NBA 2K10 News Post

It has been an exciting 10 years for the NBA 2K series and basketball gamers alike. After the first installment in 1999, NBA 2K soon became a staple in the hoops genre. The series has provided an enjoyable playing experience for casual gamers while presenting a good enough challenge for those with insane stick skills. The franchise has also been known for dishing out a realistic NBA experience that allows basketball junkies like myself to live out their hoop dreams through our gaming consoles.

With perennial All-Star Kobe Bryant starring as the game's front man, NBA 2K10 aims to accomplish the same goal as its cover athlete: defend its championship crown. But like all things from which greatness is expected, the level of expectations are high. A decade since its introduction, can NBA 2K10 still rise up to the challenge?

The game is clunky. The movement is still terrible like last year.

Basketball is a game of small steps. The way the game is set up you take one step at a time. It makes the game slow and unresponsive.

Offline this can be fixed by bumping the speed up to 55-57.

When I play with the speed bumped up all of a sudden the small steps that are constantly made on a basketball court are apparent. Where do you think the squeaky sneakers on the hardwood come from.

Online this is going to be a problem. I don't see 2k bumping the speed up for the game online. Which to me will makes the game unplayable. For some reason the game has become less responsive every year since 2k7.

Since I only play online I'm headed out right now to by Live.

Fair review in my opinion. I haven't yet picked this game up but I sure played the heck out of the 360 demo. I tried the PS3 Live 10 demo, played two games and deleted it. Just too cartoony for me but I did enjoy playing around in the hangar. Has anyone heard anything with regards to frame rate differences between 2K10 on the 360 vs PS3? Thanks in advance for any input.

Well they make a thread about the review for people to discuss it. If a score doesn't matter then they should just review the game and give no score at all, but they don't.
that's the logic behind the review - great observation man. TD rated it based on NOW, and what the game presents to us in 2009.

You can't give it a 9.5 simply because it's better than 2k9. That would be inflation in ratings like you all are agueing.

Man I absolutely love this game! If I can just learn how to do the post moves the CPU did in the draft combine, I couldn't ask for much more!

Also for those saying the dribbling system isn't responsive probably haven't takin the the time to get comfortable with the controls. When handling the ball, you have to actually execute a move like you would in real life. You can't crossover into a defender that's plaing the the cross, you will be bumped out of the move to protect the ball. It's the most authentic system I have seen to date, compared to it's real world counterpart. I really need help with my post game though!

Why no mention of framerate though seriously? For me validating this as a great review just can't happen without mentioning the framerate. The framerate issue definetly has to do with what team u play as and there stadium and the camera you choose to use. Unfortunatly I'm a raptors fan who likes to play with the 2k camera option. Air Canada center on broadcast came lags bad enough it should have been at least mentioned. 2k cam and when playing there in my player mode it's virtualy unplayable. Agree with everything in the review I just tottaly and completely don't understand how framerate issues were left out.

Well I must regress, I finally had the game by myself, no buddies. I mainly play online and that is when I ran into the ugly monster otherwise known as the 2k server. It's ridiculous, games constantly dropped by the server. I bought the game for the online experience and this is what we get. It's frustrating! But, offline I love it. I don't like playing the computer, I don't know what I gonna do. Oh well.

Yea fellas the game is different from last year's game but it makes you play basketball. We all know that 2k has some server issues but it will get better. The iso is difficult but take it as a challenge and learn it. I agree with the previous posts about the 2k cam issues. Thats the game's signature cam but it is the broken.

Please. They're really not even comparable. As I said in the other thread - there's no talk of some 5yr old last gen basketball game still being better than 2K10. Of people hoping 2K10 adds some last gen feature it hasn't gotten around to adding. Madden can't even put to rest comparisons to 2K5 five years into next gen after having NFL exclusivity all to itself. Completely ridiculous at this point, and goes to show just how expectations differ when it comes to either title. Madden's next gen ineptness has done more to raise 2K5's profile than 2K5 itself did - 2K5 as a game has essentially stood still for the past five years.

And it's not just 2K5. Madden 10 hasn't squashed talk of the superiority of it's own last gen game, or APF. All that and OS feels Madden represents football better than 2K10 represents basketball, based on how these games are scored. Sadly OS's reviews now no longer carry any more weight than an IGN or TeamXBox sports game review imo
