NCAA FOOTBALL 10 DEMO AVAILABLE TODAY

Fans Awaiting the Release of NCAA Football 10
Create Over 80,000 Custom Teams via TeamBuilder

June 18, 2009 –Electronic Arts is proud to announce that the demo of NCAA Football 10 is available today for Xbox 360 and PS3. Fans who download the free demo will experience all-new gameplay features including:
  • Defensive Keys—Prior to the snap during the pre-play, hold the left trigger while pressing the analog stick in the direction you think will stop the run. If you think the offense will pass the ball, press upward. Or, you can press the icon associated with a receiver (X, Y, A, B, LB, RB) to spotlight that individual. This will focus the defense on making sure that the chosen offensive player does not make a play.
  • Defensive Player Assist—By holding A (on 360) or X (on PS3) on defense your player will be put under CPU control so you have time to read a play and decide the best course of action.
  • Enhanced Defensive Lineman Moves—With new animations, take control of your defensive linemen using the right stick to fight pass blocks and put pressure on the quarterback.
  • Gameplanning—There are six defensive and five offensive individual game planning options, or you can globally set your offense and defense. Each option changes the way your team will perform. For example, be aggressive and try and strip the ball every time and you run the risk of getting more facemask penalties.
  • Player Lock—Player lock allows you to lock on to a specific player in order to control that position during the play. When you lock on you'll get a whole new camera angle that puts you closer to the action.
  • Set Up Plays—Set up plays allows you to run one play in order to set up another. When picking a play, you will notice that some plays have a chain link between them, which indicates that one play can set up the other. Every time you use one particular play throughout the game, you are setting up for the play that is chain linked to it. Once the play is 100% set up (as shown in your playbook), the defense is at its highest likelihood to fall for that play action.
  • 1000 new animations like throw out of a sack, new shotgun snaps/hand-offs, WR/DB interactions, tackles, double team run blocks, catches, broken tackles, and slipping in bad weather.

This is my first post here, so maybe my criticisms won't have much credibility, but I'm going to go for it. That's what the topic calls for, right? These are not in any particular order.

- In five games at various difficulties nobody on either side had over 20 yards rushing. These are passing teams and the quarter length prevents too much rushing, but the backs were getting stuffed like turkeys.

- I can't understand the crowd chanting at all. It basically drones over you and despite a decent surround sound setup I don't feel immersed whatsoever.

- Stepping up in the pocket caused bullets that were just a few feet off the ground. This issue needs no introduction. I had better success with both Bradford and Tebow by throwing off my back foot. Also on bullets, the receivers don't seem nearly as determined to make the catch as they are on lob passes.

- There were very few broken tackles so I just started using dime coverage every play. When the backs are getting nothing and the backup corners are wrapping guys up, who needs linebackers?

- Quarterbacks would either hit the turf in two seconds due to a missed block or have 6-10 seconds to throw. Nothing in between really. This one is really disappointing, but then again I was playing fairly conservative defense.

- Some weird stuff was going on with the pursuit angles. I'd almost call it a glitch because in one instance the corner was practically running away from my receiver in the flats.

On a positive note though I like the Erin Andrews stuff and Tebow's release looks perfect.

Ok...so I've been playing for about 2 hours now. All on All American.

So far here are my thoughts....

+ I love love LOVE the Gator playbook. Wow! Gator fans are gonna be happy because this thing is jam packed with new stuff. I also laughed out loud when I saw "QB Power Sweep" in there...how many teams in America use a freaking QB Power Sweep.

+ DB AI is light years ahead of NCAA 09. I saw some really kick butt animations all the way through and there was a very nice array of defensive movements and coverage.

- The ball moves way too fast. It's like a 140 mph fastball.

+ Impact players are definitely noticeable on the D line. I could get very little pressure as the Gator DT...then I switched to Carlos Dunlap (Gator DE #8) and I was blowing by the OT for OU. Also...when I played as OU, I could actually get through as DeMarcus Granger at DT...much more so than the Gator DT.

- However, Pass Rush is woefully weak. 9 times out of 10 Tebow or Bradford had over 6 seconds or more to find a receiver...way way too long.

+ The passing game is a thing of beauty. Overthrows, realistic looking dropped balls, DBs separating the receiver from the ball, the over the shoulder catches are a VERY welcome addition. There is a very nice "give and take" between the O and D winning the battle in the air. Nice balance both ways.

+ The CPU AI on All American seemed much improved over NCAA 09's brain dead AI. Both CPU OU and CPU UF moved the ball on me with a variety of plays. Tebow ran...Bradford passed...which is how it SHOULD be.

- Please get rid of the glitch where the CPU calls no huddle and runs to the line, while my Defense slowly walks back to the line....then the CPU QB snaps the ball before all of my Defense is back and I get an encroachment penalty. This should be fixed pronto.

Overall...IF..and after last year's slider fiasco, that is still a big if.....IF the sliders are TRULY made strong and effective...and we can generate a realistic pass rush...this game is money.

The demo is fun as hell and there are obvious improvements all the way around.

Get the damn pass rush fixed, put in some working sliders...and we have ourselves one hell of a College Football Title.

I'm much happier today than I was last night.

Not really impressed with the demo. I still feel that this game is stiff. I did'nt like the running animations and the graphics were not that great. That's just my opinion.

I have asked this twice now but got some conflicting answers. Does anyone know if the universal game speed was reduced 5-10% like Madden 10?

Thanks!

After playing MLB 09 The Show, then looking at these graphics I'm sorry I'm jaded. As far as gameplay I guess it's better, but I'll probably give the PS2 version a spin before making a final choice which one to get. But, right now I'm leaning towards the PS2 version more bang for the buck.

yo what up people? i love the game it is very fun and intense. i was really crackin people left an right. but there was way too many injuries from lil sisse hits. i only thing that i did not like about da game was, 1. when u are tryin to defend a long or pretty long pass the cam is not close enough the the ball. i could not tell where the ball was or were my defender was and or on offence. 2.when i am on the lock down mode the cam should be closer, lot closer. cuz that is the only guy that u can use so when im on the d-line an i spin off a guy i want 2 feel that spin not just lookin at it from a distance. i wanna be able to see the ball zoom pass me when i jump for a deflection on the d_line or anywere on the field. 3. at the end of the game it was weak, there should be coach's runnin on the field shakin the other coach's hand.an the player's should have better clelabration's for the win and clebration's for the loss.EX. dumping the water thing on the coach at the end would be good. but they really have to change that cam veiw when the ball is in the air. cuz it is really hard 2 see if ur Db or Wr is close enough were the ball is gonna land. 4. the int's should be more intese just like those amazin catches that's in the game. 5.maybe the replay's should be work on cuz i was getin rob so bad. Ex.when i throw the ball to my WR and he get pop they call it a fumble, but he did not have complete control and they review and the play stand's. that was really make me mad.Or when the cpu throw the ball at the tip of side line sometime the player do not have complete control but has one foot down they say it is a complete pass.i even done it a couple time's to the cpu. 6. i dont know if it is just me but i chould not go though my play's quick enough without have a half or whole second delay, threw formation an all. So, that what i notice and it still needs lil touch up's on the things said and i'm pretty sure other people have notice this 2. but i'm bout 2 play some more cuz there was sum more things that that i saw and i can't remember right now so, i'll be back

I have a question maybe someone could help me with. After playing the demo I am not really digging the new camera, its kinda annoying. Other than that I like what I see so far. Does anyone know if in the retail version you have the option to go back to the clasic camera? Sorry I searched this thread but didnt see any real answer. Thanks in advance!

Adam I had the cpu on heisman kick a 53 yarder that was good. I kick two from 54. the CPU kick was with Florida...Mine was with Oklahoma.

For what it is worth...

Played three games (Heisman) and they've all been close! 21-14, 14-10, 14-7. I won on the last one 14-7. Much more difficult so that's a + but I'm sure once I get used to the new feel of the game I'll be able to beat Florida by 40 again (5 min qrts).

Basically my only complaint is that fact that you either get sacked half a second after the snap or you get 10 seconds to throw.

Setup play feature is okay.

I like the new animations.

I like not making a perfect throw all the time but it seems like the cpu still does.

The game isn't very smooth but it will probably be better in the final version.

I could add a lot more but I'm gonna go play it some more...

PS. I assume there are no team entrances in the final product either?

I find myself to be very disappointing because after playing the Fight Night demo the NCAA Football demo just seems out dated. Don’t get me wrong I love the game but it just seems like the same game from last year but with added animations. The demo looks sort of cartoonish even in 1080p HD madden 09 on 720p looks light years ahead of this game.

# 454 bluengold34_OS @ 06/18/09 11:03 PM
Well, big fan of the demo( All American). Like Auburn Alumin said, the biggest problem right now is pass rush( at least consistent ) It is better than last year, but still not where it should be.

The other issue I had was the fact in a 5 qtr timespan, there were 6 fumbles( 2 by me, 4 by cpu) and three int's ( 1 by me, 2 bt cpu)

I did have four user sacks in one game and two user tackles in the backfield, in the same game( once again Carlos Dunlap ) but that doesn't mean there was consistent pressure, and that was all brought on by me............not the cpu.

Passing on All American, was very easy for me, but I did enjoy the running game. I found if I was patient, I could see the holes open up, and choose my avenue of travel. I am hoping sliders can work this out, but I found it way to easy to read the defense and find the open holes in a zone defense.

I am in love with the lock on player cam, on defense, its a blast. I also like the rumble when there is pressure surrounding the QB. The new special teams cam is cool, but the result still feels like 09( need more time here though )

Overall, pretty solid attempt IMO, but thats just me. I think this game will be a blast on our OS dynasty, and I feel like NCAA 10 will have some serious 360 spin time.

something weird just happen,im playin the demo on the ps3 and im oklahoma, the first play im in a shotgun formation and the center hiked the ball over my head but the announcers called it a incomplete pass and the play was over.

# 456 Dingo72 @ 06/18/09 11:21 PM
How can they not have 2 player co op in the demo? How the hell are you supposed to get a feel for it when two of you always play on the same team together? Is there even 2 player co op or did they remove it again?

At this point, skipping it and waiting for Madden 10.

Just played 2 games. Love it so far. Animations are nice and the flow of the game feels good.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in here, but I noticed a small bug. I had 2nd down and pressed the button to snap the ball and the ball went flying over my quarterback's head about 20 feet and the play was blown dead. The announcer then said it was an incomplete pass and I proceeded to my 3rd down. Only happened once, but never saw this is NCAA 09.

that happened to me twice already and it's my first time playing it on ps3

After two games with the demo, it looks like I'll be a passaholic this year. It was just too easy on All-American. I had over 300 yards passing with Tebow.

I think the defense came out in man way too often. The corner route was money almost every time, OU couldn't do anything about it with their man defense. I ended up winning 31-14 my first game.

Then I switched it to Heisman and got a better game. I was still able to pass quite easily. I took a slant 60 yards with Riley Cooper, and still hit those corner routes. I was only able to win 14-7 though.

I did see that high snap glitch where the snap is called as an incomplete pass. I'm not too pleased with the camera, but whatever. The game also feels a little more arcadey to me. The tackling animations are a nice tough, although it did seem like all the defense players were doing semi-horse collar tackles 40% of the time.

# 460 koampapapa @ 06/18/09 11:23 PM
some glitches i observed through my gameplay:

  1. my ps3 has really never frozen before, unless i overheated it (not on purpose, obviously, and this was summer of 08). i have tried to play the demo 7 times, and all 7 times it has frozen at various points in the game.
  2. snap flew over Bradford's head and was ruled incomplete (this has been mentioned at TheMaddenLab so i assume it has been mentioned here)
  3. I threw an interception. There was a roughing the passer call called on my quarterback. Not only did I receive the ball back, I received it with better field position, and I was placed on the opposite hash mark from where I had been tackled; i was placed on the hash mark that the interception guy was tackled. i believe that this is not standard ncaa procedure; the INT still should've counted, am i wrong?
  4. passes that are released as i'm getting tackled fly backwards but count as incompletions.
  5. i have seen the same horse-collar-like tackle on nearly every play on most of my possessions.
  6. lol, this camera angle is absolutely atrocious, i expect it will be fixed?
