NCAA Football 10 News Post

Our pre-release info plan is being put together. We are going to be taking the same approach as Madden by announcing something each week, as opposed to announcing everything all at once like on NCAA Football 09.

Officially it starts today and it is... drumroll... Procedural Awareness.

Most of you have probably read about it on the Madden Forum, but here is a link: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...-nfl-10-a.html

Ok, so nothing new and exciting yet. But I wanted to at least let you guys know that the news will start rolling in this month all the way up to a few weeks before the game hits shelves. So hang tight and check weekly.

For example, we shouldn't see players making 180 degree spins in the air to catch an INT.

Obviously the devs will need to change/remove/add animations to make this work properly and I have my doubts about how well this will be done. Still, this was a much needed change to gameplay that many of us asked for in the past.
i thought he said the what your saying is not the case. that even though there head is turned away they see them already. they are just making the heads turn so it looks realistic.

i see how this could affect ai but i dont see how with what we know. there was no mention of timing routes which would give the advantage to the wr on a break. maybe on every single break of every route is when the wr will look back but we dont know.

from what i got this is just something to make it look more realiistic not play more realistic. but if some game play features are added that this could co exist with then yea maybe and hopefully. but from what the dev said its just fluff at this poitn.

I'm not so sure about this. If it radically changed gameplay, I would think the posts about it would be stronger. There has to be a reason they haven't clearly defined what the feature does. Were it some major game changer I promise you there would not be this kind of ambiguity around it.

My prediction is that people will be disappointed a bit with the feature, but we will see.

yea i agree. he basically said they already see the ball when they are not looking. so all this really does is make it nicer to look at. if they try to tie this into the ai it could cause huge probs.

The following are all quotes from Ian Cummings, lead developer of Madden 10:

"Well now we can make a DB track the ball realistically and we’ll make sure that he has a true line of sight before he can make a play on the ball."

a true line of sight visually. that just means he will actually be looking at the ball, not playing the ball any different than they do. nothing about the ai will change with this, hes just saying it will look realistic. if every player has to be looking at the ball to know where it is it would be a complete cluster fxxk.

And don't get me wrong, I think it will be cool and will add significantly to the experience from an immersion perspective. I'm just skeptical about the extent to which people think it will alter the gameplay as we know it.

As I already said earlier....

"Obviously the devs will need to change/remove/add animations to make this work properly and I have my doubts about how well this will be done."

For example, it has already been confirmed that the spin catch has been removed.

Stop trying to combine procedural awareness with the AI changes needed to make it work. They are separate efforts that need to work together. The main reason us NCAA gamers should be concerned is that the NCAA dev cycle ends earlier than Madden's and we might not get a fully functional implementation.

NCAA seems so 2nd rate to madden this year. Maybe a little flip-flop please?

Only good thing is that they share the same gameplay team and engine.... and there's still Online Dynasty.

Still it's a joke how EA has bastardized NCAA while giving all attention to Madden. NCAA comes out over a month before Madden and yet their staff still can't talk about their game? Ridiculous.

I think it has to do with the fact that a lot more attention has been put into EA into Madden this year than previous ones.

Madden 09 was the first real game of Madden on next gen. Madden 06-08 were terrible from not only a playability perspective but also from a design point of view. I still can't believe they tried to justify the radio announcer as a cool presentation tool. Between 08 and 09 they had a new team do the development. Madden 10 should be the jump into what gamers expected - so that's probably why you'll hear more about it this year.

The NCAA series - except for the 07 game - were decent. Not perfect. But NCAA 08 and 09 were fun playable games. Thus, I would expect NCAA to improve incrementally vs revolutionary.

Not sure what we mean. We are keeping announcements parallel between both games. Did Madden announce a second thing this weekend? I might have missed it.

Yes,I think is was player ratings and putting in real players counter parts. This new thing with the ratings should be cool because now we would have to pick right down to a tee in the draft...

Whoops! I've been locked in a recording studio for two days so I haven't really had much time to check this stuff out.

Have you and Greg gotten the OK from marketing to release any info yet? That's been the reason we've heard for over a month now that we can't get details about the game.

Yes, we have a list of info we will release and dates when we can for each part. We are still working on this with marketing as it is just an early draft.

I did make the first "announcement," but it was just that NCAA also has the procedural awareness that Madden has. It looks like we are planning on releasing the next info next week, but I'm going to see if we can release something this week.

Stretching the ratings?

a question. will NCAA 2010 be on PS2.

# 99 JAYMO76 @ 02/10/09 09:58 PM
I agree with the comment about MADDEN being the priority over NCAA. MADDEN gets the lead and all the glory and NCAA plays the roll of the ugly step sister. I would take NCAA over MADDEN 10 out of 10 times! Let's get some NCAA announcements ASAP!
