Madden 2010 News Post

Check out the new Madden NFL 10 blog. This one features the importance of an early community day.

Quote:
"On April 10, we flew in 8 of the most hardcore Madden fans for a marathon testing day to get an extremely early look at our Alpha build and provide feedback based on where the game is thus far. You may ask, “What is new about this? Haven’t you had community events in the past?” Yes, we have done these before, but there are some key differences."

I think this is a great point Cap.

I believe it would be best to have as many of the same guys go back a second time. [if possible] To follow up on where they left off. Seems as though it would be less confusing for everyone, to stay with the same crew...on both sides.

I should mention that I liked the way the early Madden Community day was handled. No fuss...no real fanfare. Ie...EA not taking advantage of this meeting solely as a PR, hype opportunity. The Madden day seemed to be more about getting things right. Congrats guys.

1. The game is in alpha build

2. Since the problems were noted by the testers, they are going to be addressed (if they weren't going to be already since again, the game is in its alpha build).

So yeah... don't see what the problem is...

This was actually asked before, but when you replace a ton of logic and animations you have to re-tune it all from scratch. That was a big help of having all these great hardcore guys in...to pick it apart and see what still needed improvement.

It should be fairly evident that it's all new stuff when we're talking about thing like "pocket doesn't set up fast enough" - since Madden didn't ever really have a pocket.

You know new camera angles and a custom camera angle would be just the thing to show off and let us appreciate all these new details in the graphics. I'm sure the art director would appreciate us having the ability to change the camera angle during gameplay so we could really see all the hard work he has put in the game this year.

What good are all these details if the camera is zoomed to far out to see them?

Ian, when exactly does development stop? I am just wondering because if it stops in May, well it would be very hard to get the line right would it not? Do you guys know for sure that you will most likely have that all fixed to some degree?

As someone who has multiple hobbies, I find the attitude towards "tournament players" is the same no matter the hobby. The tournament player is all about winning and breaking he system in any way possible [sometimes even cheating] to get the win. Those who are not regular tournament goers then resent these people because they are ruining the spirit of the game.

In shooting competetions, a style known as "run n' gun" [like the football playbook] gets its name from those who use any type of aftermarket part to improve their equipment and rely on a stratagy of hitting the target as quickly as possibly with little care of aim. They find that the lower points the score by bearly hitting the targe outwighs the points gained form hiting the bullseye. Traditonalists feel you need to be a great shot first and speed second and preach "anyone can miss fast."

I also play Magic the gathering, a very complex trading card game geared toward 20 somethings and have actually won a couple big time events in my day. In this card game, the tounament players are known often as "net deckers" because in steado f comming up with their own ideas of decks and card combinations, they will just wait untill a pro ewvent finishes and copy one of their decks, off of the internet. Who needs skill when you let someone who does build a deck for you? Now they take these net decks and play local events with them and think they are great players because they have a lot of money for the cards and just copy those who are good at tournaments.

Is this sounding at all familer? this is the nature of competition. NASCAR has drivers all the time geting in trouble for breaking the rules on how the adjust their cars, the Pats got in trouble for video tapping, the Cowboy's Jimmy Johnson admits going through the 49ers, Giants and other teams trash durring the regular season for game plan information to help them win latter in the year and the post season.

I am not condoning any of this action, but I find it funny the similarities and how many people that complain about Madden and tournament players talk in a since that if X or y get taken away, then the cheese will end. Honestly they will always find something becasue this is still a computer program and there will always be flaws. i just hope that we will get the most flaw-free and true sim football game ever. this is also why I could care less about tournaments any more. i like the spirit of the games and are there to have fun.

So the feedback was essentially related to 09 rather than this version. I can understand the work required i just seemed to have misunderstood, if it was done before the playing began then it makes things better.

MRxAmazing,

There was eye black in the Big Ben pic.

# 149 Exonerated @ 04/13/09 10:09 PM
Eye black is already in the game. Ben Roethlisberger had it in the 1st screenshot.

But that doesn't confirm if we can put them on CAP's. There has always been eye black on current players.

What we DON'T have [or aren't aware of]:
-Eye black
-Neck pads
-More cleat styles and TC cleats.
-New mouthpieces
-New chinstraps
-Loose sleeves
-Half sleeves

Is there ANY chance we'll see some of this stuff in Madden 10? Stuff like eye black, TC cleats, and neckpads I can't believe aren't in as of now. I think that's crazy. Being a Giants fan, I KNOW where Tuck is at all times because I always see that neck roll.

I feel like I could be missing some stuff, so add to it if I did.
LT's Facemask...

Great Blog though these have me worried

Pretty easy to get outside......."Roll and Chuck" again
"disengaged moves" arn't working enough....still too much suction

I hope you guys hammered them on that and really drove the point home about how imperative it is that it gets fixed...If it isn't, the damm Cheesers will survive

Im really glad Ian is taking this approach this year in getting them in early, hopefully theres plenty enough time to kill off the remaining source of the Cheesers' power in the game

To clarify (since I'm not 100% sure what you mean) the feedback they gave in that mindmap was actually from their time with Madden NFL 10. I was giving the point that when you add new stuff, you can expect for it not to be tuned perfectly so their comments pertained to a lot of our new systems and animations.

Did anyone get to mess around with sliders and give feedback on the effectiveness of those???????????

Granted, but not really an excuse. I won't pretend to have your level of code knowledge, but when I find a problem that can't be fixed by modifying the code as-is, I trash the code and start from the ground up with an eye towards making sure the same mistakes don't happen again. That you failed in this is a bit worrying and that you wouldn't have caught it at all without input from the outside community is even more so. What's really, truly scary is that a rudimentary knowledge of how football plays are supposed to work should have caught the mistake and pointed you in the right direction.

Watch the video of Lombardi breaking down the power sweep, it shouldn't be hard to find since it's pretty famous. And in the future I would suggest employing testers who have more than a rudimentary knowledge of football theory. You guys are making a football game, c'mon now.

Ok understood, my initial point was just a little reserved. I know there is plenty of time to fix it and that it takes time to sort things i just found it a little odd the same points had come up again. But don't worry i'm keeping faith and sticking with this new team and hopefully all ends well.

But why does it need to be like that? I know you're the wrong person to ask this question to, but what happened to the old concept of having the option to add in face paint in edit mode?

Besides that, it's kind of hard to complain about anything else in the picture. And I do especially like the the neon gloves. I've been waiting for EA to add in secondary colored gloves for a long time. Plus, I appreciate the community day idea.
