2. My biggest complaint.. there isnt much control when it comes to fielding.
what are people complaining for? your going to catch the anyway. its just that the animation kicks in. otherwise ur just going to stand there and catch the ball. i swear people complain for everything.

In testing this it seems the outfield is playing shallower for certain players
yeah the outfielders are still playing deep and this is my one pet peeve from 08. they should be moved foward a couple of steps. hopefully in '10???

While at its core, it does a fine job representing the sport of baseball, I just find the game lacking in many areas. I feel the graphics are good, but benefit substantially from the lighting. I feel the lighting sugarcoats the lackluster player models. I find fielding to be tremendously boring. I don't like guiding my player to the general area, then watching while the animation takes over. Once again, the game feels scripted. I feel like I have been doing the same thing over and over for years. One button to do everything. Swing, throw, etc. I feel like the game is playing me sometimes. I would be nice to have better control over the type of throws my fielder uses.

This lack of innovation has me sour on this game. I feel like its all been done before. I know this is not going to be a popular opinion, but I felt like I had to say how I feel, and that is disappointed.
this is so funny, cuz u just dont like the show. maybe u should try 2k?

i really dont understand the complaining this year about the fielding. they improved it tremendously from last year (going by the demo) and its much smoother.

Like fielding(since this is where it's most apparently animation driven)....you get to the spot...and then the animation takes over......but let's say there wasn't...you had total control...what are you going to do...****n away?....forcibly make an error? I just don't relate to guys who need total control over the entire segment, when the animation makes it look much better IMO.

i totally agree Knight. i have no problem with sports game being animation driven. we are seeing some beautiful games with.

as for the demo. its da ****! im loving it. now i dont know about all this talk about pitches being slower cuz im playing this and 08 and the pitches are much faster in 09. cant wait for march 3!

After playing the demo a few times:

- the game still lacks collision detection
- the game still needs more transitional animations. I was using Werth and tried to rob a HR. The replay screen came up and you can see Werth jump to try to get the ball but once he lands back on the ground, he’s in the “crouch” animation
- I’m still seeing an issue with the lack of urgency in certain situations. There are times when the ball should be released quickly to try to get the runner out, yet it’s treated like a routine grounder. I want to see the throwing meter from MVP Baseball. I want more control over the throwing.

On the positive side, no sports game out there has the amount of little things that the Show has. Most importantly, the game is fun to play. I can’t wait until this game is released. I wonder if they added in game saves to exhibition games this season?

The demo was pretty good but there were two problems I had if you want to call them that.

1. The game wasn't taking up the whole screen. I tried it in 720p and 1080p but there were still huge black bars around the screen.

2. Did it seem a little too dark to anybody else? I know it was supposed to simulating shadows in a stadium but I thought it seemed a little too dark. It was a little hard to pick up the ball because of this.

All in all a great demo though.

wow I just played another great game. I was the Phil's and Kazmir was no-hitting me through 5. I start out the bottom of the 5th with a strikeout looking with Howard. Perfectly placed fastball on inside corner. Then up comes Ibanez. I take a fastball on the outside corner to right-center gap for a stand up double. Up comes Feliz...I take advantage of a mistake by Kazmir on a fat fastball right down the middle. I unload for a double over Crawford's head. It hit the warning track and one hopped the wall. First time I have seen this type of hit in all my years of playing the show. That was the walk-off.

you know what? I'll accept it. Thats how it really is at times. Major League players will tell you that.

Most of us have been clamoring for realism for a few years now--so we have yet another aspect of that added to The Show '09

Did not seem dark to me at all ... I think it all has to do with individual display properties on each one's TV. Looked VERY natural to me. Felt like a real life game.

What black bars?

# 869 mgoblue678 @ 02/08/09 04:13 PM
The picture doesn't take up the whole screen. There is black on the outside instead.

# 870 Rod_Carew29 @ 02/08/09 04:17 PM
I only played two games with the demo. I never saw any black bars....maybe Enigma is right...maybe your set needs an adjustment?

^^^My set is perfectly fine. The picture doesn't take up the whole screen.

# 872 spitoon @ 02/08/09 04:27 PM
I agree that the picture is kind of dark in places...I know its shadows and such, but too dark in a few spots. I turned up my brightness on my set a few clicks.

I don't see the black bars either, must be an adjustment on your TV that's needed?

For me, this is shaping up to be a great game and I love the progress from year to year. They (SCEA) are never going to be able to satisfy everyone, but I think they have done a fantastic job this year.

I have 100% faith that the release game is 'tighter' than the demo.

Yeah, I've had the black bars the past few years as well. It's not your TV as mine was professionally calibrated and I have the same issues. It's just the way it is on some HDTV's. I've never been able to get a clear answer as to why.

The only way around it is to do what JT30 stated. It doesn't stretch out the picture un-naturally.

HOW DARE YOU INSULT ME WITH THE ACTUAL RULES!!!

Obviously just kidding and thank you for pulling that up as I did not realize/remember that being the rule. You would think playing baseball for a total of 20 years I would have known that, but maybe I am just getting to the point in my life where my mind is deciding that a good memory is overrated

lol at Matty V saying "its 64 degrees under mostly cloudy skies" when the sun is shining brightly.

Also, I love the crowd dynamic in this game. J-Rol was walked by Kazmir and now that he's on first, he's bothering Kazmir to the point that Kaz has tossed over 6 times in a row, and the crowd is booing him.

I know the latter was in last year as well, but it never hurts to mention all the atmosphere and little things this game does so well.
