How are the injuries now after patch #2?
Did they address them at all?

Allright I got in 2 games last night after downloading the 2nd patch and the newest roster set. All I can say is I am really surprised how well the game played!
I was playing it in front of 4 of my buddies and they really enjoyed the game also. (We were waiting for the UNC Mich St blowout to start!)
Anyway the animations are so much smoother now after the 2nd patch. My OFers dont slow down now when chasing a fly ball. My first basemen never once pulled his foot off 1st.
And it is alot harder to pitch now, I can not throw a perfect pitch everytime anymore! Also I was able to hit a few HRS with non HR hitters. I hit one with Hairston and one with Dickerson my first game with the Reds. I also hit one with Alex Gonzalez the 2nd game. I had been playing a season with the Reds prior to the patch and after 40 games none of these 3 guys had hit one HR.
Also the Reds uni's are now currect on the game, before they had a number on the front of their jerseys. In real life there is no # on the front of their jersey, these #'s are now gone.
I know if was only 2 games but again this game is much better after these 2 patches.

I am happy with the patch so far

+ AI hitters are taking pitches including two strikeouts looking.

+ AI pitchers are throwing balls. Pre-patch it seemed like they threw 95% strikes.

+ Outfielders seem to respond better. There is still a bit of slowdown, but that seems to be an animation glitch.

+ Pitching is more challenging and makes you judge breaks. I like that a lot.

- Online still seems to have too many dingers.

I think this game plays positively excellent on legend difficulty.

For me, I thought that my hitters were just overly weakened, so all i did was input the user all-star difficulty hitting settings, and left everything at default legend.

For my skill level, it works perfect. The CPu mixes its pitches, better, locates better, so that keeps me honest, but still rewards me for smart hitting, without the beer league softball effect of all star.

The only thing that I feel is out of wack for the user offensively is the difficulty in stealing bases. I basically have to anticipate breaking ball, to have a chance, and if I am wrong, hope for a bad throw, late call...or for the dang ump to make the right call when I am CLEARLY safe.

I've been following this thread since the patch came out, and still I can't decide if the game is worth buying or not.
I wonder what MS' thoughts are regarding the baseball delimma on their system? It's been sending customers over to the competition for about 2 years already!

Probably seems worse to you because you aren't being accurate with your pitching gestures (right stick motions). If you aren't accurate, then the AI will be much more likely to hack at your pitches because they interpret them as "bad" pitches. Try dropping down the Gesture slider and you should see a big difference, then turn it back up when you get better with the gestures.

Yeah exactly I am getting like 3 Ks looking a game now. I am nailing the gestures good now and I LOVE this game more.

Still not thrilled with the fielding. That hesitation between a batted ball and when you become aware of which fielder the cpu has given you is beyond aggravating.

Your argument on that point sucks.

On a related note. Is there a patch fix list somewhere?
Okay. First, I don't really care what the patch fix list says if it's telling me it fixed things wrong with the game that I can clearly see aren't fixed. Plus, if you read between the lines on that list, it didn't say "Fixed this, fixed that", it said things like "Greatly reduced the frequency of..." or "Tweaked..". In other words, "It might be better, but yeah, we don't know how to fix that with a patch. Sorry."

I am not the only one who still has problems with flyballs. The problem with impressions threads is that everyone runs out and plays the game for like 30 minutes and posts about it...and that makes up like 15 pages of posts. But you don't know a glitch is there until you see it. Nobody ever said the outfielders were dropping EVERY ball--my point is that it isn't any better. And besides, there are so many little things wrong with fielding that you couldn't even address it with a simple glitch fix anyway.

And a decent number of people here aren't even trying to field flyballs, they're simply letting the CPU do it because they know it will drop behind them if they touch the controller. That's not a fix; that's a work-around. Enjoy your game, but I'm out before this thing loses too much trade-in value.

Fielding is not great, but come on, anybody with a healthy knowledge of cause and effect can avoid dropping fly balls 99% percent of the time. Get used to the problem and adapt. I haven't dropped a single pop fly since the patch and I'm not the only one.

You cant keep saying "Oh, but it should work this way, i shouldn't have to do it like that" over and over again, complaining about it. Either stop playing or make the simple switch of preloading a throw when you make those catches.

Oh good. Hopefully that means you'll quit whining then.

The kid sucks. I've never had a problem with fly balls. One time before the patch, which was because I was still clueless as to how to play the game.

My problem with the fly balls isn't catching them. I catch 99% of them and the 1% I miss can usually be traced back to something I did. I just wish it would score the 1% as an error. The in game commentary usually gets it right but the box score rarely does.

I am guessing that since:

A) You didn't drop the ball

and

B) There is no human scorer to judge if a ball was grossly misplayed

It is probably hard for them to score it as an error.

Yeah I think so too but with the Announcers getting it right in their dialogue most of the time it seems like they would use the same logic for scoring. So the logic is in there somewhere it just isn't used the same in both places.

great point, I always pre load my throws and haven't seen any dropped balls at all. It is a easy fix to a perceived problem.

Despite the vibe we get here at OS, baseball gamers make up a pretty small piece of the video game industry. I doubt MS is too worried about it. If they are, they could always revive Inside Pitch.

Since the computer remains aggressive in stealing, I have been throwing to second a lot. A couple of times, I overthrew. I have not seen that before the patch. Which is cool.

A couple of pop flies have dropped right next to my player. Sometimes the fielders start moving towards the ball. Other times, they are just standing there. I don't know if that is a glitch or part of the fielder's range and response times.

Batting is about the same, but the amount of homeruns have gone down... which is good.

The game is definitely better, but not enough to keep me from saving up for a ps3. I never thought I would buy that system because I think it is overpriced. Now I need to buy it to play a decent game. I will continue to play the game until I get enough money. After that, I will trade this in for The Show. Don't worry about me. When that happens, I won't troll on the 2k9 boards.
Re: strikeouts. I just struck out 4 Astros in 6.2 innings with Pineiro (only 1 of those was the pitcher) and walked 2 while throwing 76 pitches, which was nice. I felt like I really 'earned' the Ks, too. It's so much more rewarding now post-patch. I struck out 6 with Carpenter in 8 IP in a game last night. You just gotta throw some purpose pitches out of the zone outside AND inside once in awhile.

All caps while using the word quere which is actually spelled queer in addition to shy and ********. WOW, I just don't understand so much of the anger that is posted on the internet these days. Brilliant.........

I agree. It is better, but the AI is still too aggressive most of the time. There are times when it seems realistic, but then there are times when almost every batter comes up and hacks at the first pitch, even when you throw perfect pitches with the Gesture slider turned all the way down.....so the AI agression is better than before the patch, but still not what it should be, and still not as good as it was in previous 2K games. Hopefully they can make it even better in roster updates.
