA experience that allows basketball junkies like myself to live out their hoop dreams through our gaming consoles.

With perennial All-Star Kobe Bryant starring as the game's front man, NBA 2K10 aims to accomplish the same goal as its cover athlete: defend its championship crown. But like all things from which greatness is expected, the level of expectations are high. A decade since its introduction, can NBA 2K10 still rise up to the challenge?

Cool Review. 8.5 keeps it consistent with other sites and the write confirms only thing 2k has over the competition now is Presentation and Animations. The talk about A.I. got pounded.

I didn't bother playing the demo because Jskywalker had already told me how the Final version plays ahead of time.

Now granted this is only my 2nd year playing 2K basketball so i'm still getting use to the controls. But since every thing is new and fresh to me and I don't see the issues the same way some guys that have played 2K for years might see them.

I've played about 6 games and IMO after reading this review I'd say the game is very close to how he rated it and that's without any tweaks.

I started messing with some sliders after about my 3rd game and to me this game is pretty damn sick with correct sliders. I absolutely love the animations and how the players just seem to be themselves on the floor. I was very impressed with some of the things I've seen from the CPU players in this game. I've never seen any CPU AI in a basketball game perform and behave the way I'm seeing the AI in 2K10 handle their business on the floor.

Some people might hate the AI throwing alley oop's but to me I can't think of any other game where I've seen it executed so realistic during actual gameplay. Now maybe it's because I'm new to just about everything 2K has to offer in this game but man i feel like i'm in hoops heaven when i play the CPU right now.

If i had one knock against the review I'd rate it higher in terms of annoucing because Harlan and Kellog do a wonderful job and that was just based on my exhibition games without getting into a season mode yet.

you're right. IMO I would give this game an 8.8 or even 9 to be honest. It's a good game.

true man, but every team has like at least 4 offensive sets where there are like 4 or 5 different options. and sometimes you got some hog on the team that deviates from the offence and goes "yeah i want a pick and roll so i can score ". so yeah there probably is a substancial amount of playcalling involved.

but really, instead of these new position specific plays they introduced, id rather that the plays that you DO choose to be run through much more smoothly and faster like a real game instead of waiting like a douche with the pg at the 3pt line for like 12 seconds and then having to go 1 on 1 anyway cos the shot clock is going down.

Maybe just because you've played the game one time, but 2K10 is the best basketball game of all time!! When I've first seen the game, (when the demo is out..) My thought is " what a game, the game is poor, it seems like 2k9 etc.." because I don't take enough time to play the demo. As a big fan of Bryant, even the jumper make me so nervous..OK...but tomorrow, I take my time to play the demo fully..and now, I see all the things they do in the game, the game looks so realistic..My brother too, when he first see the game he had the same idea

the game looks pretty good, and more than I hope..Some of us talk about live, but I've playing live a long time ago, and Live 10 is like the others..Maybe they do more improvements on Gameplay, but the game still be an arcade game..Live is just for exhibition game, just for a feeling..you can't play live during a full season! Live 10, when I see the trailers, and when I play the demo..I laugh! The game looks so bad, and the same animation repeat again and again and again!..guys moving like sponge, jumpers, don't talk about this..the guys doesn't look like as real..the game is very poor...I don't know why some of us talk about live as a opponent of 2K..there's no comparison!! 2K is the best basketball game..It's not just because you've seen some 2k' gameplay on internet, guys on internet 80% of them play the game so bad! When you play the game nicely, now you see all the diference between both of 'em..Maybe it's because Live's Fans play 2K10 (they do that all time on youtube) they play the game so bad just to show us that the game is not good.. but never, you'll see a 2K fan, play live...NEVER!! so It's not just because I'm 2K now (1995-2003 I've been a real EA fan), it's just the game..guys on 2k do a great job on this game..9.6, it's my note...

Good read.

good review but yeah, a lot can be fixed with sliders like the shot percentages and some of the big problems like frame rate were not mentioned.

They are also a historical reference...and I'm pretty sure NBA 2K9 got a 9/10 rating.

That's unfortunate as there's just no way in hell that 2K10 is not better than 2K9.

Madden 10 getting a 9 and NBA 2K9's review both will kind of go down as Op Spots "things that make you go hmmmmmmm" moments.
Last year, 2K got an 8.5 from IGN and an 8 from Gamestop.
I've had 2k10 since Fri night and IMO it's better than 2K9. I'm not having any framerate issues either.

After you save it to your hard drive, adjust a few sliders and make a couple of personal tweaks to your liking (player edits, etc)...the game is great! No game is perfect out of the box...Commentary is fresh and the players look real. Once you learn this year's version of Isomotion it will be even better for you. I recommend practicing/scrimmaging until you feel comfortable with the controls.

Still the champ!

Yeah I can't wait to play the game today. I am kind of worried by all of the negative comments about this game that ive been reading for the past week and people posting videos about 2K10 and its problems. Im hoping some of these people are making issues bigger than what they are and the game is great.

I detested 2k9, and I just do not get the feel that it is a major step up from 2k9, to warrant a immediate purchase. Nothing I have seen or read has made me feel any different.

I may rent before buying, in a couple of weeks, but I'm no hurry.

# 33 blues rocker @ 10/06/09 08:52 AM
Sorry, but this rating is too high. It should get about and 8.0 to 8.2. 2k's player movement is still clunky and sluggish, the CPU teams don't play closely enough to their real life counterparts, and the defensive AI is pretty weak.

# 34 Eddie1967 @ 10/06/09 09:24 AM
Nice review. I would give it a 9 because my expectations have been exceeded in a major way, but still an excellent game of basketball nonetheless.

You said it, it feels robotic. Live may look cartoony but simulates the real thing pretty well. The passing in 2k need help also.

Am I going crazy or what, this game is not playable. What are you guys talking about? The isomotion is just terrible, thats plain and simple. The dribbling is a joke in this game, the passing game is ********. The game is a dunk fest!! I mean, seriously. I have been playing 2k since 2007 but this year I tried the live demo and I was very impressed by how fluid the controls were. I am going with LIve this year. No doubt about it.

Gonna have to third that unfortunately. I can't even bring myself to take OS reviews seriously anymore mainly because there's seems to be no consistency to the way these games are being judged. There's no way in hell Madden is a better football game than either 2K10 or Live are basketball games. I get that different people are reviewing the games and the scores are all subjective, but it's also too easy an excuse and has gone on too long. I stopped taking IGN/Gamespot/TeamXbox/etc. sports game reviews seriously a long time ago for the same reason; may as well add OS to the list. Tired of seeing sports games judged by constantly differing standards. At least it seems the general public is tired of it too, and aren't giving the reviews the weight they should have.

# 38 BlackRome @ 10/06/09 11:26 AM
Am I the only one who thinks the game is to slow.

I'm still pushing the button and waiting for my man to react or hopefully get out of some animation.

I found that when I boost the speed up to 55-60 it plays much better.

# 39 Daseffects @ 10/06/09 11:26 AM
I've had the game since saturday, and everyone say sliders can fix the game. Sliders can't fix framerate in some arenas. Hard to believe it was not mentioned in the review.

good review overall.
