I posted this in it's own thread, but it seems like every post about Madden is getting locked and told to go to the impressions thread, even though this isn't an "impression," but whatever... so I'm pre-emptively reposting it here where it will undoubtedly be lost in the annals of a 150-page thread:

I just saw my first "Late Hit" penalty in a Madden game in, I don't know, it must be close to a decade? I remember the late hit from the old genesis days, being able to dive into a guy post play and by Madden '97, you'd get penalized for it (in Madden '96 it had a 1/5 chance of injuring the player... and was a good strategy ).

Unfortunately, the way that it came in for me was a little disapointing because it was either the most "ticky tack" late hit that's ever been called in the Super Bowl, or it was a real glitch. The scenario is this...

2nd and 12 on their own 5 yard line, the Cards do a pass to a mostly open Hightower in the flat, he scurries for about 6 yards but I manage to tackle him as he's sort of near out of bounds... he was not out of bounds although his foot was VERY close. The tackle looked 100% clean and the ref gave a 15-yard unnecessary roughness. Even if he WAS out of bounds it would have been a really ticky-tack penalty, but upon replay, he was totally in bounds with both feet, although one was *close.* If I had my cam I would have recorded it.

Anyway, I'm hoping this is a single, solitary glitch because that could be very annoying when you get called for late hits when you're actually tackling the guy in bounds or VERY CLOSE To the sideline/out of bounds.

Regardless, it's nice to see the return of the late hit penalty... an old favorite from the classic Madden days that has been gone for many years. Although, if this scenario is more common, then it may need some tweaking.

You should download the Cowboys / Giants demo, much better build @ the correct game speed

This is starting to annoy me now. Had Fitzgerald on a post, safeties were in a two deep. They fanned out leaving the middle of the field open. I throw the ball to the open area, Larry turns his back and starts reaching in the air for an over the should catch. FOR NO REASON!!!!!!

As long as it doesn't happen very often, I'd chalk it up to the refs blowing the call. Happens quite a bit in real life.

Yeah, I am debating what to do. I would prefer PS3 as I was planning on selling the 360 (on my 7th as they keep breaking), but at the end of the day I want the best Madden experience. Although the gameplay seemed to feel better on the PS3.

I hate to keep harping on the helmet reflections, but in the PS3 GS demo the Steeler's helmets appear to always have the same NFL logo reflection no matter where they are on the field. The reflections looked much more dynamic on the 360 demo. I'll wait and see what the regular demo looks like on PS3 before making a decision.

Ian, any idea if graphical differences such as helmet reflections exist between the two consoles? (I can't believe I just asked that, I always rolled my eyes when someone would ask about something like towels or cleats, lol).

I did it too. What you have to do is go to where all of your demos are located and select the exclusive demo. Dont try and play the demo from the recently played list.

I did the opposite, downloaded the GS demo and then tried to download the regular demo; when first trying to download it, it said play which was the GS demo that I already downloaded so I went back and chose to download it in a different section on the market place. Now i have 2 demos, one says madden 10 extended which is the GS demo and the other just says madden 10 demo.

As for where you find the GS demo, you need to enter the redeem code and it detects it, the GS demo will not show up in the market place. To enter the redeem code, push the launcher on your gamepad and move the blades to the left.

Just a quick comment or two:

I LOVE the new game speed. Flows like a real football game. Also, the gameplay is much improved over last year.

Ohh... hmm.. I really like the gamespeed of the demo I'm playing, the SB demo, that is. Plus, a 4minute game... doesn't really do it for me. I'll check it out but I hope it's the same speed as the SB demo (or even slower), because I love the speed of the SB demo.

It happens way too often (at least in the Gamestop demo). Also, it seems like half the time they attempt to catch it over the wrong shoulder. Something else didn't seem right about it, and now that it's been mentioned that guys don't jump like that when they make over the shoulder catches, it's painfully obvious that that's what was bugging me. It is a shame that for every step forward with the animations, we get another back. The shoestring tackle doesn't bother me so much, although some more broken tackles out of them would be nice.

Exactly! The camera closes in on the players before they even hit the ground and it looks totally unnatural. Wait until the play is finished and then have a close up.

I agree with this. I wonder if it will be better in the retail version.

I own both systems also; mostly use the ps3 with my media center via front projector but still buy the exslusives on the ps3. The 360 version is prob going to have better textures and reflections but i doubt you would notice unless they were side by side!

I play multi-platform games on my gaming pc @ 1080p; the same TV i play my 360 on. With that being said, I notice a huge difference on some games but some games I know are better but dont notice a big difference such as grid, I cant notice the difference because I am not looking at the side by side.

Now Fear 2 or the new Dirt 2; im sure it will be huge but your are safe with the ps3 version. Sucks you been through that many RROD though! I am on my second, its a elite model

im having a blast here on all pro..

I let the steelers come back and score with 15 seconds left in regulation. i thought I had the game won. I blitz with a CB who shouldve been in zone coverage and CPU exploited that.. we go to OT... in OT, they miss a 39 yard FG for the win. first play back i throw an INT to farrior. I force a punt... Two punts the cpu punted they went for the corners.. out at the 12 and out at the 13..

so we battle some more.. I start to make a run.. end of first OT.. Ball is still in my possession for the start of the second... I'm making a push and as I catch a short pass and as im falling out of bounds, CPU TROY wants to hit me, and does so. 15 yard penalty.. CPU gets called for holding too.. Ive never had so much fun with an nfl game since the xbox1/ps2 days.
http://tinypic.com/r/5yxfv8/3

During the course of the game:
-I had one user tipped pass with a cardinals Dlineman
-I had one user cb blitz hit the cpu qb by surprise, and another sack by the cpu.
-I saw two penalties.

and truly nothing lingering to make me really hate this game.. Color me impressed

The biggest thing I've noticed, with the passing game, is that the interceptions that I once called BS are gone. I can actually throw over the LBs to a WR, etc. The passing game makes sense to me.

I liked the demo. My ONLY gripes:

1. Injury cart comes out and drives THROUGH some players...
2. Graphics are fine but doesn't look HD IMO

Did Ian ever show up to answer any questions in the thread? I'm not about to sift through 100 pages...

IMO, GOOD JOB EA!!! With the addition of commentary and other assorted goodies, I'm quite sure I'll be enjoying professional football gaming this year.
