Madden 2010 News Post

Hey guys -

We're back in full force now after our wind-down, and we've been working on a "FAQ" blog to put out. Posting on forums and answering questions directly on Twitter just hasn't been widespread enough (since we keep getting the same questions asked), so this seemed like the best logical idea.

I've definitely been trying to read everything from the community, but I figured I'd open it up to make sure we gather all the most important questions in one place. We'll close this up by the weekend and try to have the blog out next week.

ONE REQUEST: NO DISCUSSION - JUST QUESTIONS.

To get the big one out of the way:

"When is the first title update coming out, and what is in it?"

The first patch is done on our end and in the hands of 3rd party for approvals, so I *think* we'll be able to release all the details about what's in the 1st title update in the official FAQ blog.

So...fire away!

Why were some of the custom QB real voice cadences removed? Romo in particular.

Thanks!

What's wrong my fellow Tennesseean?

This thread is perfect for what I need. A one stop shop for the top questions. I'll answer them in a blog that we release next week.

Will the Wildcat be patched so the QB can scramble? I'm talking mainly about the ability to scramble out of a pass play. Instead of being able to scramble the QB just shuffles in the pocket.

What's your problem? People are asking questions like the thread stated. If you don't have anything to contribute then why are you in here?

What's going on with "Broadcast Camera"?

The rest of the game related issues are laid out all over the Madden threads. Really too many to address let alone release this title early and the biggest by far are gameplay issues and broadcast camera!

Address those first please

will man align be fixed?

will defenders still ignore offensive players in their zone until the ball is released?

-Will DBs cutting on routes at the EXACT same time as the receivers (sometimes they even cut before the receivers do) be fixed?

-Will DBs in perfect position to make plays yet just stand there and do nothing even when you mash on the swat button be fixed? For those that call this a minor annoyance, I will ask: Would it be OK if the same thing happened to your QB when trying to throw the ball?

-Will CPU LBs and DTs that drop back in coverage and stand there and watch balls literally sail right over their heads to receivers standing directly behind them be fixed?

-What happened to custom stadium sounds like the Lions siren that plays when they score a touchdown, or the lion roar that happens on first downs? It was in the game last year (and the year before that) if I remember correctly.

-I have had three games now where the first play of the game the CPU RB breaks out of a 4-6 man Pro-Tack "scrum" and runs for a 65+ yard touchdown. Can this be toned down?

-Will receivers having no sense of the sidelines at all be fixed?

-Will suction blocking be fixed?

-WRs don't go and get or battle for the ball enough. They are just content to do the good ole' "right in the bread basket" catch, which is totally useless in most situations. Will this be fixed?

-Still can't get pressure on the QB, and even if you do get to the QB, the CPU refuses to take sacks and always "magically" finds an open receiver just before getting hit. Will this be fixed?

-Will physics on batted passes be fixed? The ball should be going straight to the ground in most instances, not bouncing off guys leg or bodies and then magically floating in the air for the safety or LB to intercept.

-Zone coverage is broken altogether, and safties in zone don't always break their coverage assignment and come to make a tackle when the offense calls a run play. Will this be fixed?

-Will Pass rushers with a clear shot at the QB inexplicably changing directions and delaying sacking the QB be fixed?

-As mentioned numerous times, passing to the flats is way too easy, as is beating the CPU when they blitz. Almost every time the CPU blitzes there is a man wide open that can gain HUGE amounts of yards if not a touchdown. Will this be fixed?

-Will seeing more variety in penalty calls be fixed? (e.g. Defensive Holding, Pass interference, etc...)

-CPU quick snap is still alive and well and is flat out terrible on Field Goal attempts, will this be fixed?

-DB and WR jostling is barely present, will this be fixed?

-Adaptive AI isn't working properly, will this be fixed?

-Wide receivers in the run and return game (especially on breakaway runs) turn and block the wrong guy, allowing defenders to make plays on you that they shouldn't have been able to. Will this be fixed?

-Will Lower rated DTs coming off their blocks too easily and making plays on runs up the middle be fixed?

-On kick returns there are still blockers that sometimes run all the way downfield past the defenders and towards the end zone (all the while blocking not one soul), will this be fixed?

-Toss and sweep plays still get blown up way too much for lost yardage. Ditto for screen plays (there always seems to be a DT that is standing right next to my RB, even if that's the first time I called that play). Will this be fixed?

-CPU still punts the ball through the end zone instead of trying to pin me deep, will this be fixed?

-WRs on some plays (curl routes especially) just stand there frozen solid after running their route, most times even after the play breaks down. Will this be fixed?

-Weight, momentum and physics seem to mean absolutely NOTHING. There are certain animations where a guy is on his way to the ground, only to magically pop back up and truck someone for extra yards. Will this be fixed?

-There are still way too many missed blocks/people blocking the wrong guy in the run game. Will the run blocking AI/Logic be fixed?

-Will DBs and WRs warping forward a few yards to catch/intercept passes be fixed?

-Fields don't degrade enough, or at least some (like Heinz Field) should degrade a lot more than others. Will this be fixed? (It was patched before in the past).
Illustrator76 pretty much asked every question I'd like to have answered.

3 things:

Zone depth - mentioned repeatedly.

Defensive pursuit angles. Maybe this is intentional, but the CPU takes some bad angles.

How does the R-stick work for QB evade? I noticed that I only broke tackles using the R-stick WITH scramble mode activated, not when using it alone in the pocket. Am I using that right?

I'm having a blast this year!

1) Will the Penalties and OL play be fixed?
2) Are we going to get random highlights from other games with commentary during the Extra Point?
3) Can the Challenge system be patched to where we are able to make a choice as to what we are challenging?

Bonus Question* In Madden 11, will the ESPN license be used throughout the game? Or is it going to be a presentation of EA Sports...?

(I will reserve my other questions for the time being)

# 50 Stacks @ 09/02/09 02:35 PM
Will the CPU blitzing be toned down, especially blitzing both starting CB's? That is ridiculous and rarely happens in the NFL.

Also the flats issue needs to be fixed because it is way too easy to cheese the cpu.

Can you tone the SIM injuries in frachise mode down or give us a seperate slider for SIM injuries?

# 51 parrothead @ 09/02/09 02:37 PM
Why doesn't the 3-4 seem to work correctly? The OLB's get no pressure, when in real life they are the one's that are always going after the QB like crazy.

# 52 BroMontana82 @ 09/02/09 02:37 PM
1. If the tackle stats glitch (assists not being counted) was not fixed in patch 1, will it definitely be address in patch 2?

2. What are the plans to improve user controlled pass rush?

3. Have sim stats been addressed? - high passing yardage and TDs, low RB TDs, low sack numbers for OLBs

4. Has covering the flats been addressed?

# 53 Fu Man Ching @ 09/02/09 02:40 PM
Welcome back Ian. Hope you have your boots strapped on.

What is causing teams to put Kickers and Punters on the offensive line? It happens when there are injuries to the o line. The cpu seems to think the best solutions is to put the kickers and punters in.

By the way this is happening in offline franchise mode and happens more often in fantasy draft franchises.

Also. Why do the kickers and punters actually block pretty damn good. Just kind of funny seeing Haynesworth get man handeled by Gramatica. Just a little funny looking.

* is there anyway to get sliders available for unranked games online? (games vs friends)

* is there anyway to get sliders available for unranked co-op games online? (to help get realistic games vs the CPU)

* is the CPU AI being tweaked to not blitz all the time, play smarter, and safties taking better angles to cut down on all the big plays? also beef up the CPU rushing game (not the actual RB's) and beef up the human CPU pass rush?

thanks!

# 55 parrothead @ 09/02/09 02:44 PM
I feel like we're wasting your time, I'm sure some of these questions/issues are addressed in the first patch. Are we wasting space repeating things that have already been addressed?

Also, Is the deal with the Wr's releasing the same way every time confirmed for the 1st patch?

Oh, and Sim Stats.

Agreed. I would love answers to all of Illustrator76's questions, particularly regarding:

- CPU QB taking sacks
- Flat routes being too easy to complete
- The CPU blitzing too much and it's way too easy to beat them

One other thing I'd like to see:

Could the CPU defensive playcalling be improved? If I come out in five wide sets, more than half of the time the CPU is still in a 4-3. What sense does that make?

# 58 dave731 @ 09/02/09 02:48 PM
Is there any plan to revamp online co-op with rankings or camera angles?

While I know it may not be possible this year, what about integrating franchise mode and online co-op where I can invite a buddy to help me take on the Cowboys in a playoff game or evaluate Tim Tebow in a preseason game? As it stands, online co-op is just meaningless exhibition games...

Since this blog that is related to the patch not coming out until next week, does this mean that the patch won't be out for at least another week?

What is the normal approval time on patches or does it vary?

# 60 johnverse @ 09/02/09 02:53 PM
Why is it than when you are controlling a WR and you use the right analog stick to run routes, you don't cut correctly, oftentimes finding your player run a slow loop/circle and completely ruin the passing play?

are you aware of this issue?

do you have any insight why this does not appear to be a problem (to my knowledge) in the mini-games, but is a HUGE problem in 2 player co-op games online and offline and in practice mode?
