They can be unhappy with what they see in videos of the game so far.

Let's not make this an issue of linguistics... we all know what is going on here. Some are just better at expressing their displeasure than others.

It is possible to be unimpressed from the videos of the game... which, BTW, is what we're discussing here...

Pared you do know that there is a "Call-Off" button in the game. Last year it was more gimmicky if anything. Maybe they've put more influence on the usage of the "Call-Off" button & in instances such as the-1 we saw, not using it causes confusion between the 2 outfielders. I've seen this plenty of times in real life.

It always entertains me when people take sides and fight the good fight for THEIR game. None of these companies is putting money into my pocket to support them so it's not worth fighting for one side or the other. We should all just be happy there is a choice (albeit a limited one requiring a change of console).

By responding to that guys post, you are actually doing the same thing that you DON'T want the guy you posted about to do...

Just ignore them...

That's another possibility as well. You may very well be right.

Unless there are collisions amongst the fielders though, wouldn't you say it's quite useless...? Why use it if someone is guaranteed to catch the ball one way or another?

Well, this video just sealed the deal for me.

I just put this game on my GameFly Q. It'll be a rental, no way I am paying $65 for this game again.

Why did Varitek go after a pop fly behind the plate like a Crab-Man? He never fully got out of his crouch, and just shuffled his way to the ball. What the hell was that?

The commentary is horrid. And one thing that really others me is that the fans are just as bad as last year. The fans don't react to anything the right way. Why did they erupt in applause when Ellsbury flew out to RF? Why did they cheer for 2 seconds and then stop after the Lugo HR? Visually, look at the fans behind the plate, that is a total joke. Why are there bleacher seats back there? And why are people sitting 3 feet apart? It looks terrible. Just...yuk!

What made me laugh was when Fuentes threw a pitch and the screen went black, the fans went silent, and all you saw was the ball and Varitek. Then they zoomed all the way in on the ball as it dashed to the plate. All with "cool" motion and blur effects combined with sound effects as Varitek swung and missed. Seriously, what the HELL was that?! Is that 2K's idea of good presentation?

Instead of getting things fans want in the game, like maybe information on the freaking pitcher who was just brought into the game, that would be useful! Instead of him just appearing on the mound. Nah, "Hey, let's add this ultra-awesome sequence for strikeouts! With screen, sound, and motion effects! It'll be so awesome!" Please. Leave that arcade garbage to The Bigs.

The Redsox fans here will attest to the fact that the mannerisms for the pitchers and batters are spot on. The stances, pre-bat routines (as much as we could see as he vaulted through most of them) the strike out reactions, everything to me looked right on. Pedroia beating the throw on the grounder down third, and the way he turned back towards the ump to see if he got the call was perfect. Lugo does hit homeruns from time to time, and the ball he hit out in the 5th was right in his wheel house. No issue there. To the guys who keep saying that Pap coming out in the 8th with two outs to get a 4 out save or a hold is a glitch in the AI... Watch a Redsox game sometime. Whiny nitpickers.

Overall, this video got me more excited about next week than any so far. A close game, a gaff in the outfield with the two fielders looking at the ball and no one making the play, Ellsbury taking third with good baserunning, the umpire obviously giving the low strike throughout the game, a couple of nice pitch sequences by the Rockies, and the curveball was definitely fooling the big hitters for the Sox....

On the crowd noise/ambiance argument.... Although it is the same people who are the biggest chirpers about this, I saw plenty of crowd interaction and cheering and booing in the right spots during the video. I heard more noise on two strike counts, Manny's chant, J.D. Dreeeeeeew when he was at the plate, nice cheering for the strike outs of the Rockie players.... I am not sure what the chirpers are looking for other than a fight of something to complain about. I had the crowd cheering at the right spots, and I am sure some of the crowd interaction would be a bit more raucus if the scene were to have been able to play out a bit more. At least a replay or two of some of the infield outs that resulted in the third out anyway.... I saw some nice reaction when Drew crossed the plate with him slapping his hands together, the crowd reacted accrdingly with the DP the Sox turned in the ninth.... I am not sure what some of the whiners are looking for, but if this is a 90% build, I sure am excited for what the 100% finsihed product will offer next week.

We saw two HR from that bast**d Holliday, a shot off the Monster for a double, a grounder get beat out by Pedroia, some nice SS work by Lugo, a miscommunication in the outfield for two runs, a shot to almost tie it by Papi in the 9th with a great catch at the wall (no wall climb), and in all, a very entertaining close 1 run ball game. I think now with the release so close at hand, it is time for the little trolls to head back to Show land, and figure out how to stir the shizit pile someplace else. I love reading the posts by guys who have 6 under their belts, and a grasp of the English language that suggests that perhaps a bit more time working on those 8th grade studies and less time trolling gaming sites would be a fresh direction to work on. We know you like the Show, we know you played baseball all your life (yeah okay), and we know that anything 2k is not awesome. Thanks for your valuable insight, now head on back under the bridge and see if you can finally catch those pesky Billy Goats Gruff you have been chasing since Grimm wrote about you all those years ago. You are no longer welcome here.

SYF
Hmm I am confused. You talk about having grasp of the English language.... Do you mean "RED SOX" or as you spell it..."Redsox"?

People keep acting like this video was made from the finally build of the game and it wasnt.
This video is from a very early build of the game, alot of the things that upset you in this video will be fixed before the final build is done.

Wait.. so you know that for a fact?

brendanrfoley........Yeah, about the bullpen management...

I can say, with relative confidence, Francona would probably leave Okajima in to face Holiday in that situation. Tito has a slow hook and Okajima is a damn good reliever.

http://mlb.mlb.com/media/player/mp_t...e=v_free&_mp=1

even after Oki gave up that bomb to Holiday in last years WS game?...doubtful

paps gets the call in that situation

I don't know if this has been mentioned but if you download the higher quality video, those stutters and framerate problems aren't there... For those of you upset with the framerate...

Am i the only one who noticed the camera flashes through out the video???? Its as if the media in the stands are taking pictures pretty awsome if you ask me..

Why don't people read threads before posting? Just saying.

They have posted links in "better quality" if anyone wants to download them. I cant because I am at work, but I am assuming they are in HD.

You guys are kidding yourself if you think that was "miscommunication" amongst the fielders. The user, controlling the CF, wasn't in the right spot to catch the ball.

Now you can take this one of two ways:

1) The catch animations will have an issue in that they don't trigger when they're supposed to, causing you to drop the ball. Not good.

or

2) The game will penalize the user for not being in the right spot almost perfectly.

Take it as you will... but in no way was that a "miscue" by the outfielders.
Or you can take it that either there is a button to call the fielder off or plain that it is a preview copy of the game that might be bugged in that manner. If it's the later i would be sure that it would be fixed by release date. So many complaints from a video.

A few things...

Yes, we know for a fact this was a "preview" build of the game. This version is only 80-90% complete, and did not have a lot of the new audio (sounds, commentary, etc.) in place yet. Criticizing animations, glitches, etc this stage is silly. The game is UNFINISHED.

Secondly, just because Okajima gave up one homerun to Holliday last year doesn't mean there's no way he'd face him again. If I recall, Papelbon gave up a homer to ARod last year that cost the Sox the game.

Does that mean Paps never faces ARod again? Doubtful.

so why haven't we seen final build coverage yet?

the game is almost out, this never happens with sports games.

Actually, yes, he does because it's already known that it's a preview build that is not 100% complete.

Now, when it comes to fan/crowd reaction, that's a done deal. The game won't ship any better at this portion of the game. There is no 2k fan that could argue against this.

2k8 was about gameplay and mostly gameplay only. Presentation will probably come in 2k9. At least, one can only hope so.

As for people that continue to blindly state that wasted resources went to the cards feature, please stop talking about something you know nothing about. There are teams of people that work on different things. If 2k didn't work on baseball cards they would still have the same number of people working on gameplay.

In other words, baseball cards or not, the game would have shipped exactly as it's going to ship when it's released except now it has a baseball card feature.

Which would you rather have? A game with zero new features or a game with at least one? It's beyond logical here.
