I beg to disagree on this point. I would not say this game plays great on the field if pressing the R2 to dive for a ball results in an errant throw to home plate almost every time instead of to the base I press after coming up with the ball.

Thanks Russell for the continued update. As im sure everyone else is, im hoping for some quick news and good news! I do know that IF you (SCEA) do another patch that you have to develop, test, QA it and send it to certification, so it wont be tomorrow or anything.

Any idea what issues you are looking into?

- DL glitch
- historical stat glitch
- franchise/RTTS crash
- no replay
- no flashback
- roster control
- line ups not sticking (can you get it to where with roster control OFF it will still read the rosters/lineups/rotations from the main menu)

Maybe you need to go buy a Dual Shock 3 and stay away from R2

I can't imagine its an easy place to be right now for SCEA. They have already started pre-production on '10 and have a patch thats done more harm than good.

Of course I'm only speculating, and ask that any responses to my thoughts be not over the top, but I would imagine they are having to determine the cost of fixing the patch would be. I mean, how long is the process from beginning of the patch process to the end? How much time, if any, does that cut into production for next years game?

I can't imagine its an easy place to be, nor an easy decision to make, if those ideas I presented are actually the case.

^^^They'll just have to cut some more sleep out is all, CB. There are 24 hours in a day, so if they aren't using it all for development they're simply slacking.

[waits quietly for Russell to flip out and Kolbe to hunt me down and try to kill me...lol.]

Sleep? Who needs sleep? I'm on the Albert Einstein sleep regimen. I sleep about 3-4 hours a night. I used to sleep more before this game, lol.

I thought somewhere in these threads Russell stated the first patch, the one we don't even know what it was for, cost thousands of dollars. Figure in development time taken away from '10, and I agree it's not gonna be an easy decision.

In some sense we are very lucky that the game is so good, even if we dont get a patch.

They are going to take a PR hit if they do not release new, working patch, and theres a cost to that too, but (and people arent going to like this) but SCEA has developed a very good reputation here, and they can most likely take the PR hit, without too much consequence.

Thank you for the above stated advice. In truth I had not thought of it this year. What you're saying makes sense since it would eliminate the errant throw problem. The thing is, it's kind of awkward since it means that you have to use the same finger (thumb) to both dive for the ball & throw the ball afterward.

I seem to remember trying this before I started using the R2 button in MLB 08 last year but I stopped doing so due to the above problem.

Also, I seem to remember & correct me if I am mistaken, that to dive for the ball using the right stick, you have to actually press the stick to face south. (down) This in itself is very unnatural since psychologically you think to press the R3 button (analog stick) either to the right or left. (depending on which way you plan to dive) This may sound like nitpicking but the problem is reactions are in the heat of the moment & one does not sit at the controls thinking what to press & how to press. It's almost an instinctual thing.

With all that said though, my biggest problem is the issue of using the same finger for both diving & then throwing.

Thank you though & I really do appreciate the advice.

Does diving to the left or right with the Right stick even work? This is how it worked in MVP 05 and I loved it, but I haven't been able to get it to work in The Show. Are you sure this works?

Maybe I have the wrong setting or something....

Thank you for responding. I happen to have 2 dual shock 3 controllers though I am not exactly sure why you suggested me purchasing a dual shock 3 to solve this problem. Can you please elaborate? Thanks.

As far as my stopping to use the R2, please refer to my last post (#806) where I explain why using the R3 instead is not (for me) a very good solution.

so i don't feel like going through all the posts but from what i have read it seems the patch actually hurt the game more than helped. If so is there going to be a second patch to fix the problems with the first patch?

Actually, this was the second patch. There already was a first patch, so any future patch would actually be a third patch designed to fix the second patch, which does not relate to the actual first patch that commonly gets confused with the second patch which is thought of as the first patch.

Got it?

You have the dreaded franchise freeze. Check out this thread

http://www.operationsports.com/forum...anchise+freeze

Basically, your best option is probably to delete the patch, if you want to continue your franchise. There is a thread on the first page about deleting the patch if you want to check that out. SCEA is looking into the problem, but it will be a while I'm sure to get a fix, if they can fix it.

Your other option is to start a new franchise but there have been people that have the patch that are having issues with the replay show.
Thanks for the help!!

After reading this thread I'm glad I stuck with MVP on the PC. Not a gripe on anyone or anything. Just confirms I made the right decision.

LOL, I think you misunderstood me. I was saying that IF it would function in that way it would be better. As it stands, MLB 09 will only dive if you press the analog right stick (R3) south (down) which to me is "unnatural".

It sounds like you made the wrong decision three years in a row to me.

Ah. I see. So if I'm moving my infielder to the left and want to dive to the left, I push the right stick down and he will dive to the left?

That will feel a bit unnatural as I would assume that he would dive straight down. If that is how it works I guess the premise is that pushing it down will always make the player dive in the direction that he is running in (e.g. down, left, right) and pushing up will always make him jump. Am I getting close?
